One question for rent a gf fans, do you have no life of your own or are you that desperate for a girlfriend...? I dont see any reason to like this anime except a good bunch of harem girls. No character development of the mc, No proper romance at all. The story has not moved one bit, it's still where it started and it's been 3 seasons. I don't think the manga is any better, considering I've not heard anything positive about it. But still I'll try not to comment on something I've not read yet. The mc is an annoying pervert and yet all the girls are after him. Also how lame and cringe can it get? I had my expectations when I started this show but as it went on, they ruined everything. After the 1st season, it's literally unbearable.

Do you guys think this even deserves a rating of 7.03?
Also, will it get any better later on?

Usually, I think hate posts add nothing and are a waste to say because, obviously, there are people who enjoy it. But this is one of the few series where I totally agree. The manga is also actually worse than the anime. The only thing I was hoping for in this anime was for the mc to grow and improve so that by the end, it might feel like it was a redemption story. Nothing happens for like 80 chapters, and that was when I decided to stop reading and knew the anime would never get better either. I guess if you are just here for the waifus, it's fine, but expect only the worse from the mc.

Sir, that is no less than 4 questions. A 300% over the one question you stated.

I like to torture myself sometimes. As to "how," you shut your brain off. Else, you risk going on a blind rampage. I am not a fan, it is trash and I hate it but hate-watching is a vibe in and of itself. I have gotten through worse.

Also, I am secretly hoping this somehow goes the School Days route in the end.

Should be a lot higher than the current MAL rating .
My guy Kazuya's determination , resilience and tenacity for Chizuru is an example for those striving and yearning for a romantic relationship (I'm joking but it honestly is amusing to watch).

The answer is simple because people made this with hard work, And it has a surprisingly nice production.
Hate the story but not the production behind it.
No one watches this for Kazuya, We only care about the waifus and thats what sells this show. Regardless of what you say this anime got 3 seasons and a 4th and 5th definitely because its popular in Japan so its doing something right I guess?
Also the first season was the most enjoyable for me personally.

I watched the first season. It's pretty decent as far as generic harem anime goes. But yeah, most harem never advances the plot in any meaningful way so they feel like a waste of time to me. I gave it a 6/10 but a 7 is fair too.

S1 was kinda ok, not too much, I tried the manga and its even worse, in S3 they adapt the only decent progress that Kazuya and Chizuru have, since then is a nonsense, I read various chapters with the hope that the series advance to some point but its only the same again and again, Idk what is the author thinking, just extending the story for money or something, just a waste of fmc, Chizuru was kinda ok at the beginnig

Here's a life lesson for all of you. If you don't like it, STFU, no one cares about your opinion unless they specifically asked you, you have no right to bad mouth a series others enjoy, how would you feel if someone bad mouthed a series you enjoyed? I'm not saying all this because I loved the anime, I enjoyed it, but there are many others better than it. However, the fact that you still say that there is no character progression proves that you haven't watched it all, by season 3 there is a lot of character progression and deep scenes, the fact that people can be so single minded about a show they haven't watched in its completion is simply incomprehensible to me. All you do is base your opinion on that of other people's instead of having your own, and that in itself shows how lifeless one can be. You want to talk about people having no life for enjoying a show, how about you take a good look in the mirror and see who truly is the lifeless one, the one who simply is enjoying a show? Or the one who decided bitch about it online without a valid reason for hating on it other than that "other people said its bad." So how about you try watching it again and see what you think, if you enjoy it then you enjoy it, and if not, STFU, no one cares that you didn't like something because its a natural part of life and the differences in what we enjoy make us human. So have a good long think about what you have written and come to the realisation that either no one cares, or the hate is all for naught, because what the only opinion that matters in a situation like this is that of your own.

I agree with you but I feel like most of the hate Rent-A-Girlfriend gets is because of the manga, not the anime.

I’ll admit it, I kinda enjoyed season 1 and thought season 2 was alright (I won’t rate it on mal because I forgot too much of it for me to give it a fair rating) and im in the middle of watching season 3. There are some pretty cool parts of RAG (Like the music, art, voice acting, jokes and etc.) and some pretty ehh parts but overall, I didn’t hate it.

And as for the characters, the only one that i really didn’t like was the blonde one, I didn’t think season 1 Kazuya was as much of a pain in the ass as he is now (in manga terms).

But then there is the manga.

I do not want to read the manga at all.

Just watch degenerocity’s video which explains it pretty well.

There are many things wrong with the manga but I’ll list a few (as spoiler free as possible)

“The NTR pool chapter”

“The laundry chapter”

“The toothbrush chapter”
(FUCKING KILL ME THIS IS SO BAD)

“All the bs cucking scenes this schizophrenic man comes up with”

“Kazuya’s constant bitching around”

“Chizuru turning into an npc after around the end of season 3”
(In manga terms)

“The borderline porn that’s being drawn in recent chapters in kazuya’s cucking fantasy sequences”

The list goes oooooooooonn….

SO In conclusion…

RAG is alright… if you forget that the manga exists.

That's your own POV, boss man. Yes, Kazuya is annoying and can be stupid at times but when the time is right, he does around and I guess that's when that cringe behavior of his starts but the girls don't mind. Personally, I watch the show mainly cause of Mami, Sumi, Ruka and Chizuru but I also watch it to see how Kazuya improves and scales through whatever comes his way. If you hate the show cause of Kazuya and that's why you're speaking shit about it, I don't blame you but I also feel sorry for you cause the show has its own perks and good qualities. The manga is among the top 100 most popular mangas out there. I enjoyed all three seasons and I'm looking forward to more seasons of this great romcom show.

