Really meh episode.

Nothing really special, the LN probably does a better job explaining this whole Spirit Tortoise thing.
I feel like this season is not gonna be anything special from what've seen.

It was more interesting than the first episode of this season. But I forgot, who is the green haired lady?

Also, Slut was nowhere to be seen and that is always a plus.

I agree though, so far it's feeling a little like a unnecessary season.

Raphtalia looking at Naofumi.
Lmao, comedy gold. Cant even complain about the episode.
But then she asks what she means by "doing it", that just shows Raphtalia should have stayed a loli for longer..

Green haired girl likes wearing her costumes, is that supposed to be her one character trait or am I missing something from last season?

Overall it feels like we just rushed through a lot of source material with some small time skips/travel teleportations. Really not looking good for this adaption..

True, the first season was a hit because while its just above average isekai it had a pretty unique setting. Naofumi not beeing OP in some way, beeing a social outcast and also not beeing the White Knight MC etc. That was the interesting part, now all of that is solved. He has friends, is respected by the queen even, and he is plenty strong. Even his character changed from a cunt to a generic isekai MC, as shown by questioning green hair girl if she really wants to become a slave instead of pushing her into it in the first place. Now its just slightly above average isekai left, but nothing in the leagues of Re Zero or Mushoku Tensei. Atleast Overlord still has its setting, leaving Shield Hero pretty much at the bottom of the big titles. Sadly this is a problem shared by many anime, if it has a unique setting its likely to get solved during the first 2 or 3 arcs, leaving no identity behind. And then it inevitably falls further from grace because the story gets drawn out to sell more volumes.
Last season I was told the best parts of the LN were all in S1, so S2 is really nothing to look forward to in particular. It does seem like that wasnt a lie.

Honestly I really dont understand why LN adaptions always skip all the internal monologue, its what gives the story and characters depth and surely they would be some space left in an episode for a little of it atleast.

How is the manga compared to the LN? I was interested in reading the LN but for some reason manga translations are easier to find than "just text".

The OST in the end was pretty crazy, it's finally starting. The attack against the Spirit Tortoise will most likely end with a lot of casualties.

You pretty much summed it up. It does become extremely generic after the first couple arcs, but the characters and their interactions make it really enjoyable. That’s why I have it rated so highly and love it so much. I haven’t read the manga so idk. I don’t read manga adaptations of LNs. But from what I saw on the subreddit even manga readers were upset.

Long exposition for a story and world that really isn't deep enough to warrant an entire episode of exposition, featuring characters that we probably won't even see again.

This was a really bad episode, the next one better be good or I'm going to drop.

Just don’t think I’ll ever be able to get with the pacing. It’s great for anime only people, although I think this season will be less popular than the first, but this is my second fave LN series and the only one to make me actually cry. It’s impossible for me to separate the anime and LN.

There’s just too much skipped groundwork and the story being out of order in the anime makes it feel really disjointed. Like obviously no LN adaptation has all of the internal monologue, but a big part of naofumi’s character is the internal monologue and especially in this arc it’s very important to understand what’s going on.

Give it time, as an anime viewer I can understand why they do things differently.

Read everyone's comments, Anime viewers are impossible to please lol.

have to entertain us and hook us in enough, so a lot of times anime shows things in different orders.

Like on episode 6-7 or after some major battle or moment we might get a flash back that goes over this extremely important inner monologue that you're mentioning.

Just my take!

Overall I'm happy to watch the show again, it's seems essentially the same as last season.

This episode is quite better than the first one in term of visual. They also give some addition to the narrative where they foreshadow Kyo (vassal hero) in this episode. MadKid is back with the opening theme but it is not as good as the theme in season 1, it become less catchy than before. Overall it was an enjoyable episode and I hope episode 3 will give us some action on Naofumi and the Generals struggle to stop the Spirit Turtle from rampaging.

Another cliffhanger damn.

We find out more about the mysterious woman, turns out she's on our side.

TBH this was kind of underwhelming, I'm not feeling the same interest, stakes, excitement and thrill like I did while watching season 1.

The ED is great though.

Well I still enjoyed it, the last part was kinda fun, Raphtalia's ears standing up after hearing about love advice xD.

Bit of a boring episode this week, although it went by quick.

So I guess the tortoise is a sort of guardian in a way, and is meant to stop the waves. But at the cost of an immense amount of lives. Which almost makes it feel pointless to even try and stop the waves.

Ost seems somewhat fun. But I'm confused on why she asked Naofumi to kill her last week and then all of sudden she wants to help. What was the point of her saying that last week? It feels as if the show forgot about it entirely. I'm open to any theories or explanations from anyone.

she asked naofumi to kill the tortoise

This episodes was full of dialogue and not much else is a common trope that many shows do, and it’s even prevalent in anime, thanks to Nisio Isin. However, the dialogue should be multifaceted and interesting.

Also, the music for this anime is done by Kevin Penkin, who was also the music director for the masterpiece of the soundtrack that was Made in Abyss. You can hear his signature classical instruments in this soundtrack, and it naturally sounds amazing.

