I'm at episode 10 of the second season, but I'm still super curious. Why do this goddamn show have so much gross shit in it.

The child traumatization and dismemberment did not bother nearly me as much as the goddamn jokes about child nudity and sexuality. Why are we making jokes about a child's penis, ewwwww. I know Japan has different views when it comes to nudity- but come on!!!

The child rape scene was pretty unforgivable, but it seemed important to the story and to Yueko's character, so I could more easily justify it.

Even worse is the goddamn bodily fluids. Again, child dismemberment was pretty bad, but I have not personally experienced it - so it's easier to disassociate myself from it.

But goddamn it - blood, urine, feces, diarrhea, vomit, birthing juices, et cetera. It's goddamn disgusting ๐Ÿ˜ค. I get that it's likely meant to make the show more realistic. I mean lots of early civilizations had to suffer from bacteria and sickness from lack of clean water and lack of adequate sewage. But goddamn it, if this show had the ability to showcase scents, it would probably stink to high heaven for the sake of realism.

Did the mangaka have a bad experience hunting/camping, and had to let the audience suffer his same experiences!? Did he almost die from food poisoning? There's a reason most TV shows leave that stuff out, and DEFINITELY DON'T SHOW IT. In real life, even I make sure not to look at the dogs while they're taking a shit. When I had to spend a night in jail, I was polite enough to avert my eyes to the women using the toilet. The mangaka refuses to have that same courtesy...

Overall, Made in Abyss is very good. 9/10. But I wish they would stick to traumatizing the characters, rather than traumatizing the audience. (Unless you're traumatized by child dismemberment sorry).

I'm just gonna say, if that bothers you don't read the manga, the anime somewhat censored some scenes to make them at least adequate for TV Broadcast.
Obviously the broadcast was late at night.

Authors have the right to write what ever they want in Japan it's especially free to bublish fictional works "drawings" with those and way wore depictions. It's all because the author wishes to show that be it important or not but you can only blame the author for it if you don't like it. People have different "fetishes" that they wish to experience.

Sometimes I "challenge" my self to look at something really awful be it real or not. It's just pleasure from something that you aren't familiar or comfortable with.

Nobody is forcing you to watch what you don't want and others can accept what you don't like. It's fictional in the end of the day and it doesn't hurt anyone.

That's an important part of the story that gives it its uniqueness. And you are supposed to feel a bit disgusted by it, while also taking it in as a part of the story, because the entire story is supposed to be beautiful and disgusting at the same time.

Essentially, made in abyss doesn't hold back. Tis a story about a few kids basically travelling to hell. There's no reason to hold back on anything because it's a more realistic (ima say that loosely) depiction of that journey. It's messed up but you don't have to watch it if you're easily queasy. -_('.')_-

A. There actually is no nudity in it... so stop being over dramatic.
B. It is a really good show that is surrounding around the horrors of an unknown place, of course there is going to be a lot of gross shit and stuff... deal with it

idk, but i’d say stop watching if it makes you feel uncomfortable *in a bad way*. i don’t think anything is wrong with being weirded out by it, but just give up on continuing if its unbearable.

Anime otakus/children, it’s time to learn that it’s okay to question media as flawed. The author is clearly a weirdo who draws lolicon material, said material featuring bodily fluids, and other stuff. If you’re into that, it’s fine. But don’t be surprised that normal people find it and you weird when you are defending someone who draws depictions of naked children, not for the “horror” aspect, but because it’s his fetish.

