Truly fantastic. We learnt more about Mahiru and why she tends to mask her true self. Amane is way too bold and I love it. He knows she needs someone to hold on to and he volunteered in order to be there for her. Simply magnificent.

Yet author couldn't restrain himself from spoiling story with melodrama. Amane's marvelous combination of insight and attentiveness to Mahiru's feelings with the inability to see her love for him becomes noncredible to the point of being repulsively ridiculous. It is sad that story suffers because of it was vivisected in order to comply with 12 episodes format and typical romcom cliches. Even if this means making smart MC to behave like an idiot.

Bit of drama this episode but still cute as hell.

At this rate I think they'll confess around episode 10. I hope they do get together before the end of the series. Like at least one episode of them being a couple and going on a date.
Well, this anime has all in different order. First they act like an old married couple, then have a lot of dates (they've already had several) and finally they may confess...

Man, what a gorgeous episode. The final cherry-blossom scene was like a transcendent arrival. It's like, we are in heaven now, and we know it. It felt so good to be dragged through all of that and lifted up in the end.

Y'all are crazy complaining about the quality of animation. It's well-balanced with the drama/story. The colors/layers/composition, it's good stuff.

Like when you get married by force and don't want kids but you still wanna fuck. I honestly don't understand Mahiru's mother.

And also... isn't having an heir the whole point of arranged marriages? Are the families okay with Mahiru's parents cutting ties with her?

It's nice to get more insight on why mahiru is the way she is, this did a good job of explaining why she felt like spoiling Amane in the first place. The friend group is the best also... really love how supportive they are to each other. Excited to see where we go from here.

The pacing of this episode is soo off… everytime they were expressing intimacy and the show just cuts to the next scene. However it’s great seeing a major progress for the two’s relationship, as Amane-kun finally realised it was the matter of Mahiru-San’s parents.

Man, this was so melodramatic. When writers pile up adversities like that, it's starting to look like a parody. Only a dead dog was missing. Distant parents, her feeling she's unwanted and trying to be perfect to them notice her would be fine but going as far as telling they don't need her and are going to cut ties after graduation is a long stretch. Considering her parents are most likely for a very well off families that made them merry to consolidate power, I highly doubt they would be fine sending her away. The point of an arranged marriage is an heir, not just the marriage itself. Her backstory is just a melodramatic mess that makes more roll my eyes more than pity the character because of how overblown it is.
She said that her parents are willing to divorce as soon as Mahiru comes of age, so it goes without saying that they themselves are probably not in good terms with their respective families, and have never been interested in consolidating their power. They just married because their parents wanted them to. Just because they expected them to give birth to a heir, it doesn't mean that Mahiru's parents were willing to do it, especially if they felt forced.
If the parents are really that unreasonable and unwavering, I don't think it's such a strange situation. The world is full of bad and irrational people, after all.

Mahiru's past broke my heart!! Her parents getting married even if they didn't want to was no excuse for neglecting their child!! She doesn't need them anyways, she has Amane, his parents Itsuki, Chitose, but more importantly Amane! Their relationship is coming together so naturally!! I'm so in love with this anime!🥰🥰

It was always going to be heartbreaking when we got to the episode with Mahiru's backstory. I'm so happy she has Amane (and his parents), and Itsuki and Chitose. She is not alone anymore! And although we haven't had an explicit confession, sharing these inimate details of Mahiru's upbringing are a bigger step than a first kiss... Progress.

Amane had to tell the wifey know that he is going to have a friend staying over..

Chitose and Itsuki really are 2 of the best mates they could ask for. Both of them are still perplexed as to how Amane and Mahiru aren't dating.

We all knew something was up with Mahiru's family, with her previously being envious in a way at Amane's family and how they get along so well. We now know why. She really had a sad backstory, with a horrible mother and father who didn't get together out of love who ended up having a daughter who was a "mistake". Mahiru was never shown love by her parents, neither of them want to look after her or care for her no matter what she did. Legit any family would love to have a daughter like Mahiru, who is almost perfect in everyway, she is smart, athletic, pretty, good at household chores like cooking and cleaning. But no matter what they wouldn't look at her. She was always alone.

But now its different, she has people who care about who she truly is and not her sort of angel act as school (not really an act I know that). She has Chitose (who is a really good friend for her), Itsuki, Amane's parents (especially the mother who loves her) and more importantly Amane, who has helped her in more ways than he could ever imagine.

These 2 like I always say. At this point how are they not dating, I mean anyone would mistake them as one if they saw them hand holding outside.

Mahiru used to never like spring because it brings back that feeling of loneliness, but now with Amane by her side "I think I'm starting to like cherry blossoms a bit." - Mahiru.

Sad backstory aside it was a wholesome episode!

No kidding... I actually used to like and enjoy this series' light novel when I first read it a couple of years ago and was pretty excited about the anime adaptation. However, now that I'm watching it, I feel like it's all so dumb. And it's been wildly overrated as well, with a score of almost 8 around here.

