This was fun and refreshing to see an adventure outdoors on the lake. I love the beautiful natural scenery of this episode of not just the mountains but also the waters. The bubbles added extra enjoyment to the scenes imo.

They came prepared with some lunched bentos too! What a perfect way to enjoy life. Second half of this episode has that Christmas theme atmosphere, which I find relaxing to watch.

That Christmas part was nice. The girls had so much fun together.

That bubble gun and the lunch box were cute.

Aww, Santa Aoi.

And Kokona. So adorable. ^^

That is, one really turism heavy spirited youth, isn't it, lol. Even the free spirited senpai girl from the shop is into hiking, who would have thought ... and, also canoeing, as it would seem. A nice day full of adventuring.

Tho the shop girl got dumped a day prior, everything makes sense now, lmao. Also, the brother blasting eurobeat in the car, best thing ever xD

Poor Aoi having to help out and stand in the cold, but the christmas party was very fun

Wow, I always forget how amazing this show looks, even though I use it as my desktop background. All those autumn colors truly are amazing. Really cool to see Hikari and Aoi hang out together, enjoying their time. That means that Aoi has grown to the part where she can enjoy her time with someone she doesn't know as well, even though she initially wanted to invite Hinata as well. Hikari being heatrbroken is not something I had guessed from what I knew from the manga. I guess that's the first time something like this has ever come up in the story?

The second part was also really enjoyable. We've now left autumn behind and winter has begun, including the first snow. Having to work on Christmas really sucks, but then again, their Christmas is a bit different from where I'm from, so I guess that's just a culture thing. Everyone getting together is really cool, including not only Honoka but Koharu and Yuuka as well. It'll be interesting to see how much time they will actually spend in the winter before getting to the following spring. There is a lot to adapt, but it's also not that much about mountains.

Speaking of adaptions, this episode again moved some chapters around. The first half adapted a chapter from volume 12, which is originally set the following spring. They essentially just left out the sakura trees Aoi and Hikari see on their way and painted all trees in autumn colors. Gonna be interesting to see how many other chapters get moved around. The second half - expectedly - is actually set in winter. It is adapted from volume 9. A lot of stuff before has been skipped so far, but that is not only an ongoing trend with Next Summit, but since the beginning of Season 2 in general.

Hikari is here and it seems another one of her romances failed, well at least she had a fun date with Aoi.
As for the party it looks like the girls had a lot of fun, Aoi had to endure the cold a but tho but al her friends where waiting which was nice.

The co-worker is good, her time with Aoi was nice with the small boat ride, sad for her that she got dumped, alcohol isn't the solution (xD). Also Christmas time! Poor Aoi with work and coldness but it ended up well, happy birthday Hinata, I guess

Good ep contents-wise, but did their half their animators die from hunger in the middle of making the first half or something? One second it's looking fine, the other everyone has no face or looks literally sketchy.

So does this anime get a GL or yuri tag now?

Hikari has a very flirtatious relationship with Aoi and is somewhat reckless, joking about Aoi's underwear when they are at work, bringing alcohol on their picnic and then chugging 2 cans as fast as she can! Ironically, Aoi is the one who is more mature in these interactions.

There is not a lot of room for interpretation in this "date" story. There is that line from Hikari where she says she got dumped yesterday. So is this a rebound crush? Is Aoi some sort of consolation date? Hikari made it very clear this was a date with Aoi, just the two of them. It is suggested that Hikari confessed to Aoi, and Aoi rejected her. It just happened off screen. It really is an amazing sequence because it leaves it to the viewer to imagine the conversation as they paddled back to the dock after lunch. The end credits sequence suggest that their relationship has involved a lot of flirting, and it seems clear that Aoi was just a little innocent when it came to Hikari's affection. In the end, Hikari's line about being dumped yesterday sounds more like an excuse she is offering to Aoi so that they can pretend that Hikari didn't just confess her love to a high school girl.

But when she finally figured it out, Aoi was the one who was mature and discrete, declining to share the details with Hinata, and continuing to have a good relationship with Hikari.

The stories were nice, if a little rushed. I find myself wishing this had been two full episodes instead of two stories packed into one episode.

I wish Honoka got more screentime with her brother complex.
It's so cute how she finds it very embarrassing to show affection towards her brother in front of others.

