Feels like Haruka has both good luck and bad luck in this show. There's not much thing about his character yet but he's given some rather interesting opportunities including this episode.

Storytelling wise, there's also a bit coming from Satsuki's side this episode too.

Belsorisso manager, back in his day, is quite hot.

Haru is trying to find someone to stop him from transferring. He doesn't want to be in a new team, but he can't find a good reason to reject the offer, that's why he want to meet Kouya and see if Kouya want him to stay at the old team.

Haruka not being able to find Kouya in his house, he's in fact away from home and God only knows where he is. But Belsorriso wanting him to be the No. 2 driver, it's not a bad offer, but with Toshiki promoted to No. 1, Haruka wanting to break out and progress into F3 and above, might as well give it a shot. With the recommendation from Ena, Haruka gets his specs down and tries his practice session in the car, taking cues from Toshiki. Alice coming to see Satsuki again, though he is pushing his rehab hard in order for his position to not be taken away from him.

Haruka being treated to dinner with Ena, the car is specifically tailored to him, as such with his days with his dad being in the same team until the crash. That is the same for Satsuki, who wanted to be James Hunt relying on luck, but became Niki Lauda instead due to bad luck. The thing is, Lauda quickly recovered back into F1 at the time due to his strength, and that was his mistake of getting overconfident. Things are looking good for Haruka, though he feels comfortable back in Komaki Motors even though everything about it looks slick, which leaves Kotarou jealous. The 2 Belsorriso drivers testing on Motegi, Haruka was following closely on Toshiki's tail, it angered him too much to realize that he's putting pressure on his teammate.

Kouya's escaped to Iwate...Haruka has a location to find him now.

Well ok, we knew this was going to happen right from the start - but so glad it was threaded the way it was, delicately and with actual support like he's been getting from the start. Kouta is f×××ing MVP there. 🫶🏻 And the way Haru gets a taste (pun not intended) of all the facets of being on a bigger team that "just has money", the way even Satsuki gets featured to explain that "balance beam" (and then bouncing things off to Alice who tells about Niki Lauda) that's also true in more ways then one, more ways than perhaps even he himself intends to mean it - once again, incredibly well done. Nicely framed, starting from Kouya's apartment and then ending there too, although I'm not sure why Haru's just... allowed to go there and rummage around. He seems to have gotten a legit surprisedpikachuface too which is cute. And the soundtrack's still perfect too, just there but really standing out when it has to without suppressing the scene. Another 5/5.

On a sidenote: keep in mind that GT and rally are completely different genres though, nothing really in common with Formula series beyond the four wheels.

Great episode. One thing I'm scared of is that the anime will not break through because it obviously targets a niche of racing fans. Racing is overall VERY popular in Japan so I'm not scared about it domestically, but I'm not sure just how well it will perform outside Japan, I haven't looked into the numbers yet. Anyways, as a racing fan, someone who likes to do some karting and soon-to-be simracer, I really love this show so far.

I can't even say I didn't see Belsorriso's invitation coming, I just honestly didn't think the series would go there with all the focus on Komaki Motors, even it it was clearly in the best interest of both Haruka and Belsorriso. Of course, it's still very much possible he won't go there after all, depending on what Kouya is cooking up right now (although it would certainly be an interesting turn to see Haruka in Belsorriso and Satsuki returning in Komaki).

Damn, emotional episode. Seeing Haru racing for Belsorisso just feels wrong. Feels like Kouya was the glue that held everyone together and without him there, it’s falling apart. I still think Haru will end up rejecting it and going back to Komaki. Satsuki will regain his spot at Belsorisso. But it’s nice to see Haru removing all doubt and handling the latest machinery very well. He’s got the talent to succeed anywhere.

And looks like we know where Kouya could be now.. next episode should be good. This show continues to be slept on.

While the invite to race for Belsorriso is flattering it does look strange to see Haruka racing for them. I do wonder if they end up offering him a spot does that mean Satsuki is permanently out? Because that would be a messed up move.

Anyways, I'm thinking that Haruka is looking for Kouya for advice and to probably clear up any misunderstandings.

I guess the photographer main char is visiting the area where he took the pic. (Possibly trying to talk/apologize to the parents of the girl?) I liked the dialogue with the other guy in the hospital and the girl - when he always compared himself to Hunt but noticed that in fact he is more like Lauda ... and that he still can win after getting out of the hospital.

Background story with Ena and Harus father also was nice.

