The Fido scene at the end really hits different...

It was quite painful and sad to be reminded once again of all those gone Spearhead Squadron members. The members as they went through good times, bad times. As their numbers got thinner and thinner and thinner...

What especially hit hard was Anju crying in a corner presumably after Daiya's death. That really tugged at my heartstrings. Another was the red-haired guy, but I don't remember his name. The one who went with Daiya and the blonde-haired guy that's still alive to peek on the girls. I guess he was one of the last six survivors? First, a shot of him being excited to be able to go on the recon mission with the other five that did survive to the end. Followed by a haunting shot of his blood and shadow hanging from his mecha...

This show has been really amazing. I'm still wowed by the direction, quality, and effort put into this even now.

I honestly didn’t expect for Fido to die, I guess wishful thinking doesn’t apply to 86. I grew attached within those few minutes of montage from Fido tbh so it was painful to watch along side the memories made from the Spearhead squadron. I at least want Fido to be salvaged or sumth. :-(

I don't think the anime mention this or did it?
From the LN:
The Republic’s eastern neighbor and superpower of the northern continent, the Empire of Giad, declared war on all its neighboring countries and began attacking with an army of the world’s first completely autonomous unmanned combat drone, Legion.

So yeah

I thought this episode will be refreshing but what's up with that ending....I teared up.

What Fido has been seeing all this time, capturing all kinds of happy and sad moments, especially how it saw Shin grow up and those moments of the rest of the members...those were some really precious memories, that was really beautiful. It's really heartbreaking to see Fido getting destroyed like that. Hands up to the sky playing in the background, it made it more emotional.

It was nice to see Shin laugh so many times, really an unexpected sight. Also that one laugh was so extended it felt weird XD

I was wondering what they gonna pull of for last 2 episodes when they basically almost finished whole volume 1 in previous episode. And well. I am amazed, this is pretty much whole anime original stuff, full of memories and chill, maybe they flesh out side characters they forgot about a bit more. I am not mad, I am glad. Let's finish this season. For now. Goodbye Fido.

I've re-watched the show a few times now and something Annette says to Lena that I initially took to be modesty about the development of the Para-RAID kind of matches up with Fido being in Shin and Rei's garden.

She says "The fundamental principles were all developed by someone else."

That someone was either Shin's mum or dad wasn't it?

Wow these ending episodes are masterpieces. Has changed my ideas of what good anime can be or what stories they stem from.

The ending sequence of seeing the robot, filo's, video footage up to its end left me with a entrenching and compelling empathy, toward not only the characters but everyone affected by this war.

See you 86.

Why, why did the one character that we only got to know now should die like that, you got to be messing me!!! RIP Fido...you have served us well. (sob sob)

No Lena in this episode at all, so we only have the 5 people we have left to have a solid time in peace. It was a bit tense all throughout but it was a good episode, and atleast we see them truly free and happy for once. But Fido...why did Fido go like that!!! After 5 years of being with Shin, Fido has seen it all. From the Squadron's happy times and bad moments, it saw it all. And what hurts is that we only got to know the robot just now, that's just unfair. This anime cannot stop giving me curveballs and awesome direction...for all its worth. I don't even know what to feel for the finale, but I guess it'll be the payoff for all we've experienced in this amazing season of this amazing series.

Finally a break from all the action of this series but they're still not as free as a bird just yet

Just from the look of their faces they know they found peace and paradise that they'll never taking their hands off, Shin is very cheerful as well recently glad that he's finally past from his tense self

So there's still some Legions lurking around better watch out, Looking at Fido's past memories he's been through with Shin like almost from the start until the end that cliffhanger is really bugging me out.

Dang, I got my hopes up thinking they all would be okay, but then Fido :'(
The montage of Fido's memories was so heartbreaking
It also showed a memory of Shin when he was with his brother, so maybe Fido was a human he knew before they got turned into a robot?

An episode filled with a solemn tone throughout.Despite not having much progression plot-wise,episode maintains bittersweetness of the aftermath and we see a change in Shin's expression.

Those views of nature were heavenly.Much needed respite for our veterans. They are not the extentions of a machine anymore,at least for a brief time. That after credits scene..That was really crushing for me.Made me feel for the characters i've never had the time to care for. Now,on to the Lena's POV episode!

The ending sequence was probably the best moment in the entire show so far. Comparing to other episodes, this has far superior storytelling, hence genuine emotional attachment. It's crazy how I get most emotional because of a robot rather than most human characters, and this is entirely due to very simple yet effective and clever tricks in the narrative.

I'm very glad we focused on the 86 this time, instead of Lena. I honestly couldn't like her, but also for narrative sake, I think this is for the better. I saw people saying the first part was entirely anime original, and I'm glad they included that part. It hits different to see them enjoying themselves for a brief moment alongside with Fido, just to get us the the ending part.

This episode was good, I'll give it that.

Even though they escaped, they are not completely free and need to watch out for the Legion's forces.

I liked last several minutes of that episode, centered around Fido. That ending was really sad, though. After all those moments, as if Fido's mechanical life flashed before his optical parts, Fido got destroyed. :(

Finally they escaped from republic, after those emotional and hectic fights before we got treated with wonderful scenery outside the republic as they went on their journey.

It was really nice seeing them enjoying carefree, and relaxing lives happily with big smiles. nice for the girl as they coud got their long awaited bath. It was also nice seeing Shin smiling alot as Theo also noted that he seems lonely without usual Major nightchat (fuu-fuu XD)
they also drop by a ruined city from Giadian Empire, gathering resources and doing some sightseeing, they also met a dying Legion that the voiced was calling Shin.

and..they finally continued the journey

The aftercredits scene with Fido's perspective by his recording from his life and journey along the Spearhead Squadron was awesome. He was liked the proof and memories of Spearhead Squadron and obviously 86... until the end of his "life"...

This episode was almost fully anime original, the director and staff were really doing a great job directing this one episode. Nice change of pace before final one.

Nah if I was them I'd just try to live in peace and quiet you know, live off the land, gather, fish, that sort of things and just hide from the Legion since Shin can hear them if they get close anyway. Fuck the war. And Fido's death, man goddamn. Sadder than the most for some reason.

The ending where Fido encapsulated everything was so powerful man. I do think this show could've done more to make me like the characters even more at this point. But, I do somewhat "care" about them. The most powerful moment was hearing Gunslinger talk about Shin etc. because they all used Fido to talk about everything to. Really was a pet dog basically. I'm not shocked Fido died, I'm really expecting everyone in this anime to die besides the Major lmao.

Up until this episode the series was nothing special, to exaggerated and quite naïve to me.
But the last part of the episode where Fido's recording is shown and with one of the survived members hanging himself because he cannot bear the burden. +a Clif hanger with Fido's reason to blowup to be unknown....
Just these two moments made the series worth the watch. These are some really high quality pieces.

It was a slower episode, nice change of pace, but... this kind of shows the problem, where, instead of having independent views, and showing many different perspectives simultaneously, we see only one perspective, then we flash back to it multiple times from another perspective.

It's so beautiful the fields of flowers and the landscape, I love Fido, the way they layed out this episode. Like how they showed everything that's happened until now through Fido's perspective is so amazing.
I guess Fido's finally shut down, I miss him, the robot dog was a nice touch ngl. Although it's not a real dog he's kinda... cute.

Just wondering is it's name Faido or Fido I've seen different versions!

Of course, the classic relaxation episode with pain waiting at the end.

I knew not even Fido was safe in a war but man, they managed to make a robot dog thing look like it was crying after showing a montage of his video feeds and it hurt to watch.
