We got more proper strategy gamepaly this episode with commentary, character reactions, and that meme bird aka Chonbo.
I don't care much about the game itself but it's so amusing seeing how these girls use their 'strategies' when playing against each other. It takes a light approach without much drama. I bet the VAs have a lot of fun with their characters in the show.
Well it seems everyone was pretty open to someone new joining into their gameplay.
It was also funny to see the bloopers of Nashiko when she was trying her to impress Riche.
I also liked the tea set Riche brought with her.
Was it just me or was the background music pretty loud in comparison to the voices of the characters?
Nice chill episode with Riche joining the girls as the 4th member of the game. It was hilarious seeing Nashiko trying to impress Riche during the game but ending up embarrassing herself
If they're not properly playing by the next episode, it's gotta be a drop. I don't hate it, but it's a bit bland and I'm not going to sit through another K-on... (´–﹏–`;)
It was more or less explained in the first episode. Chombo is the term for an ilegal action in riichi mahjong, like accidentally pushing the tiles in front of you (it was present in this episode when Nashiko attempted the tsubame gaeshi trick), declaring riichi without a ready hand, etc. When that happens the game is restarted after the guilty player pays x points to the rest.
And that's why the sparrow is offended to be named after that word.
Well I still don’t really understand the game, their hands are moving so fast and it looks like they’re all playing at the same time instead of taking turns, and it might also help if I knew what the symbols meant on the pieces lol, so I may have to look up how the game is played after all but I am definitely enjoying this just for the CGDCT aspect as well, the girls just goofing while playing is a lot of fun (including Nashiko’s “let it rip” lol), as well as when they’re playing seriously and have those dramatic expressions. And speaking of expressions, I was happy to see the art style change joke was probably just a first episode thing, I definitely enjoyed the funnies in this episode more overall.
And Riche is a nice new addition to the gang, although we haven’t had much of a chance to get to know the original three still lol. She’s very passionate about mahjong it seems based on her past, which was very cute, and it was kinda upsetting that Nashiko’s hesitation to let her play with them caused Riche to nearly cry, so I’m glad the fun that followed after more than made up for it. Perhaps eventually we might see things get more serious on the mahjong side of things, but I can also see this staying purely fun the whole time, and I’m fine with either outcome honestly, I only wish to understand the game lol.
Well that was the shortest dream ever
Hopefully no problem with the subtitles this time
Anyway the op like. i mean i dunno. its a really strange op i guess.
We still have one more girl who hasnt shown up yet
And after everything from ep 1 we have a lot to cover
Im so not used to maeda kaori voicing a normal girl
its kind of funny because from what i remember, japan actually has a lot of empty buildings in the not city area
maybe its just me but i totally forgor her name. they didnt mention it much in the first ep...i think
is it rishe or riche? still a curious name either way, but maybe its normal
is there actually a rule that says children cant go to mahjong? shrug
mahjong classes eh....
hmmm
like im sure there is theory to talk about
dang, rishe(?) got an insane hand there, tanyao (1pt), flush (6), presumably a self draw (1) and ryanpei (3) is ELEVEN han my gawd. and i guess pinfu too, so 12? not sure if there's a 13 point i missed which would make it a kazoe yakuman (afaik kazoe yakuman are rarer than getting daisangen, etc)
her other hand is fairly ordinary, though her discards are all ahue
anyway they have 4 players now, so the bird doesnt need to play. would be awkward honestly
im really curious though, if poeple actually have like mahjong groups where all four or five people play each other all the time
i suppose you could set it up online as well, though obviously online its not the same
the other question is just how much mahjong will there be. right now they're getting closer to 100% mahjong, but im assuming they'll relax at some point? or will it stay near 90% the whole time?
im really curious if we'll see some interesting stuff, but yeah, the mahjong is just an asset for the girls. i think
assuming this isnt just a mahjong advertisement in disguise
this time after talking with riche we're jumping straight into mahjong(?)
i'll be honest i really dont remember who voices izumi or riche.
technically player seating isnt a big deal, and strictly speaking the die rolling which they omitted for the wall is also more of like a whatever thing, but setup and rules is rules
its hilarious how the pai and izumi are like "this is fine" but riche is like omg
heck im watching them play and im nervous too
ok so the bird literally just tells nashiko the score? but she doesnt know? and the other girls presumably already know
anyway they mentioned it was a bit of time, and presumably if riche only shows up on the weekend thenn hmm
im hoping the other girl shows up in ep 3
i was thinking if she actually rigged the tiles, but isnt it automatic?
anyway the mahjong is mostly just an asset, because they're clearly not showing us most of the tiles, its just an asset for them to roll their comedy on
of course i say that and we immediately get to see some. kinda curious though. i've always wondered how they do the animating for it. i guess the tiles dont need to move most of the time so its just drawing a static
ok here is the explanation, one of it anyway. nashiko was tenpai but she had no yaku when she ron on riche's discard.
she didnt declare riichi so even though she was tenpai she has no score.
in a normal tournament she would be penalized, but well even in real life its quite uncommon...though for me personally it happens in chinese mahjong from time to time
i was thinking they were gonna talk about nashiko having beginners luck, but her hand she won just now was riichi only as well and statistically speaking not super lucky. maybe. sometimes mindgames work in reverse and you get wins on tiles that seem safe. also the girls arent pros, so winning by discard tends to be more common
(on tenhou, ippatsu rate is higher for beginner players than top players. riichi is 40%, ippatsu is 10% for lower and 5% for higher)
stock footage reused in the same ep. well its mahjong i guess and they want to conserve budget
i too have no idea what nashiko was trying to do. presumably the thing in her dream i guess but uhm.
