A circus festival entertaining the people of Nagasaki all around, and there lies Hana trying to locate her friends of siblings Weasel and Badger, which Soji's warnings have not been taken seriously. Even though Kurima is adept in the ways of the Samurai, his drawings also shape and take ground from within. But Hana coming to both Kurima and Soji for help to find them, and Nio's kite battle is like the typical fanfare. The circus head Doan of the Doan Company coming back to retrieve his released "monster" Nio, and Usui doesn't entertain him kindly. Together with Usui's case, this makes it a startling fact that Doan kidnaps special children for his own entertainment, as such with Weasel and Badger.

The only way to save them is through the bitten gold coin provided by Nio for the twins to bite on, thereby signaling the Revengers to act upon the deed. This case is as pretty much considered Nio's since she was the instigator, and though anyone else would've done it, Nio would handle Doan herself while the rest acted as decoys. At least of the servants serving Doan, the woman being the caretaker is the good-hearted one to lead the kidnapped kids to safety. Nio being prepared to sacrfiice herself to Doan, and since he couldn't do it, she slit him to death as the final straw of his love declaration.

This is pretty much Nio's episode, and it's ominous at best. Living the life of a human being while a demon inside, the story of two halves making a right...?

  • It is said that children who were exposed to child abuse tend to abuse their children when they grow up. Nio may have such an unstable factor in him/her for now.
  • The swap killing by Kurima and Souji was tricky.
  • It seems the anime team has confidence in the scene that the monster was reflected in Nio's eye.

It's a big problem that no revenger members want to solve, which case to take or not, how do they draw the line, as of now they're just going with the flow because there's no problem yet. But the problem is coming, a big one...

I like the wrestling fight between two muscular guys though, it's my thing.

As soon as pedo clown got introduced I just wanted him to die a very painful death. To see NIO get that spooked when she saw him.. you know it was some fucked up shit he’s doing to those kids.

Wish we would’ve got more of an explanation as to what makes Nio a monster tho? Is she an hermaphrodite or something? Was that a bulge I saw?

About time doctor put those big ass muscles to use for once. Bro built like the hulk and been using a damn bow lmao.

Fun episode probably my fave so far. Screenplay by urobutcher, explains why it was higher quality.

So this Doan guy has been kidnapping strange kids and has recently abducted Badger and Weasel who were friends of Hana. Turns out Nio used to be a member of the Doan Company until Usui stepped in because he wanted Nio to be treated like a human being. Nio decides to help the kids by sneaking into the camp and giving them a gold coin. Little bite marks on the coin means green light for the Revengers on Doan except Nio wanted to handle Doan. In end Doan was killed and the Badger and Weasel were rescued while the other captured ones flee into the deepest part of the mountains.

I don't think Nio is ever going to experience what Love is.

I think there are implications that Nio is futanari.

So Nio is an intersex? I guess he is both a loli and a trap then.

Also so fucking glad the pedo clown was killed in the same ep as he was introduced

What a fabulous, broken character Nio is playing the imouto role to our Revenger troop …

E5 brought a lot more feeling to Revenger and Kanemoto-san’s great work in the Sailor Moon franchise is brought to bear in Nio.

This is a much underrated series, IMHO.

That fucking clown didn't had a slow and painful death, I don't liked it.

I think that was the implication, that Nio is intersex. The simultaneous exoticism and vilification (and connection to "freak shows") sadly has precedent.
I hope this job was cathartic, and helped Nio work through some trauma. I can't imagine it was just to get Soji paid.

I'm glad Usui wanted to give Nio a better life, though if he's aiming for "normal", maybe don't involve the kid in contract killing? Or was his conversation with the doc implying that if Nio weren't channeled in the Revenge jobs, they'd be violent in other ways?

This show has everything different types of characters , great setting and an interesting plotline but it feels like it's missing something to be a complete show . Maybe it's the execution?

I think monster for her lack of empathy.
Nio is basically a psycho sadist.

They topped Sojiro Seta from Ruroni Kenshin. That boy ain't right. And apparently Doan had a hand in it.

This episode was deeply unsettling in a great way. Urobuchi being the screenplay guy explains the different feel this episode had. More dark weirdness like this would suit the show well.

I think Nio had breasts, so I guess he/she is a hemaphrodite. Or something. This episode made it very clear Nio has a death wish. I wonder if this show will grant Nio's wish before it ends.

Alright so we got some Nio backstory in this episode?

I think this was a pretty cool episode overall, but I'm really curious to know what Nio is exactly. Like what? Duan called them a monster and demon (pretty harsh ;_;), but why? What the heck are they? lol

Also that whole exchange between Duan and Nio was so strange imo

Edit: oh and I'm happy those kids got a happy ending :) I was expecting way worse tbh, and I have a feeling we may see that snake woman again at some point but idk

That's just what I was wondering. This whole time I thought they were a girl, but this episode kinda throws that into question at least for me. The way some things were worded makes it seem like they may be both in some way? It is odd

Nio is intersex. And Nio probably doesn't care if people call them a boy or a girl.

It's a shame the latter part of this thread is so focused on Nio's gender (Though I agree with the majority here that Nio is probably intersex/futanari). You bring up a really intriguing point about "the monster was reflected in Nio's eye." I wish I noticed that my first time watching.

My favorite episode so far. I'm surprised a good Urobuchi work is flying under the radar. I mean, there are some not-that-great aspects with the production and it doesn't have many typical anime clichés/marketability, but the ideas presented here feel like classic Urobuchi, to me.