So... no one is gonna question Ost about the "kill me" part? Guess no. Anyways, now we have another female joining Naofumi's harem group.

Decent build-up episode overall. Definitely better than the abomination we got last week.

Mainly another build up episode getting us refamiliarized with events and the characters involved while leading up to this new conflict with the Spirit Tortoise. Found the OP to be pretty great upon hearing it again but I really enjoyed the ED personally Chiai's voice is very soothing and hopeful if that makes sense.

We got a few more pieces to the puzzle that is Ost (plus she is voiced by Kana Hanazawa always great to hear ^-^) known in this world as royalty the consort to a ruler of the region they are in but she is actually a familiar to the Tortoise but in human form (but she claims that is a lie as well and a long story to boot)! She lets everyone know the the seal on the Tortoise was broken and controlled by that perpetrator that's why it is wreaking havoc. It was pretty funny and cute how she was surprised that the information she gave the council already knew XD it was certainly an interesting contrast to the aura she gave off initially.

Good thinking on Naofumi's part to stop the head butting in the war council by declaring his team will lead the attack while following the orders of anyone; and nice that he is mostly concerned with implementing a strategy that will result in the least amount of lives lost. But, the best part of the episode would have to be Raphtalia and Naofumi on the bridge. Raphtalia's heart still remains kind and strong as she does not see those generals as bad people just those who want to protect their countries; what they love. I believe she can tell Naofumi feels similarly even if he won't come out and say it directly. The encouragement she gives him in wanting to come up with a incredible plan along with all their friends coupled with that sweet smile of hers' was just the right combination to keep anyone's inner drive and will bright and radiant ^-^

Which bore fruit as everyone works together and makes an effort, playing a part to give them the best chance to stop this disaster from continuing. Plus looks like the party gets some useful new equipment for the coming battle from Eclair LOL Rishia in her Filo costume was pretty cute. Ost inquiring and flat out stating how Rishia feels about the Bow Hero was funny plus her confidence in her expert advice for securing the one you have your eye on was hilarious; along with Rishia getting flustered and Raphtalia's ears perking up at such potential advice and her confusion in not being in the loop on the true context XD too funny.

But, before any of that can continue looks like our heroes better be prepared as ending on this cliffhanger looks like the battle will be getting underway wonder where things will go from here looking forward to what comes next!

Omg the pacing is too fast like the first episode. I thought they would held another meeting after the chat of Naofumi and Raphtalia but they are already heading out right after. Also there are a lot of information dumped on this episode. I don't dislike it, just having a hard time to catch up. Like hello, I'm barely hanging, send help LMAO.

Anw, the ED for this season is also great like from the prev season. I like it.

The green haired girl really really annoys me, almost kills the entire vibe of the show. It makes literally no sense as to why she loves the Bow Hero. At least, why at this point? It's literally just cheap drama with no substance. Basically the same as girls falling for the protagonists of series for no reason.

Alright, so its revealed that HanaKana character actually the human incarnation of the spirit tortoise which also revealed whats happened behind all of the ruckus: seal broke early, and someone controlled the spirit.

Some more revelations including a new name of the heroes, beside the four cardinal heroes, named seven stars (which at first its kinda a big wow, but when the Queen revealed they were not as great as the four heroes, i immediately just thinking out loud: wtf?) which based on the obvious spoiler of the mal list desc, its may relate to what happen later to Rishia. Perhaps.

Speaking of the devil, about the green-haired chick, she got a very well advice from the human incarnation of the spirit tortoise: just, do, it, bang. Funny how Raph still as innocent as Filo regarding to the advice. Seems like Naofumi need to teach the poor soul some good lesson of the advice, in order to clear things up.

Unfortunately, its looks like enough with the chit-chat, and return back to the edgy action for the shield bro again, right? Lets go....

She was in bow hero party. No one respected her because she lacked confidence. Shield Hero seen past peoples petty assumptions about the usefulness of people (part of the entire 'vibe' of the show as you put it) and brought her onboard into his team. She has a decent character development arc running into this new season as part of shield heros team, and im looking forward to seeing the character grow. The relationship between her her liking the bow guy is irrelevant to the story or plot but Im guessing is used to show why she wants to get stronger for the recognition of the person she likes.

The Spirit Tortoise is actually based on one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations, the Black Tortoise of the North. For the east you have the Azure Dragon of the East, Vermilion Bird of the South, and White Tiger of the West. You can tell from the clothes, and the buildings those generals wears, and the name of the country Reiki or Spirit Tortoise Nation.

The plot thickens, Naofumi once again attending a meeting between nation leaders and having to put his foot down. Raphtalia then persuading him to help them since, ngl, i really don't think the other 3 bozo heroes are gonna come.

I like this Spirit Tortoise familiar person, she seems like an air head but gets the job done. Her casually dropping the "yeh i lied" line to one of the nation leaders was gold. With her introduction we also got some pretty interesting lore about the tortoise itself like it's links to waves and gathering souls. Also can't forget the "cutting it's head off means it'll die" ah yes almost as iconic as the classic "people die when they are killed"

The ending theme was nice, calm af with heavy focus on Filo which was nice.