i think in ep 1 she also fumbled her tiles? well beginner moment
its funny because i think saki also had a joke about the automatic table in ep 2 or so
as an aside, im curious how much the normal population knows how to play mahjong in japan.
like i know we have videos of the saki voice actors playing before, but hmm
omg riche doing the trope of the tea time. i mean really what
and not just tea time, tea too. hot water where
one cut later
its so funny seeing them have tea at a mahjong table
i remember playing mahjong and being like super tired, but what do i know. also they are clearly in a way more casual setup, and automatic table helps too
Feels like the whole episode went by in a flash. for better or worse
So. on one hand, i want the 5th girl to show up as soon as possible, preferable ep 3
On the other hand rules and scoring. shrug. i guess either way
EP 2 was basically the entire ep introducing riche and we had a LEETLE bit of mahjong really
Oh I completely forgor that both the OP and ED already played in EP 1, its fairly uncommon for that in anime nowadays.
Preview seems to show no sign of the 5th girl, so we probably have to wait until ep 4 or later. Seems like next ep is gonna be a cooking ep?
From the way EP 2 and the preview is laid out, I'm guessing that mahjong will only be about 10-45% of the anime, and the rest will be just the girls fooling around.
On screen we had two rons from nashiko today, the first one was just riichi, and the second one hand no yaku at all.
For better or worse the people who dont understand mahjong, on one hand there's not that much mahjong, on the other hand they also wont get much
Reminder: Riche is kondou yui, and Izumi is Wakayama Shion
Though the girls havent had much characterization yet since this ep was mostly riche introduction
The bird is actually voiced by otsuka akio, which uh...definitely does not sound like his usual role, even though the bird is kinda like an old man I guess maybe. Still I wonder since nashiko doesnt know how to score yet is that going to take until ep 3 or 4 or 5?
Actually I'm a bit late but, rewatching ep 1, izumi was the one who gave the name chonbo/chombo...but surely she must have known. I guess its a joke.
I'm still pretty optimistic about this anime, well they still have 10 more eps surely they'll pull off something?
Though the introduction might have put people a bit off since people who want mahjong wont stay for the cute girls, and people who want the cute girls might not like the mahjong
Cute episode again with Riche joining the group, good to have her. Her reactions were so adorable. Nice backstory too and small Riche's adorable. They were messing around more than playing mahjong but that was fun to watch.
It's been some years since I last played Mahjong so I almost totally forgotten about how the game works (Both physical and Mahjong Soul, it's been years since I touched them)
But one thing that surprised me is that damn, Haruba Negi really is the staff of this anime, maybe he's on a part-time job. And damn he really made all the girls to have bigger boobs if compared to the manga, especially Pai.
well this is more fun than i expected, that's for sure lol
- small Rishe kawaii
- must be fun when the adults play with kids and let them play with their own rules
- the way they were all crying at the start was also interesting...
- no one would believe the bird can talk or play huh haha
- i still have no idea how to play mahjong, but at least i understand now that they need those 3-3-2 or whatever combinations, and have to put the pieces they don't want in the middle ...
- now i imagine that seeing the "trash" pieces makes others know "oh maybe now i can't do that combination sicne that piece is gone"
- still funny to see them fooling around, like the chum-beam or when Nashiko tried to instantly win without looking at the pieces "back to reality" LOL
- anyway, after playing and drinking tea for a whole day, they are all best friends already
waiting to see what comes next, i can now see myself finishing this anime, while before it was on the list of "i like it a bit but i might drop after ep 2/3" since i'm watching 35+ seasonals and i don't think i'll finish them all lol
favorite "new girls" from summer <3 ... click sig for older seasons and more possible picks (rip all the other choices)
Riche is really looking forward to Nashiko's game parlor, because she literally forced her parents to bring her there to see the adults play and learn as well, so uch so that it became her most memorable place. And without knowing it, Nashiko had found her 4th player, but at the expense that she's still treating the game parlor like a hangout place. And as coincidence would have it, both Izumi and Pai let her into their group.
Having 4 actual people is better, but showing them how it's done with Chonbo is a good starting place...as an example. Aside from the real game rules, the girls do have their own rules outside of mahjong, they're just amateurs trying to understand how to play as well...along with humoring Riche. A tea-time session to end their day, and all's well that ends well.
Don’t know how Mahjong works still and I’m pretty sure I’ll get the gist of it by the end of the season but I’m just here to enjoy Cute Girls Doing Cute Things☺️
Riche gotta be the finest one next to Izumi she’s so majestic looking with her white hair and shit😮💨🔥
This one was pretty boring. And while part of that certainly goes to the Slice of Life scenes, I think the major problem was that I had no idea what's going on during the Mahjong games.
Therefor, I'll put this show On-Hold until I'm more familiar with the game. But the show is not captivating enough for me to go learn that game right away, so it might take some time.
Riche is the newest in the group and the most experienced at Mahjong as we learn from her backstory. Izumi and Pai welcomes her with open arms and Nashiko eventually agrees to let her join them. They start playing together and they have a fun time.
Riche also has this cool tea set in a briefcase. What do you call them? Travel tea sets? It doesn't matter but it's cool.
Solid episode, dat crybaby tho.. damn i prefer her when she was younger jk but not jk :x
Damn this is sooo underrated only the few chosen will understand it.
Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.
I think this animu is just for those who likes N curious about mahjong..
For me, whose already know most of the rule bcz some of my japanese game include mahjong as a mini-game..
If they focus more on mahjong than comedy / other lifes aspect / story, then I would skip this..
