THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
What does this show not have? It's already shown a good amount of action, comedy, drama, horror and mystery, set all in a supernatural/slice-of-life style. This episode was fully psychological, with a lot of talking, and the use of the Placebo-Effect. Pretty nice.

Watanuki has good taste. Red is a good color for fake glasses.

interesting but odd episode. I think that has to be the longest single conversation i've seen in a 24 minute episode.

That was a VERY deep.... slow.... insanely long metaphorical conversation..... xxxHolic really has no bad episodes.... but this one was slightly less interesting than most of them ~_~

I really like the psychological-ness of this episode. Also, Yuuka looks like that character from Read or Die with the glasses on.

Higurashi: Retroactively asserting why scary and cute sound so similar in Japanese.

Gtfo.

Good episode. You've got to love psychological stuff, and that combined with xxxHOLiC is just freaking win.

I really like that the glasses did "nothing." I guess that just goes to show you that not all issues in the anime require magic; many things are solvable with just some willpower.
I tell ya though, if I won 300 million yen, you better believe I'd collect it!!!

Woo! Outerholic! I was excited to see them anime the first chapter of Anotherholic. I wish they would have animated Underholic, though from what I have read about the episodes, they only animated the first chapter. I really enjoyed this episode though XD

That was a lot of talking... but make no mistake about it, this was definitely the deepest episode in the series for me so far. The makers sacrificed comedy and action for dialogue, and I must say, it worked out very well for me. I definitely enjoyed this episode much more than I did the others (which are filled with Watanuki mindlessly fantasizing about Himawari, or shouting at Doumeki for no reason).

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

To me, this episode is what xxxHolic is about. All the episodes about people's wishes, it all comes back to the one common talking point: insight into human nature.

When you strip away the spirits and slapstick and action, this episode is really like so many of the others. It's human feeling, human behavior. It might seem different, but it's really not. This is quintessential xxxHolic.

The conversation was very interesting! The ending was pretty emotional, I thought she would kill herself by walking in the middle of the road instead of waiting, but I was wrong. Perhaps the fashion glasses are magical?

Yuko would be the best friend to have ^^

Heh, that was funny. During the conversation I was like "What's with this long dialogue, am I watching Bakemonogatari or Katanagatari?" and what does Mishicorp's note tell me? Nishio Ishin wrote this story.

It's kinda creepy to recognize an author like this. >.>

All of that - very well said.

Despite the fact that, yes, most of the episode was "just talking", I thought it was really interesting - especially how there were no spirits behind the woman's problem or anything. A lot of times the people that come into Yuuko's shop, though, merely have some sort of problem within themselves anyway...

Really interesting episode. I like how they depicted the difference between psychology and merely blaming such ''supernatural'' forces at work. A little slower than usual, but they kept the pace pretty well. Looking forward to the next!

i agree with most of the above posters - very long convo between watanuki and yuuko - i do love the way she explains things to him but it went on too long for me..not a bad episode but certainly the worst so far...although it was nice that it wasn't a spirit causing the lady's problem it was her own mind...very much like the older twin in a previous episode.

Everyone seems really divided on this episode. Because this is intended to be a comedy is can understand why some people would find it boring. I for one found this episode to rather enjoyable. It was a refreshing change of pace. I know this won't be a popular opinion but I was happy that I didn't have to see Mokona once

Just what happened in my life. The feeling, of not wanting to take risks and responsibilities, which would give you real happiness, and going for second choice. Btw, the ED sounds so cool!

For the people complaining about how long the conversation was, it’s because this episode was made with the help of the Monogatari series writer

Easily my favorite episode so far. Mostly because I can relate so much to screwing yourself over so that you can't find happiness. I've been doing exactly that my entire life. Sometimes due to fear of failure, sometimes due to fear of success, and other times because I just couldn't handle the pressure. That makes this episode very dear to me. I had opened this thread expecting to see a lot of people saying the same thing as me but I guess it's just not that common based on the replies here.

Do it just because it can be done and there is nothing to lose . Another one parishes in front of him. She throws his flowers back at him. She is doing things that she is not supposed to do just because she is not supposed to. Finally, he screws it in. Can you imagine what it feels like to be someone who can’t accept happiness. The type of person who wouldn’t turn in a lottery ticket because they feel they don’t deserve the money. Come now, no need to be shy. She wants to overcome. She always has to do the right thing differently. Regardless of the cars, this is what you feel from the world. The vast majority of people call reality is really just a point of view they choose. Your happiness is your own business. It is a promise you make and keep to yourself and reward you give yourself. Achieving what you strive for. If you fail to reward yourself for what you accomplish, you are breaking the promise to yourself. Magic glasses. A perfect stranger. People are very fond of saying that things in life come out evenly. He is shocked. The more you achieve, the greater demands that will be placed on you in return. Anyone can be brought in by the allure of self-destruction. It’s a perfectly natural compulsion that one of us might experience. Very great or very small fortune is the mix of good and bad and our lives. She doesn’t want to fail. She just doesn’t want to pay the price for happiness. All of her decisions are somehow calculated, when she does the things that hurt her it is helping her in the short term. She has always known what was best for her. She was just avoiding it. Her payment was her freedom. She had the freedom to choose the wrong decision taken from her.
