Fairly interesting story, I along everyone else(I suppose) thought that it was a story about Fumika's childhood in the beginning. I was more thinking that the kid met Chiaki before they revealed Fumika's face.
Anyways, Fumika opened her eyes! It'll be really interesting to see what happens next.

The script & composition is getting improved. 30's, single, no job...and cancer. it's painful to see him. but at last he got the blessing of hmm... game? And Fumi-chan woke up! What's gonna happen to Mika, then? I'm looking forward to watching the next episode!

Yeah, I also thought it was Fumika in the beginning ^^. The story was pretty good, I felt quite touched at the end when Fumika delivered the Shigofumi. Looking forwrard to what happens next.

Good episode, needs more Mika-chan, though =P
Can't wait to see what will happen next, now that Fumika is going to wake up.

Gah, back on track with the tear-jerking. Nice episode, but appendix cancer? Remove it! If his cancer hadn't metastisized (meaning spread throughout the rest of the body) it shouldn't be a problem. The human body doesn't need an appendix unless this is an Eastern thought that it is a necessity? Western medical society still don't know the purpose of the organ.

What an ironic turn of events though. Here the lil' Fumika stopped him from commiting suicide and then he gets run over by a truck. I know that water was looking awfully tempting to him before she popped into the light.

Fumika awakes?!!?!! Had to happen eventually. Yeah, pins and needles time.

Another great episode. It really taught a real great lesson, the only thing I didn't like was less screen time of Fumika. But it was a nice touch of her delivering that letter to the little girl. It looks like Fumika has finally awaken, so I wonder what is going to happen now.

This episode was interesting. I also thought it was a retelling of Fumika's past ^^ at the beginning. I wonder how Fumika being awake is going to affect the story O_O. Really looking forward to next week.

When i saw Fumika @ the police station i was like : Rewind... Oh wait what the hell? xD

It was a touching episode. Tbh since it had some connections to my living experience (Part of my father's side family died from cancer so i (think) i know well the feelings people can have when is diagnosed a mortal disease) i was almost shreding some tears.

Fumi-chan woke up. But sozbob ruined the most predictable moment of the anime :p

I'm gonna guess it had already gone beyond that point, otherwise you are right, it is treatable.

I don't know, but I kinda hoped the girl would do something more than just turn off the game. Although I guess that implies that she finally understood death.

This was one of the best episodes so far (for me it's tied with the one centering on survival of the fittest.) The male lead this episode had a lot of realistic character traits and I thought that his acceptance of death in the end was really fitting.

And Fumi's awake, so the main plot progresses as well.

I almost forgot how I loved Shigofumi so much in the beginning of this series. I remember how the topic revolving humans and death being addressed captivated viewers. Of course I think this episode is great for walking down its earlier path again. Very depressing story and almost made me cry.

And definitely can't wait until Fumi-chan's awakening next week.

I felt the same way!!! It was an interesting turn of events!!!

Next time though, Fumika wakes up... she will get question by the police and stuff, she did shoot her father!!! I wonder what will happen to the Mail-carrier Fumika, she was not shown in the preview !!!

Actually, all things considered, the letter was obvious, chibi-Fumika's reaction wasn't.

Probably the best episode I watched in 2008. Absolutely brilliant, deep, powerful, moving, well directed and written. It has pretty much everything I hope for an anime episode, and even much more. Well, I'm a big Sato Tatsuo fan so I may be biased ;)

I thought that was a really lovely episode. I liked the short trip away from the mail carriers and back to the people who received it too. It was sweet and poignant and the little girl was cute. I liked the little circle they made with the bird and the guy in the episode too.

And then wham! Fumika's eyes open. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I'm a bit lost as to why the guy was arrested, did the kid's mother report her as being kidnapped or was some other girl they mistook her for?

The police saw a man with a child who doesn't seem to be related to him in any ways (no shouting of papa, mama, uncle..) and they instantly assume the worst that he is a desperate child kidnapper. Plus there was a very recent report of a missing child case.

Can't fully blame the police though..

