It was pretty nice starting. The world seems pretty basic for fantasy world but interesting in the same time. Poor Marcille was traumatized at least 3 times but her reactions was hilarious. From the Op (or ending but I guess op) ı understand that we gonna have a lot more characters and different places so the story seems bot just to be save his sister

Trigger seems like its gonna do a great job with the series. Dungeon Meshi is one of my favorite manga. This first episode captures all the comfy vibes perfectly, the voice acting is great, and the animation makes the food look really yummy. I'm looking forward to watching this weekly as it airs!

Pretty much half of my D&D characters want to eat the monsters LOL This was absolutely fantastic. I also may be a tad partial about any anime that has Bump of Chicken music ;)

I'm glad to re-experience one of my favorite stories of all time! I forgot how chill and unassuming it starts out while also ingeniously laying out the world-building with food. After knowing everything it's so fun to see the little details that you easily miss at the start.

The only part that threw me off was Marcille's JP voice. She sounds way too young considering her age lol. Chilchuck sounds young too but I guess his race makes it ok.
Oh well these are just minor nitpicks. It's a solid adaptation so far.

Sidenote: The subs suck. It's 2024 and companies are still half-assing the subs smh.

It would be cool if there was a similar guide in DnD about eating monsters lol add more depth to encounters if you could just eat a Kobold.

Will it be a complete manga adaptation? Any info?
@Memore Nothing official that i am aware of. The manga has ~100 chapters, maybe half of the manga will be adapted. The manga was monthly so the chapters are longer than usual.

Without going into specifics we see characters in the opening that first appear in chapter 45 of the manga so we should atleast reach that far.

Came in blind and must say I enjoyed this quite a lot despite the weird ass premise.

As always I'm surprised about the discussions in MAL sometimes. What's with the weird Trigger hate? I know the average MAL'er anno 2023 has their pet loves and hatreds but I didn't know Trigger was one of them.

Loving the premise, the character designs, the vibe and most of all that stoic dwarf gourmet chef who carries around a wok on his back, like it's a shield! That kind of reminds me of the main character in A Will Eternal, who goes around with a shield too. I would totally join that party.

What a crazy amazing first episode this has been. Besides the art and animation being only a tad above average, it's been able to full encapsulate what it set out to do from start to finish.

Now this second part is my personal critique, I don't have anywhere to put this but my thoughts kinda run wild out of nowhere when I started watching this. And believe me, as much as comparison isn't my thing. I found out why I'm three episodes deep in another currently running Fantasy show but yet to find the ultimate reason to make it so above the niche. And I definitely found something.

That was pretty fun. Laios kind of a freak for eating weird monsters. Obviously this is gonna be lighthearted considering how laid back we are about the sister potentially being digested by a dragon.

Gotta love how while they're all taking their sweet time cooking and drying different dishes, dude's sister is getting digested alive

Trigger's back with their latest anime series since Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and we got bump of chicken too. Fun, likable characters, an interesting premise, and just an all-around comfy cozy vibe for 24 episodes... this is gonna be good.

Generic, uninspired, unimaginative--all words that could be used to describe the dogshit I just endured. Please do yourself a favor and watch literally any other fantasy anime. Though the concept is certainly appealing to a large audience, myself included, the utter lack of care put into any of the actual world building leaves this show feeling hollow. This is not to mention the characters, all of which have personalities which follow an incredibly generic pattern seen in many many many other fantasy animes. No matter how good the initial idea was, the poor execution has overshadowed all other positive aspects of this show. It is worth considering that this show may be targeted towards small children, and that is why it is written thus, but I have neither the time nor the patience to find out.

@Johnsmith892 This guy made an entirely new account just to call this show trash and give it a 1/10... after ONE episode. lol

Sorry for the show not being able to present the entirety of its world in 3 minutes, like most of the generic and I presume, your favorite anime.

I honestly completely disagree about the characters. Their design is some of the most unique I've seen in these types of anime.
The characters might even be this shows strongest point. The reason they feel "generic" to you is because the very theme of dungeon delving has been overused by pretty much every form of media for decades now and we've pretty much seen every party composition it can offer.

Absolutly fabuslous. Very unqiue and engaging. Uses well used tropes with a very novel focus which makes it both fresh and familar.

@breaker_not That's a fair point; I will watch the next two episodes and then write a new review.

As far as the characters go, I can hardly see how a tsundere elf, an oblivious protag, and a zany comic relief sidekick are adventurous in any sense of the word for the genre, though there is still time for their characters to be fleshed out.

Also, I lost my old account and me starting a new one is unrelated to my hatred of this show.

Moves more effectively than what I saw people say about this. The zoomed-in still of Marcille indeed has the inconsistent line art processing that looks similar to when it's "upscaled" but it isn't visible unless one is zooming every single frame and trying to find faults from it. Otherwise perfect in a lot of fronts and easily the best contender for AOTS.

Well... I am not gonna lie, but I was expecting more being a Trigger Production (though it is not an original trigger one); I mean, it is just a different type of K-On, but I guess I just need to adjust my mood to watch and like it. But I think something nice about this tv show: I liked the elf one works like a door to connect to us, being the thing that ties up the viewers with the series.

At first, I was a bit skeptical of how Laios acted when his sister literally got eaten. He was extremely calm and that kinda weirded me out because you think he would have a bigger reaction until they revealed that there's resurrection magic so it's all good?

After that the episode went pretty well. I like the addition of the Dwarf companion, Senshi. He just looks cool and I like his personality.

Overall, a pretty good episode.

Kinda lost on the worldbuilding which is pretty key with fantasy series-details are juuust sprinkled in enough to feel like they could matter, but also completely irrelevant to the plot or understanding of the world so far so they feel empty. Also the bit with their purpose being to save the sister was completely lost on me, is this supposed to be an adventure anime or a food anime? Willing to watch a bit more to see if this odd feeling goes away.

EDIT: forgot to say that this was "recommended" to me, I've read a fair amounf of dungeon manhwa so my impression is probably skewed

So cooking the monsters and whatever you can get your grubby hands on in the dungeon huh? The dwarf dude (is he a dwarf anyway?) joining them at the start seems so random but I guess he wants a taste of that Red Dragon too!

Had been looking forward to this one after I saw it on a trailer or something, but not really sure it was what I expected.
I get that its supposed to be a comedy, but I would have expected Laios to be in a bit more of a rush, maybe I'm just being a bit too nitpicky though since I do like the premise.
