simple question.

with mal marking Mushoku tensei as an ecchi, the tag can no longer be trusted.

so is this just the normal doze of anime fanservice "like my dress up darling, fire force, call of the night"

or is it like an ecchi, ecchi "highschool dxd, redo of healer, interspecies reviewers, kiss x sis"

I wouldn’t say it’s an ecchi. They more bank on the fan service. Like Uzaki is basically just a walking fan service machine. It doesn’t have too much ecchi themes to be honest

It all lewd dress, design and teasing scenes for comedy purpose. Nudity is not their (basically lot of skinship without showing much skin)
Mushoku tensei is banging sound effect almost the entire time with with tit bits of sex and sexual fetish/fantasy portrayal here and there.
So It depends of what u mean by ecchi.

As from ur eg it is very conservative than "highschool dxd, redo of healer, interspecies reviewers, kiss x sis". It's even lesser than fire force too.

Despite Uzaki's main trait being her big booba, this show actually doesn't have that much ecchi moments. Usually they revolve around said booba and that's it.

Calling this an ecchi is an insult to ecchi.

But then again, My Dress-Up Darling is not considered ecchi here on MAL but Mushoku Tensei is....

So you are asking if its ecchi (my dress up darling, fire force, call of the night) or borderline porn (highschool dxd, redo of healer, interspecies reviewers, kiss x sis).

This show is ecchi. It has low amounts compared to other shows. You can tell just from clips.

I mean by mal tags none of those 3 are counted as ecchi.

so it seems on mal ecchi is either borderline hentai or whatever they feel like it.

If this is classed as Ecchi then the bar for Ecchi is now set very low. As others have said, it has a bit on fan service but no more than a typical Isseki or rom com.

To directly answer your question in your topic, no.
It's barely naughty at all aside from somewhat accidental boob grabs or whatever which don't fall in the trope of the heroine slapping the male out of embarassement, instead it's the rare non-tsundere reply of simply understanding the mistake and not abusing the guy for it which is refreshing.
Along with some sexy views, I guess, but not really.

The most amount of fan service is probably episode 1 season 1. But wouldn't call it an ecchi. There are shows with more fan service and horny scenes without the ecchi tag on mal

In most anime, if a girl has big boobs, you can count on it having fanservice to go with it. Uzaki-chan is the counterexample to that notion. She has big boobs but for the most part they don't factor into the story. The most fanservice moment I can think of didn't even involve her boobs (it was in I think the second or third episode of season 1 when she gets caught in some shrubbery with her skirt pulled up).

Most ecchi shows aren't carried just by the titilating content. Highschool of the Dead for instance isn't carried by the gratuitous fanservice.

If a show has fanservice in it, it should definitely be tagged as ecchi, regardless of how it shifts the story progression.

1. hotd has an extremely high amount of fanservice even though its mostly without nipples

2. it does show nipples in the bath scene

It's even slightly less ecchi, than your usual casual slice-of-life seinen romcom. There's almost no revealing scenes (I can't remember any really) and scenes with lewd context are fairly rare. I would say it's pretty average on the lower end of spectrum. If you're put off by ecchi stuff, but love romcoms, I would say give it a go. I would say that "My dress up darling" surprisingly has more ecchi stuff, although it's perceived as more "normal".
This anime somehow got a weird perception in the west, because of a lot of fan-made ecchi content featuring Hana and Tsuki Uzaki (and EN Youtube and Twitter pointing it out). All of the ecchi parts of the original are basically encapsulated in their character design (with jokes and fanservice things occasionally built around that). There's obviously no sex scenes, even underwear shots which are common in the ecchi etc. if I remember correctly.

What? Since when Sono Bisque Doll is usual anime fanservice that is just used here and there like in Uzaki.-chan for example? Sono Bisque Doll is so clearly an ecchi that it weirds me out so much that there are people that say it isn't, you don't even need to check the manga to see it.

This show is a comedy with expected fan service. But I want to stress that as a comedy its very well written, voiced and paced. Color and animation are also a step up from the last season. Excellent, super fun watch overall. Don't lump together with other half hearted shows, this ain't one of them.

