Looks like Neku and Joshua have to face off against Minamimoto in their most important day of this game.

I thought this episode was pretty thrilling. Just seeing those two fight against their obstacles and survive together with high stakes. The battles this episode turned out to be quite intense as well. Best episode of the series so far imo.

Neku once again saw a couple of his friends disappearing in front of him. He's frustrated because of it and doesn't want to lose anyone anymore. Even the reapers aren't immune to noise this time. So, he decided to back them up.

The gamemaster once again was pretty strong and In order to defeat him, both worked with each other until Minamimoto sacrificed himself in order to take out both of them along with him but Kiryu saved Neku. Neku regrets not trusting him and now Neku has to enter in a 3rd game.

So Joshua was good and didn't kill Neku back then, he even sacrificed himself against Minamimoto for Neku to survive... but it's not positive at all, he needs to participate in a third and final game and can't play after this one, I wonder what he lost now, I really hope that he'll be able to save Shiki after this game.

NGL, as much as the alive Joshua can weave his words against someone who has killed him before, the amount of trust that Neku must give to Joshua is the same as before, until the 2nd Reapers' Game is finished.

Week 2's Game Master Minamimoto's time as more Taboo Noise comes out to thwart Neku and Joshua's missions, is getting more fired up. A sad time for both Sota and Nao to lose their lives at an opportune time, even Reapers Kariya and Uzuki are of no consolation to this whole issue.

Beat has no consolation of returning to his Player status, and the zetta bad-ass Game Master finally shows his true colours: a parallel-like world of Taboo Noise. Truly a final boss feeling of playing the game in the exact order, and to be frank, the combi power of Neku and Joshua is ZETTA EPIC levels of awesome.

Once again, another Player erased, and the Composer Kitanji has finally showed himself, all right in front of Neku's eyes. To let go with a penalty for Week 3 (his final game), what Neku does next will define the 2nd half of the show.

This episode went far and beyond, great stuff.

The second game was more like a battle between a cheating game master and a cheating player, they're just a perfect match LOL.

I kinda like Beat in his tsundere mode, he's cute, masculinity cute.

Lol, typical Minamimoto sending math problems as mission objectives. It was nice to see Neku feel bad about Sota and Nao. I like Kariya a lot, so it was neat to see him give an advice to Neku for helping him back there.

At first I was wondering what was the point of bringing back Beat in the final day when it wasn’t like that in the game. Totally forgot about the bell that he dropped last time. In the game, Neku returned it immediately. Feels a little awkward, ngl. Beat just came out of nowhere for no real purpose other than to get that pendant returned back to him, lol

And Neku regained more of his memories and remembered that it was Minamimoto that shot him. The fight with Minamimoto was actually pretty cool. His Noise CG model actually looks pretty nice. The smearing effects on the model during motion made the animation look pretty clean too. Still a little too short of a fight, but not bad. They really went all out with the scale of the fight though, lol. In the game, the fight was only on the roof. In the anime, it's some extradimensional space lmao. I do kinda wish that they used the game's OST, because it was really good. The music used here is just some ominous noises, lol.

With Joshua not being the real killer and him sacrificing himself for Neku, Neku’s feels bad for not ever trusting him. There was never a crying sprite for Neku in the game, so it was surprising to see him this emotionally devastated over Joshua's death. As a Joshua fan, I like it, haha. Well, time for one final week. Next couple of episodes should be fun stuff!

Pretty good episode actually. Fairly well-paced and put together. There were some awkward moments, like randomly having Beat show up so they can resolve the whole pendant thing before the battle with Minamimoto. The Minamimoto fight was substantially better than the Higashizawa fight. And overall, I think they did a pretty decent job with adapting Week 2. If only Week 1 had an extra episode, I would’ve felt more enthusiastic about this adaptation.