As for what is dumb, let's take for example the complete forcing of gender roles that the story pushes on the characters. Mahiru has to be this perfect girl, of always few words and great at taking care of the house and the husband/man. On the other hand, Amane is constantly spewing cringy bullshit about protecting and caring for her as if he is some sort of alpha male (as if it isn't the bare minimum). Then, the whole thing of "nobody recognizing him" and "becoming a cool guy" when he changes his hairstyle a little bit... lmao. Nobody turns super handsome by just putting on some hair spray, much less turn completely unrecognizable... If there was at least a 6mth/1yr time skip after he started going to gym, it might be more believable.

Then, let's take this episode: a bunch of talk about how Mahiru is not really perfect and how Amane sees the "true" her. Like, really? How is she not perfect? She's always talking to him politely (using Teineigo in Japanese), while he's always talking casually. She cooks every single fucking day for this guy, his family and his visiting friends. She consistently has the best grades without ever faltering. Despite all of that, they talk as if Amane, who lived in a literal mess before meeting her, is putting up with a lot of shit interacting with her "true" persona. Dude literally does the bare minimum, can't cook to save his own life, couldn't clean his own mess, and has grades which are nothing to speak of. And I won't even get myself started on the whole having to hide the relationship from the classmates because they'll get mad. I mean, "how can the angel be dating such an average guy? They clearly need to get expelled from school". Lmao, I keep imagining if schools in Japan are actually like this, where random classmates actually believe they get to decide who's allowed to date whom.

Mahiru's backstory is just one more of the dumb aspects of this show's storytelling. I highly doubt someone can be as talented and earnest as Mahiru while receiving nothing but scorn from their close family. Like seriously, she doesn't fail a single day. Probably studying, doing facial/body care, taking care of all the chores for multiple people, probably exercising to some extent (good at sports), all that keeping in mind that schools in Japan go until like 3 or 4 pm and still having time to get gaslit by her parents. Her depression phase was sitting at a swing for 30 minutes and healed the next day... Does she even sleep?

Oh dear, swamped with an eye rolling sad dramatic backstory in a single episode, yes, we already know Mahiru had stuff going on in her private life, but the least a competent writer could have done, was display this in small infrequent intervals throughout the seven episodes we've had so far, not just "here's my sad backstory, care to listen?" in one entire go. The build up to this was trash and barely existent.

Amane also acts like a dense motherfucker one scene, then straight to being an observant, shrewd person in the next scene. It's ridiculous.

They're also dragging out this whole "we're not dating" BS, it was cute and endearing at first, now it's just tiresome.

How are they not a couple already? This is dumb.
Many good stories start like this one, then the main duo begin a love relationship and the story continues as normal, here would be absolutely nothing wrong with them being a couple already everyone they know already see them as a couple, and if Mahiru asks for it they can be together "in secret" so no one else gets to know about it, simple as that, just sayin'

Question for LN readers : is the pace in the anime similar to the LN?

I really liked the episode and finally seeing Mahiru's backstory, but I don't know... the transition seemed weird for the scene where we see her mom (like if we suddenly opened a new LN volume or a new chapter in the book) and then suddenly everything seems to go very fast in terms of revelations about her past.
Maybe it's just a "me" problem, maybe I was just expecting them to reveal Mahiru's past at a slower pace.

In any case, really loved it, one of the best episodes in the series so far.
They look like they're on the verge on dating, although I'm sure there will be some twists and turns before we eventually get there.

Dang Mahiru's parent are so bruh. Good thing Mahiru was able to meet with Amane, it seemed she was mostly alone throughout most of her life and finally found someone who helped her with that.

Those two really need to start dating now lol, and Amane basically just gave a confession. They're even doing more hand-holding now—very lewd >///<

Never ending plan to watch list...

It was a great adaptation of the "Death of the Angel" arc imo.
Amane finally accepted internally that he likes her. "It would be weird if i didnt fall for her"

And for the LN:
We are going about on pace. We left out some chapters but those werent that intresting. The LN is the defininiton of slow burn romance.

In the LN, the backstory part was just like this. Out of the blue Mahiru gets a sms from her mom, etc etc, Amane over hears it, and things goes as in the anime. And it was in a new chapter yes.

And quite literally, this episode closed vol 2, and now with the next episode we will go onto vol 3.

There will be some twist and turns, but it will continue as a slow burn romance.

If you intrested in this spoiler i put down the mayor plot we have to get trough if we want to reach the confession until season final.

I guess then they might get together when

we have 2 books to adapt in the remaining episodes, they can do it if they shorten it down.

(until the confession, what is end of vol4)

we have 4more books, but thats Season 2 stuff.

As a light novel reader, i would say its a 7- or 8/10 adaptation. They cut a load of from Amane's inner thoughts in my opinion, we might get more of them later. But in reality
and if you only know the anime dialogue, it might seem that he is oblivious/clueless, what's isn't the reality.

I looked at her face, I looked at her body, I don't know how she looks like a child.
I would say she has curves and some volume at the right places, she definitly is not flat, at least on the LN illustrations, besides there being lots of adults that are more on the flat side.
And now replying to the dude above me, she definitly doesnt look like a child at all, more so when you see animated and how she behaves and expresses herself, there is maturity to her.
