| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- That was a fun start to a new era of Vanguard! I'm intrigued to see where this series goes and whether we'll get more past this first season. It clearly had a different feel from the other series. The fight was tailored more towards people who already know how to play. Makes me wonder if we'll get a tutorial episode with Yu-yu next or if fights will continue to go the way it did this episode. |

| Not much I can say yet, still the first episode. Wondering if they'll make it more slice of life, or if there's an antagonist they're planning to set up. Either way, curious to see where this new era of Vanguard goes. |

| Even with that one 360p stream on youtube that has the ep you could see the big improvement over the other seasons. As for the episode it was fine. More interesting than the first episode of regular CV. Hoping that I see ep 2 in HD. lol |

| As a lover of Vanguard, a series that I jumped to after I stopped watching Yugioh, as Zexal became unbearable for me at the time, so I was pretty hype when I heard an actual new series had come. I'm very pleased on first episode basis. Comedy is alright((Since same joke was played through out, but that's OK.)) The characters all seem great, and the visuals when it comes to not only the playing, but when the Vanguards are doing an intense battle was amazing. Defo for sure looking forward to this every week. |
| Never watched any of the previous series but I saw CLAMP worked on the character designs so I decided to give it a watch, it was really fun. I was a little lost when they started battling but I just read up the basic rules and everything made sense. I'd say it's safe to watch if you never watched it before previously but, you would probably get more enjoyment out of it if you have seen prior seasons and enjoy CCG anime. |
| So, the animation was a huge step up and Danji seems pretty cool, but I gotta say: nothing else appealed at all. Yu-yu seems like worse Aichi and the other 3 main characters made absolutely zero impression. I know we haven't "gotten into" them as characters but initially at least: Megumi is annoying, Touya is some sort of rival character but he exhibited zero personality or true antagonism, and Tomari is gonna play the hot cops deck because she is literally a hot cop. The heavy crossdressing focus combined with CLAMP and Kinema Citrus involvement half makes me think this is gonna be some weird card game / magical girlboy anime which if handled with a deft hand could be really quirky and maybe even touching (if it went into accepting identity). But, uh, no signs of a deft hand this early on. Horny karaoke guy showed up no less than 4 fucking times, they gave this weird asshole more screen time than 2 of the 5 main characters so they could make the same "lol he wants to fuck a guy" joke in the pilot of a card game anime. wat |
| TEN COMMANDMENTS: 1) If Evangelion and Psycho-Pass are his only 10s, he probably also worships Tool and smells like cheesy puffs 2) Freudian psychosis =/= good writing 3) Moe blob art style is only ok in pure slice-of-life comedy 4) It's ok to enjoy shounen. Having fun is allowed 5) It is not ok to enjoy isekai (jk, it is, I just fucking hate it) 6) Creator breakdown =/= good writing 7) A story does not have to be wrapped up with a bow. Life is messy, why would a good story need to be tidy? 8) InuYasha is proto-Twilight 9) Ecchi CAN be good, but is almost always an abomination 10) If God is real, They allowed Super Kid to happen, so fuck Them |
| This is my first cardfight vanguard anime. I'm watching this anime mainly because Shindou Amane is here 😍 But I was greeted by Yuyu who is a cute crossdresser 😍 Perhaps that will make me stay too but it seems it's only episode 1 where he will crossdress 😭 I hope he will do it again in episode 2 !! |
| After reading everyone's posts I love that the general consensus is "lol I have no idea wtf just happened but it was gay and looked good so maybe???" Part of the allure of VG for me was the card fights so I hope that this won't be the style as the episode goes forward. The final turn animation was epic but does it matter if you're lost through 90% of the fight? |
| Oh yeah it makes sense that it's called "overDress" I actually love the crossdressing part I hope it will do it again. |