Tbh I can't stand how tryhard Alice is in approaching Satsuki, girl can't read the air, she didn't realize that Satsuki NEEDS time alone and didn't realize that she's a small fish in a big pond though the reason why I'm saying this is primarily that I feel pity for Koutaro, sure, Koutaro might or might not have feelings for her, but if I was him, I'd be frustrated to see my childhood friend falling in love with a playboy that she only just know yesterday. Satsuki is after all, have the tendencies of becoming a James Hunt wannabe in the playboy sector. I'd ship Koutaro with Haruka and both can have the big G, they're an exception.

Now I'm done malding about the unnecessary teen drama.

I have to say, the racing part is pretty realistic, a lot of example IRL where the "1st Driver" broke down under pressure with the arrival of a new "2nd New Driver". To name a few Alain Prost vs Ayrton Senna, Fernando Alonso vs Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel vs Daniel Ricciardo and Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton vs George Russell and a lot others.

But yeah, solid episode but I wish they left out the teen love drama.

I knew Belsorisso was going to scoop up Haruka since its unlikely that Satsuki will be back now that Toshiki has been promoted to #1 Driver. Satsuki who's still in the hospital knows that he's being replaced which is why he's rushing to rehab from his injury, but he's just not there yet. It's not uncommon for drivers to jump ship to another racing team in order to move up in the world of motorsports.

I love the formula one references of James hunt and Nicky lauda

It’s good their keeping the theme of the anime about racing
And not so much focus on characters I mean there has to be a little focus specially on backround or past

But the main focus is racing here!

Funny though did the author who wrote this get his idea from
Current Japanese formula one driver YukI Tsunoda winning the Nippon formula series on 2018 before red Bull gave him a contract as a driver in their driving academy haha

I had a past argument with a few idiots who said the same thing about car culture being a niche market in anime…

I am not insulting you or any thing I know your into cars also

But people seem to not know their are car enthusiasts every where in the world…

And lot of them the majority of them are some what into gaming and anime

All my car enthusiast friends who I go to car meets and car shows and drift events where all watching this and MF ghost as we speak

Good luck with sim racing haha it’s not as easy as people think if you think your good theirs always a chance or some one in another country being better haha

Still on the side of the fandom that believes the anime is at it's best when it's not focused on Kou chan and the photography plot as the writing staff have made the drivers all have rather interesting and emotionally compelling situations that lead them to grow and develop through the course of the story that you just want to spend more time with them.

Love senpai Tokumaru learning from his experience with the previous second driver before Haru as well as from His personal experience following Harunaga as well as Ena's advice but also not changing so much that he reverted to his usual after Haru pressured him, also Haru getting a taste of the world beyond Komaki motors and how a larger team operates with teammates and the role he will have to learn, I'm glad the writing didn't make him totally against it. Think he will eventually go to Belsorisso but I think for this season he may try to get one more race with Komaki motors for a podium finish for Kou chan to take his picture along with Koutarou and Futoshi. Harunaga plot has been great and I like that it wasn't Haru or Tokumaru getting him to find himself but Arisu. Again, in my opinion, the writing has made the drivers all feel worthwhile to follow with deeply compelling and emotionally investable situations.

Probably the best episode thus far.

Looks like Kouya has gone to the place where it all started, the place where he took the picture of the girl. I wonder if Haruka will also go there to bring Kouya back.

This is where this show breaks from the typical sports anime. It is a much much deeper look into PTSD, loss and grief. sure a lot of anime feature these things, but this is sincerely one of the best presentation of the real psychology of trauma.
This show is far and beyond most shows currently showing, it is definitively a Seinen show and probably not very interesting for children.
Definitely not about racing as much as it is using racing as a scaffolding to talk about the issues it is focused on

Surprising to see Haruka racing for Belsorriso as the 2nd driver, but I don't think he's fit for that, all he needs is money at this point but hopefully he'll get back to it soon

@Hashiriya_weeb87 I'm answering late because I'm rarely on MAL forums, but yeah, maybe I should've been more precise. There are a lot of car enthusiasts of course, but not everyone is going to be interested in an open wheel series like Formula 4. A lot of them might be into NASCAR. Into Rally, and other types of motorsport, so maybe I should've said that it's a fragmented landscape rather than a niche. For example, I wouldn't be interested much in an anime about rally or drifting or oval racing because these are not types of motorsport I'm interested in. And I think it might be the same for people who are into these things.
And yeah, I started iRacing a few days ago. It's tough but I'm having a lot of fun in Formula Vee.