First, I just want to say are the police in Japan insensitive morons or something? First was the police officer who arrested the guy. Yeah, because the first thing that comes to mind when I find a guy being beaten up by punks with a little kid is that this guy is a child molester. Even if there had been a recent report of a child kidnapping shouldn't the cop have made a positive ID that the child with him matched the description of the missing child and questioned the two of them instead of immediately pouncing on the guy. It's not like Lil' Fumika was in any apparent danger or Takehiko was about to grab her and run away from the cop. WTF Japan?

Then there was the cop at the station. Get a job so you don't do something desperate like kidnap children again? First of all, where is your proof he was kidnapping any kids in the first place, and second you call his former place of employment and not his house, his mother, or, the most obvious choice, the girl's mother to verify his story. Again, are police in this country morons? Is it just illegal to sue the police for libel or something 'cause otherwise that was a really stupid thing for the cop to say. Way to kick a guy when he's already down.

Didn't like this episode all that much. Too much of it felt contrived to make this the worst day of this guy's life or something. First the cops, and also Takehiko's decision not to tell anyone about his disease. I'll grant he was depressed, but so much of the crap he suffered from his mom, his coworker, and the interrogator could've been avoided if he'd said look guys I have a terminal illness. Maybe there's some cultural disconnect I'm not getting but either way all it did was to annoy me.

That's exactly how I felt, the police just did one screwed up thing after the other. First they handcuff a guy who's just been kicked over and over without even checking if he had any injuries, based solely on the fact that he was with a little girl. Then they leave the aleged kidnapped girl who's barely four unsupervisioned on the lobby, make apparently no attempt to question her about anything, and after confirming that the guy used to have a job (I have no idea why is that relevant to the case in the first place) and scolding him for being unemployed and kidnapping little girls, let him out with the kid without ever getting to speak with her mother. I mean, I'vee heard things about the Japanese police, but if it really is anything like this...

At first I didn't think the uncle had cancer;

If I recall correctly from the class I took in college, it is of very high importance to fit into societies norms. You must do best for the society and keep up your image. Having a job is on that list as well as getting married and having children. It is like a civic duty to maintain the honor and respect of your family. Any deviation from that is seen as an abnormality and will not be looked on too highly. They guy was unmarried, 30 years old, and worked for a game company. The only thing that was saving him was that he had a job. When he quit he lost that security blanket and society came down on him. To the cop that's the first signs of trouble. He probably assumed that he was a pedo watching otaku that gone too far. I think this is an extreme case and cannot be applied to all real world situations but there is likely some truth in the whole incident that mimics reality.

I do agree that the whole situation was approached terribly.

I too was duped by the Fumi Fumi switch. The creators love to mess with our heads. I almost shed a tear at the end.

For the appendix cancer I wondered also why they couldn't just cut the thing out too. But it looks like that it's hard to detect initially and it's rare. Survival rates aren't that good but that was taken from over decades of cases. Later cases seem to have more survival rate than in the past. He should have had a second opinion and seen a specialist before giving up. :( Several people I know had cancer. None of them gave up. Some made it and some didn't. In a way I guess I'm glad he didn't have to suffer long but at the same time I wanted to see him fight.

Oh yes...and she's up.

If we got 80% or higher let me know! :)

I knew when I posted above that he can't have it removed now since I looked it up. As I said above survival rates are not good so he probably wasn't going to survive. I think he still wish could have did something with the time remaining. I don't think he was going to instantly drop dead that night but he had some time. He could have helped with the game as much as possible etc. You fight until you die. At least he got some redemption by saving the girl.

The funny part is that right before he saved Chibi-Fumika, he had seemed to come to the conclusion he couldn't keep up the pessimist attitude. And then truck comes, he saves kid, dies.

Great episode! I was really touched when she was telling him to wake up because it was already past lunchtime ^^ That almost made me cry (and I haven't cried in anything yet that other people have ^^). If it would have followed on, and had a good reaction at the end, I probably would have... but her reaction was too weird. Switching back and forth between the game was expected, but just shutting it off? But her bursting into tears would have seemed awkward, too. I don't know what I expected, but it just didn't seem right...

I knew from the beginning it wasn't Fumika the postal worker- it was made clear in previous episodes that she wasn't allowed out of the house until middle school, or have you all forgotten that? XD

This was a good episode, going back to the same feel of the beginning episodes. Only 2 more left! & Fumi-chan's awake! I'm excited.