Five episodes left, though I think they’ll cover the rest of the game in three episode, and leave the last two episodes for A New Day… yay -_-

I'm really satisfied with how week 2 was adapted. There were a couple awkward choices here and there, but it was overall a solid experience that captures the general chaos of the game pretty well. Really excited for Week 3. Considering what goes down in it, it'll either take up all 5 episodes or leave a single episode for them to sneak in A New Day from Final Remix. 2 episodes is a bit much for A New Day, but one episode would be really strange so I'm hoping it just ends after the third week like the original game.

Cons: Minamimoto didn't scream out the numbers to pi before blowing everything up. RIP that moment was iconic in the game

Pros: The Lv3 Fusion attack was the biggest hype moment in the episode.

Maybe, maybe not. Considering that it's more centered around Tin Pin, something's that's been cut in the anime I'd doubt it.

I can't believe they cut out the Pi moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! score downgraded to 1!!!!!!!!!!1111

for real though, I felt... nothing? Neither on SotaNao's erasure nor on the fight. It's an improvement over the Higashizawa fight at least.

All in all, a way better adaptation than week 1.

Yay I'm actually trying to type my thoughts on time again lol

Time for the infamous part of the game where we all got "SO ZETTA SLOW!" stuck in our heads.
Well, we gotta ask... did the anime succeed in recreating this... or even just being entertaining in general? Let's find out.

✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶

Only thing I really want to point out about the very beginning of this ep is a potential visual easter egg. IIRC Joshua's shrug when he says "It beats being the RealGround" mimicks his shrug sprite from the game. Not entirely sure if that is the case, but if it is then that's nice; I do appreciate when the anime actually decides to reference the original sprites, like when Shiki's surprise sprite appeared during episode 1.

It's been a while since I played this part of the game, but I remember this part being pretty tense and kinda sad. And unfortunately, as I expected, the anime honestly doesn't exactly deliver that in the same way in my humble opinion. Sure, I don't remember Sota and Nao showing up that much in the original game, but I honestly thought their erasure was still more saddening there than how the anime executed it... maybe it's because the situation didn't feel as tense because of all fast it all went by in this episode. Well, at least I could say that the anime staff kinda tried with the extra screentime.
Unfortunately Neku doesn't say that one snarky line he says before he chooses to save Reaper Team Rocket Uzuki and Kariya from the Reaper Noise, but maybe that wasn't in the original Japanese version of the game anyway. I dunno.

Now onto the last day of Week 2. Agreed with @glamazon that this week was better adapted than Week 1 btw tho still incomplete.
All that imaginary plane stuff and dimensional rifts up to the part where Sho decides to destroy it for the boss fight was weird... don't remember any of that happening at all, so this must be an anime-only additional. Weird... anyway I really like the sunset colors when they do catch up to him and the way Neku got his memory back here was decently executed imo. It's just a shame that this sunset didn't become the whole setting for the actual fight, though occasionally seeing the events from previous episodes flash in the background throughout that fight was pretty neat. (Just pause here and there when you think you see something and you'll notice it, I noticed Shiki in a freeze frame right after Joshua and Neku get hit despite Joshua's attempt to shield an attack.)
The anime staff does seem to be getting the hang of more visually interesting fight scenes. Never thought the CG was bad-looking throughout the whole show or anything, but... I kinda appreciate the extra-noticeable effort in the past few episodes, but it's admittedly kinda too little too late here. At least we do hear some "zetta slow" today.

A bit of a shame that Sho doesn't scream all the digits of pi while he explodes the place and that Joshua doesn't say his exact last lines here, but... well the slow-mo was a nice touch. Sad to see Neku crying though, poor kid doesn't get much of a break. Especially after that part..... god I hope they never adapt that day... y'all Players know what I'm referring to... if they do then I will be forced to lower my score HEAVILY... aagh crap wait that event's not relevant right now

Aaaaaand..... welcome to Week 3, everyone. Stay tuned next week for the reveal of this week's entry fee.