No, you just didn't understand what I was talking about... which is partly my fault for not being clear.

I was trying to say that, your argument would work, IF ozaki chan actually had a lot of fanservice. which from all the replies I have gotten, it seems like the fanservice amount is about the same as every none ecchi rom com or isekai.

it is true that the fanservice being high is the only thing that matters, but that only works IF the fanservice amount is actually high.

in highschool of the dead... it's more than enough. in ozaki, again, I haven't seen it, but from the replies, it seems like it isn't.

Opinions will clash. I view all the shows you mentioned as deserving the Ecchi tag. Even if MAL doesn't agree. For me the only difference these shows have in they're fan-service, is how tastefully it's portrayed.

Tasteful Ecchi:

Mushoku Tensei - High quality fan-service
My dress up darling - High quality
Fire force - Mid quality

Tasteless Ecchi:

Uzaki-chan - Low quality
Highschool dxd - Low quality
Futoku no Guild - Low quality
Peter Grill - High quality (I'm biased)

I think a new term should be invented that falls between Ecchi and just fanservice. Because KissXSis or High School DxD cannot be compared to this anime. There it is literally softporn, while here it is a cute fanservice

The characters are ugly and while they may be developed, they aren't particularly interesting.
I will admit that the comedy, dialogue specifically, is where the anime shines. At least Uzaki is better than Takagi-san, Komi and Jahi, but inferior to Nagatoro.

I disagree on the character designs being ugly. I'd say they are simply plain and conservative.. particularly with the shows color palettes. In Uzaki-chan's design I am often reminded that I am watching a funny cartoon.. which is a feeling that's consistent with the rest of the show and what it aims to do. As for Nagatoro.. I thoroughly enjoy that show as well... I may actuallly laugh more with Uzaki-Chan.. but Nagatoro is right up there for me as too.

Those aside some of my top favorites right now have been Mairimashita Iruma-kun, Spy X Family, and Urusei Yatsura (2022) all of which come strongly recommend.

Netflick's "Romantic-Killer" is a surprising hit for me and more should give it a watch. This seasons Tomo-Chan is also fantastic, and so is "Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for Retirement".

Spy X Family was a great experience for me; great art, details, solid animation, the characters and their relationships are great too. Admittedly its a slow burn watch as the show works its way to develop the characters and the plot. As a matter of fact this season did seem largely focused on character introductions and plot development. Id say it was handled really well though as I had plenty of good laughs.

Nice to see some appreciation for Mairimashita Iruma-Kun.. Id say that show is terribly overlooked. Its such a great show with lots of story beats, characters and great humor to offer. Character designs are off the beaten path and in some cases outrages looking, but with the way the show carries itself its so easy to be charmed by all of them.

Urusei Yatsura is a show that when you watch you will know its a show of its time.. and I mean that in the most flattering way. You will seldom see comedy like this anymore. And for that I really love this show. For those that do appreciate this old school form of humor there will be a lot of laughs to be had. The characters are outrageous and hysterical funny. I think I laughed with this show more than any other show recently. You could say this is the sort of humor I enjoy most. Humor aside the art is so beautiful, very colorful without being overbearing.

Edit: Oh "Love After World Domination" was fricken hilarious to me. I really recommend that one too, super fun watch... awesome opening too!
Edit2: "Call of the Night" was really great as were its opening, loved all of that show. "My Dress up Darling was a good watch for me too."

Spy X Family - Hot take, it's because the show is comedy, that it didn't appeal to me. I'm an anime only. So I was expecting the opposite of comedy, with maybe a little, not some, but just a little humor in it. In the end, I completed s1 and felt, "yeah, this would have worked better if it was serious".

Mairimashita Iruma-Kun - Thank you, I just turn my brain off and enjoy this show for what it is. Pure entertainment, with some underlying plot. But it's for s2's Iruma, in his evil cycle and Asmodeus's evil cycle in s3, that I not only like, but appreciate this show, probably more than BNHA.

There's kind of only one possibility, the one where both words start with an "F", such as Fire Force

Season 1 had a fair bit of fanservice, but season 2 barely has any fanservice at all. There is like one episode where they are in swimsuits and that's about all you get.