Hardly, actually.
Even if Hikari really has a crush on Aoi, one side female character having one sided crush on different girl doesn't really qualify the tag.
We have literally this in Bocchi the Rock airing this season and it doesn't have as well.
I guess yuri should be a major theme of the show.
Still, Hikari gave a serious gay vibes. She even tried to get Aoi drunk for some reason. XD

I got a kick out of the older girl thinking Honoka was a boy. We need more of Honoka!

You might think it creepy that Hikari, a 20 year old college student invites the 15/16 year old Aoi out to an isolated place and brings alcohol along with her love bentos🍱 But I think the takeaway message is that Aoi is growing up and is now emotionally more mature than her older coworker.

Neither the original manga nor anime has ever been branded as yuri. One joke segment where a side character spends an evening with another girl because her new romance failed, hardly makes a yuri show yet. It's like going out with your friends because your date failed. Not to mention the fact that daito in certain cases means not only a romantic date, but also just spending time together. You can easily find posts or videos where two female celebrities spend time together without any romantic hint and call it daito.

Bocchi has an akogare case where one character passionately admires another as an idol, this can hardly even be considered a fully fledged romantic subplot. The main thing that defines such things is explicit and unambiguous romantic intentions. For example, when a colleague in New Game! directly fantasizes about the wedding with Ko.

Actually, I interpret this whole segment in slightly different way.
I suspect, that Hikari already had a set up a date with her ex, but he/she dumped her just prior. She decided to invite someone, anyone, on that "little date", because she already booked a boat ride and prepared heart shaped snacks, which originally were not meant for Aoi. Throughout the whole little date Hikari's cheerful demeanor felt forced just like it was an act and when Aoi commented, that "It looks like an actual date", Hikari responded with silence, because it was kinda hurtful as it was supposed to be an actual date and she was still sad about the breakup. Then comes classic drowning sorrows in alcohol.
Yuri or not, this whole segment was absolutely phenomenal. Hikari handled this breakup brilliantly and Aoi learned something very valuable about incoming adulthood. I totally not expected such a deep moment in a literal CGDCT anime.

You'll remember this a lot more if you remember that in Japanese media, drinking is used either to portray frivolous fun or as a "drinking down" of personal problems. I think given the title of the episode you're pretty accurate, she just invited a good friend to hang out with her after she got dumped. Christmas is considered a romantic holiday in Japan, so it's possible she really planned it.

They didn't say the shop lady Wasn't a lesbian....this episode really just like full ass fooled my dummy brain into thinking the series was taking a sudden soft core lesbian turn and Aoi would finally realize how she and Hinata are lowkey in love with each other. I don't even ship them, they just act really in love wih each other in the type of clueless baby gay way

Bruh. The entire point of the segment was Hikari coping after sudden, painful breakup and Aoi having a glympse of what adults deal with on regular basis, not establishing any ship. XD

If you read this segment as Aoi and Hikari's mutual love, then Aoi should already be in love with the rest of the cast, lol. Seriously, people will never stop reading any emotion as romantic involvement, ignoring any context.

Aoi looked rather cute in that Santa outfit. And then out of nowhere Kokona dons the outfit herself, making my heart skip a few beats and triggering a few pauses and rewinds. Goodness gracious! Aoi was something, but Kokona? She's just too pure! haha

On a more serious note I really love seeing Aoi's growth as a person since especially the first season. She's become so well-rounded and mature. Her date with Hikari had me for a minute though thinking things would actually venture into yuri territory. With the second half, the party was heartwarming to watch. Episodes like this are why I'm still in the anime game a decade later and why SoL is my undisputed go-to anime genre.

Lesbians, lesbians everywh- err no. She got dumped, it seems. Okay... sure.

5/5 episode. Leaving ambiguities aside, the date segment with Aoi and Hikari was really nice and the conclusion with Aoi learning a bit more about adulthood was even better.

As for the christmas segment, nothing much to say there. Very cute, very wholesome and seeing Kokona in a Santa outfit will give me life for another month. Seriously, what a precious child she is.

Also Honoka's brother blasting Eurobeat in his car will never get old lmao.

Hikari's story touched me very much! I know how such moments can feel! I really admire her because I was never capable of bravely facing such situations and keeping my composure. Aoi was such great company!

The Christmas story was adorable! So heartwarming and healing!

Also, was catching up to last season series, somehow ended up watching this christmas episode on christmas, lol

(I assumed christmas episodes would be at ep 12 or something, since I am still 6 episodes from latest aired episode, which most anime's latest episode is during chrismas week)
