| Simply beautiful. I thought when that guy confessed he was confessing to Shirase lol A long-awaited episode that goes deeper into the background between Gin and Shirase. Despite their awkward relationship, it seems that they have a lot in common. Or maybe it's because of how much they have in common (like generally being awkward lol) that they have an awkward relationship. Both of them are different from how energetic and lively Takako can be. Takako really wanted some of Gin's spirit to rub off on Shirase. In a way and definitely partly because of that, it did. Though partly it was also the fact that she never came back that made Shirase who she is today. It was a good thing that Takako often left them alone together. Even if they didn't interact normally that much, it gave them something of a connection point. It seems Gin is very much still haunted by what happened, especially as leader of the expedition she had to make the hard calls. I thought Takako's last words were going to be something for Shirase, but it seems it wasn't. Although I don't hate her or anything, I can't help but be somewhat critical of her as a mother. I don't hold the going to Antartica against her, but it feels like she didn't leave anything for Shirase, not even a final message. But I hope I'll be proven wrong by that post-credits scene. An email from Takako? Why has it only come now? Signals or stuff maybe? I teared up when Gin started crying on the deck after remembering Takako's last words. When they cut through the ice, it was a very great scene. It was so inspiring. As for the Second World War reference, Japan did lose the war. I guess it's normal for countries to put some filter on what happened in their history. Japan was one of the aggressors, so it does make sense that they'd be deprived of a lot of things by the countries that won. Although that was more than 70 years ago so I wonder if such an agreement about a place of scientific interest like Antarctica is still fair. But overall, the message was awesome. And regardless of the war, gotta give it to their national spirit of wanting to get through adversity and going all the way to their slice of Antarctica no matter how difficult it was. The actual icebreaking and the dialogue made it so impactful. To reach your goals, no matter the odds, through sheer strength and determination. Inspiring. It was so sweet of the girls to offer Shirase the chance to step foot on Antarctica first, but it was even sweeter when they decided to step foot there together. "In your face!" Quote of my day. It felt so so so satisfying to hear her say that. Everyone ridiculed, mocked, insulted her for it, but she kept on believing and moving forward, and finally she's here. When the entire ship's crew also shouted... no words. "In your face! In your face! In your face!" Awesome. Made me feel pumped and I was shouting along with them. |

| Fantastic episode again, such an interesting relationship between Shrase and the captain, and i can really understand why things might be awkward between seeing the great love they both had for Shirase's mom. Also really liked how they used the confession guy as a conduit to jump into the episode rather than just presenting the backstory, made things flow much more seamlessly. |

| Eh, why everyone is so skeptic about his love towards that woman?.. I mean, at least someone could just say something like "Well, probably she's into some very high standard men, but who knows, really.. Women can be into all kinds of men, you can at least try hanging out with her, and see, where this goes, really.." Or something like that.. Because yeah - people fall in love, or date, or marry all kinds of people, really.. This man really gets some harsh treatment.. That's not funny, really, as well.. That just looks very rigid from everyone's side, and that's all.. I mean, it's not their life, and it's not them, who will try to date some girl, will have fails or wins with girls, lol.. Well, that final message (if it was final message) of Shirase's mom to that woman.. Didn't sound too well.. I mean, wouldn't she try to contact, where, what, or something?.. Like, don't they have rocket signals as well, or some other means?.. Either way, sounded like if she gave up, and was just cherishing last moments of how beautiful things around are.. Not necessary, though, could have been something else.. But yeah, sounded not too great.. |

| I didn't like the first half of this episode. However, I find Gin and Shirase's relationship interesting. The whole "In your face" moment was too dramatic for me. I get that everyone made fun of her but this felt like a "and then everyone clapped" moment |
| Why does Japan even care about some frozen island so much? It's ice and snow and some penguins i guess, but does it really worth such efforts and expenses? People are ready to die and leave their families forever for some stupid chunk of ice with nothing on it? Is it for future, when all Earth except Antarctica will be destroyed? I always hated stupid anime parents like Takako who doesn't care about their kids, travels to God knows where and dies or gets lost, leaving kids devastated and traumatized. This annoying cockroach who had hots for Toudou really pissed me the fuck off. Who do he thinks he are? Also, i'm sure, she loves Takako. And did i understand this right: you can easily get shit-faced on such ship? In the middle of Antarctica? Most illogical. I most say i didn't expect to see this old style russian winter hat on Shirase. Is Takako alive? I don't know. And i can't say if i care anymore. This show bored me with it's long way to the point. I'm sure she is alive, though. |

| Everything about this anime is 10/10, but that part where they talked about how japan was 'bullied' after having lost the second world war was really distasteful. "Oh no, we killed a lot of innocents and wanted to kill more but we lost and now they're picking on us" like, what? |

| Some awkwardness this episode had, can't really blame anyone though as they both were victims of circumstances. Good to see the rest of crew did everything to break the ice between them, even if that innocent love was sacrificed in the course lol. >In your face. Damn, really those last few minutes were something. |

| Interesting, that finally we see a glimpse of that last comm with Takako, My prediction is that she might have forced herself to go to their observatory site to either watch the stars or fix some equipment... Hope, all of the expedition team will find closure and continue the dream. |

| Some great imagery with the messages they're trying to portray, making it through adversity despite the challenges they've had. Shirase managing to do the thing she set her mind on, she's finally made it to Antarctica! - "In your face!" I wonder if Gin and Takako were a thing, it certainly makes sense with this line about Gin wanting someone "who is like a cloud". Not to mention that Yumiko says Toshio had no chance which kinda makes sense then. - Not making it because Toshio is out of her league or anything. That line by Takako though ... "It's so very beautiful" :/ |

| Nine episodes into a anime about Antarctica and we only just made it to Antarctica LMAO. We got to see Shirase's mother and her as a young child which is cool. Puts a face to Shirase's mother and we also got to learn how she dies. I never expected this anime to be the emontional type, It didn't make me cry but I'm sure a few people cried to the scene because her last words were it's beautiful. It really shows how dangerous these places are and people die here all the time. Another thing, an anime mentioning Japan's WW2 Past?!??!?!?!? unseen dude, like my goodness but atleast the context was that they could only go to the worst part of antartica as the other countries didn't want to give them anything else. One last thing IN YOUR FACE!!!!! |