I’ll just make my (obnoxiously long) rant now so I can copy and paste it whenever this question gets asked for the 50 millionth time. (But TL;DR: It’s fun)

As far as writing quality goes, it really is just average. It obviously could be a lot better, but it’s not exactly doing anything wrong, either.

But the biggest strength of the series imo is the characters. So many stories like this will have entertaining female characters, but a bland as fuuuuuuck main male character. So when they’re interacting with the mc, their entertainment value becomes slightly less by proxy.

Kazuya, however, obviously has a whole lot of personality, and a fairly unique one within the genre at that. He’s a porn addicted simp who gets himself caught up in lies to cover up his incompetence with his love life. That right there appeals to my humor greatly. I’m a big fan of “second-hand embarrassment” comedies, such as Prison School and Watamote, and RaG very much excels in that area.

And he of course only gets better when he’s around the other characters. Between Kazuya, Chizuru, Ruka, Mami, and Mini, they’re all just able to bounce off of each other so well, and create a lot of highly entertaining drama and comedic moments in almost every episode. Which as far as I can tell, is exactly what this series set out to do in the first place.

Then there’s the pacing and progression… yeah as far as the anime is concerned, I really don’t see what’s so “objectively bad” about it. Progress is indeed being made, but it’s a slow-burn romance. If you want the story to wrap up within the first season, then this clearly just isn’t the show for you, that’s all. Not to say that there aren’t better slow-burn romance stories, but I also don’t think there’s anything bad about this one… again, as far as the anime goes.

I have heard some pretty bad things about the manga after the events of season 3. That the pacing slows down drastically, and that any character progression made gets thrown out the window for the sake of milking the series. Now, I haven’t read the manga, and considering what’s said about the anime, I’m not going to just automatically take people’s word for it. But at the same time, just looking at the amount of chapters there are currently, I’m inclined to believe that there’s at least some credibility to this. If that is the case, I’m hoping season 4 would greatly cut down and and condense the manga’s content, only adapting the actually important parts. But I guess we’ll see.

But besides that… yeah. I personally see this as a 6/10 anime. Good enough but not great. However, it does give me 10/10 enjoyment, and enjoyment is all I really care about. I’ve loved far worse shows, tbh.

I also think you probably wouldn’t have to ask this question if you had actually put in an effort to think about it and answer it yourself. To me, this topic just screams “blinded by bias.” Could be wrong though, but that’s just how I see it 🤷🏽‍♂️

This is just entertaining trash. Certainly not the best trashy anime or even harem i’ve seen (That goes to Love Flops), it’s certainly up there, entertainment wise.

To me the first two seasons I watched because sometimes you just want some garbage fast food in your viewing diet, ya know? If nothing else, the female leads had decent character depth. The MC is absolutely unbearable for sure though. I did not watch season 3 cause it looked like it was gonna get even more sketch so dropped it.

Also, will it get any better later on?

How do we watch it you ask?
With our eyes ofcourse.
And you just said that we watch it because we don't have a girlfriend. of course we don't.
why do you think people watch anime.
To fill the hole in our hearts.
And just to make it clear most of the people don't usually have a harem. I mean come on not everyone is a play boy. And that would start going into the gray zone.
Wouldn't it be more harmless to just watch something like this instead to actually trying to do it.
And just for your kind information not all of us watch an anime because we want that to happen to us.
Some of us just want to root for someone who's suffering in their life and watch them find happiness.

Imo it's a bad story but I usually watch all other seasons of any anime I have watched. Also I just do not hope for it to get better and watch it when I have nothing else to do.

So it's like I just watch it when I am completely over the other anime.

There often times are media that are intentionally bad but in an endearing way and that’s how I view both this and RAG

People actually WATCH this? I watch when I feel like torturing myself and hating myself then all hate is directed towards this show. It's simple like that

Anime fans are welcome to like whatever they want

I agree it’s not the best, but I won’t call people who enjoy it low-lives

If it isnt obvious already, most anime fans only care about how the moving pictures look, not the narrative. Just read the longest post in the thread. Anime good, manga bad despite the fact that the anime follows the manga one for one. We only care about the pretty colors.

I absolutely agree. I don't know how I got through the 1st season. 4 episodes in 2nd season, I completely dropped it. I couldn't put up with the MC anymore. I can say I tried.

Dont blame yourself. Many who have started the manga looked forward to the deconstruction of the horny harem protag, me included. But it just turned out to be a loser/criminal-gratifying """"story.""""

Even outside of anime, a whole lot of people love soap operas that have little to no development and lame storylines. This show is just a regular bad soap opera with signature anime tropes.
It has its audience, that will stick with it no matter how bad it gets, just like a soap opera.

I agree with you, as I also said that I had expectations from this anime and it was pretty good it in the starting. But season 2 is where it started going downhill for me. The stretch out of the show made it so much worse. And even tho I've not read the manga, ik these spoilers that you mentioned, they are horrible. These events in the manga made me so disgusted that I had to write this, as I don't usually write hate posts about an anime

And ykw from the spoilers I've came across to, the manga is wayy worse, it's utterly disgusting. There are a lot of good harem anime out there which dont get much attention, but here people are, defending this shit for which even mid is a respectable word

I watched most of it with a friend to laugh at how retarded it is, dropped the 3rd season because I couldn’t take it anymore. It’s just terrible, and the manga is 300 chapters in at this point with zero development from what I understand.