1.You are wrong he doesn't make lolicon material we all clearly know that they are children and the audience is not supposed to be attracted to them or anything and neither has he hinted at that or depicted them in a sexual way
2.What do you mean by naked children I don't see any naked children that shit wouldn't even be on TV.They are kinda scantily clad but I don't think you are supposed to think much of it cuz also they don't have defined sexual features or seem to be depicted to have any sexual appeal. There is clearly something wrong with you if you seeing naked children.
3.How do you know that's his fetish, bold of you to assume

Made in abyss is supposed to be a beautiful and grotesque story at the same time, so it's ok to have all of that, it just adds to the brutal reality the author wants to convey, but about the ecchi scenes, none of them are really forced, all of them seem to be derived from needs, whether changing clothes because they are dirty or because of wounds, apart from the fact that even in nude scenes, none of them are thrown in your face or are extended unnecessarily, most of them are punctual, serving to create atmosphere to scenes, break expectations or just as a quick joke. Of course, miabyss makes it very clear from chapter 1 that it's going to be a story with lolicon content, the best example of this is the extra artwork in the volumes, most of them being clearly pure lolisho fanservice, and that's ok, if that bothers you ignore them or just watch the anime which already censors most of the nude scenes, but if that still bothers you...idk...cry about it i guess

Ok, I agree with 2 and 3, but 1...I have to ask, have you seen the bonus art for the volumes? It's pretty clear that most of them are lolisho fanservice lol, some having very clear sexual connotations, especially in the bonus art of volume 7, Vueko's dialogue about Reg and Riko is so explicit that it was not just censored but completely removed in the release of the vol in my country, leaving a completely black page in its place, something that didn't happen with any other art

I think it was made on purpose to be more unsettling that it already is, I mean… this story is literally about children doing stuff that usually children don’t do (go on an adventure in a highly dangerous territory, in where there are a lot of deadly predators and monsters). So yeah, it’s probably to underline this sense of fear and anxiety.

I dont like those pedo things as well, but made in abyss is my n°1 anime of all time.

Those +18 things are bad when it comes out of context (like nude riko or penis stuff. Thats more explicit in the manga) but when its well done, like for vueko's story, it is relevant.

About those fluids and gross stuff, Wer talking about The netherealms. The abyss is hell itself. The hole point of the manga/anime is The contrast among cute inocent children X The reality. Thats super important for the lore and its what made The show unique and so great.

Watching made in abyss is Hard and disgusting, but it was ment to be this way. Like riko's party, wer diving deep into The abyss, and this Journey will become even worse, as for the characters and for ourselves. You need to have guts to face the abyss and watch the answers it keeps in it. Thats the price

In the manga he had art that shows underage characters naked, just because.

Important or not to the story, it’s still unsettling D:, I guess making people wish there wasn’t such..child torture etc was the purpose of the author.
Not going to argue if it is relevant or not. It’s not like the author will magically stop writing such scenes because some random people on the internet say it’s disgusting.

bro wtf you saying you are the weirdo cuz you say that they are sexual. I didn't get even a minimal sexual harrested I never looked this show that way. Also I like loli girls like Megumin and Oshino Shinobu but that makes it funnier that even I don't feel anything sexual about made in abyss. It feels like seeing titans eating people in aot to see characters suffering in made in abyss.

because the mangaka is a man with experience to do those things who made us put our eyes on his works, or perhaps him in the begining Made In The Abyss went to be an hentai series but he changed a little bit for being the manga who is right now, I think so.

goddamn jokes about child nudity and sexuality

Children talk about sex a ton. They see it on their television sets, they hear adults discuss in in hushed whispers, they "know" about it as they undergo puberty. It's not unusual for children at Riko's and Reg to be precocious and talk about sex a great deal. That, and there is a ton more shit and blood in the real world than the sanitized depictions of violence and sex we see on our screens.

We for one don't see a scene in any of the adaptations for All Quiet on the Western Front of soldiers being shot while defecating, but this was a very real practice done in order to inflict causalities and lower enemy morale. Going back to Made in Abyss, this is not a lighthearted anime, this is an anime with light hearted moments.

To your credit, the anime tones down the source material by a large amount. I understand questioning why it needs be so gratuitous at times, because holy crap, is the original source...more akin to the manga of Shin Sekai Yori.