That was a pretty good episode and boy was it packed. I see Minamimoto really zetta loves his numbers. R.I.P. Nao and Sota, we knew it was coming eventually but still pretty sad. I was right, Beat was just being a tsundere and is actually protecting our boy Neku. Also really like Kariya and Yashiro, they're great.

The Minamimoto fight was awesome, the man was pulling of those wryyy poses like a zetta boss. Damn, so Neku was actually caught in a crossfire between Joshua and Minamimoto, curious as to why Minamimoto killed Neku though, Joshua was protecting him. And he protected him again. Neku really getting screwed in this game but hey, third time's the charm. Wonder what his entry fee is this time though.

I think getting Sho's voice actor to scream out Pi to 120ish decimal places might have been a little excessive and too much to handle xD as impressive as it would have been. If your talking A New Day. Its 100% getting adapted. I dont see the big issue with A New Day besides the fact that it was a really stupid and aggravating cliffhanger. But with Neo coming thats probably not as much an issue anymore. The whole day is like a parody on the many OC's and Alt Universes fans made over the years and you know miss who really sells that. The anime is meant to be catch up for Neo so it will definitely be here. Plus one of the official poster arts had the same imagery as the AND ending

Once again the fight with the game master was so, so rushed. Fight started out great, but then they managed to finish it in a sudden one blow. It should have lasted longer.

Shame as the rest of the episode was good and overall the adaptation of this second week was much better than whatever shit they did with Shiki's arc.

Probably the bonus chapter the Switch Port Added 'A New Day' it had some real frustrating gameplay and the story of it was largely unexplained and was left on a huge cliffhanger that kinda screws with the great ending the OG game got. It seemed like a sequel wasnt happening either since Final Remix sold terrible (no thanks to YouTubers jumping on an overblown hate train against the game) though now that NEO is coming, its not as frustrating to be left where is has.

FUCKING WHY???

I don't want to get all pissy about this show again, but they keep trampling over all the iconic moments from the original game for no reason whatsoever. Why didn't Sho yell out Pi when he went sicko mode? I don't care if it would require a few extra takes from Sho's VA. I'm going to overthrow Japanese democracy and pass a law which makes it high treason for Sho's voice actor to not say the numbers of Pi in the 2021 anime adaptation of The World Ends With You, so everyone involved in this production better watch their backs.

It's not just a small bit of dialog which made the ending so disappointing. Not having the episode end ambiguously with Joshua's remark about not giving up really killed my enjoyment. I doesn't matter if they would have to call this episode a little early, it would work way better as a cliffhanger because they could have started the next episode with that cold open to the scramble crossing.

One thing I thought was actually kind of cool about the ending is that Joshua pushing Neku off Pork City actually checks out in the original game. I thought Joshua just used himself as a bodyshield because of how little motion is portrayed through the sprites, but I appreciate the new tidbit of knowledge. I'm also quite happy that we finally got to see some interaction between Sho and the boys. There's been a trend of things I've wanted from this series happening an episode later, so I sure hope they cancel the rest of the series and serialise it as a manga to completely ensure that Square never gets a return on investment.

Okay cool back to disliking this adaptation. I know everyone's exhaustively mentioned how the fight scenes in the anime are disappointing and I think it's finally time I throw in my two cents. I don't think any fight involving psychic or supernatural powers can be engaging because there isn't any weight or stakes to what is happening. Where I think an adaptation of TWEWY can be different is through the use of the light puck and the different plains the characters go to while fighting. There would be a lot of flow and sychrony to each fight if given a little thought, which is something I think may have been done had solo/final remix never come out. They should also get rid of the -2 fps on the CG noise. I'm not sure whether anime studios limit the frames to make the animation look more handrawn or something, but I seriously doubt making the show an eye melting mess is anything other than a stylistic choice.

Anyways, hooray we're onto the third week, which means I'm going to have to pick up the game again soon. I'm looking forward to all the EXP I'm going to get from being away for so long.
