Yeah. So the reason acca and ura-acca talked about was that, the fear of death. It wasn't what I expected but it was better than expected. The end gave me shivers. The crocodile didn't deserve this. sky5 said: so from what i've gathered acca and ura-acca are taking advantage of people who have mental problems and get them to do their dirty work. Finishing the thing doesn't seem to revive anything but attract some death god instead? Got that? No? I don't eitheri’m so lost rn lol Mod Edit: Merged duplicated posts; please use the edit button. |

One of the best episodes of the whole show, the ending especially. However, it makes no sense to me the girls, instead of asking more questions to Acca and Ura-Acca about their true motives, they ask Momoe about her date -.-. The ending, however, was disturbing, and I can't help but feel sorry for Momoe, this episode was rough for her. I also see a lot of people calling Kaoru and Momoe a boy. Let's talk about it: First, only women are allowed in the Egg world (stated in previous a episode); Second, Kaoru is obviously a girl, since she got pregnant, her feeling like a boy on the inside has nothing to do with her gender; Third, Momoe's character isn't of a girl who wants to be a boy, is of a girl who has no problem dressing and acting like a boy, yet wants other people to see her as what she is, a girl. |

Fantastic episode! Felt really bad for Momoe when that dude mistook her for a dude, her just laughing it off was painful. Then, I felt happy for her with Kaoru, and then that ending hit me like a fucking truck. I still can't grasp what's fully happening, but death is definitely the main theme here. Even that Thanatos guy Acca and Ura-Acca mentioned, I searched about him and he's a Greek God related to death. So, is Acca and Ura-Acca training these girls to fight Thanatos or some shit, I guess they're not fully evil, but that's still fucked. I am guessing that creepy butterfly head is related to Thanatos. And I think butterflies are also related to death in some cultures. Loved how girls talk was more important than asking Acca and Ura-Acca the important questions though lmao. And this is the most smug face I have ever seen in my life, I love it. Damn, I am glad Sawaki-sensei is actually a good dude unless the next episode changes that lmao, hopefully not. Really looking forward to the next episode, shits going down. |

Loved the focus on Momoe this week! But Jesus Christ did the episode suddenly get dark at the end. I have never wanted an anime to stick the landing more than Wonder Egg at this point. 5/5 |

This is actually getting more and more interesting but there is no way this anime will be complete its plot in two episodes we have left. I'm hoping there's gonna be 2nd season with 12more episodes? And there the anime can focus on the Thanatos and Eros plot rather than the trauma game of the WonderEgg. Let's see |

maybe Momoe is a trans girl, just as Niru is probably an adult. Momoe has a lot of men's clothing even though she prefers women's clothing, it doesn't make sense. But other things are against my theory, like she apparently went to a girls' school. It's a fiction, maybe not everything makes sense |

Figured this was going to be a Momoe episode. And damn was it rough to watch! Ai's teacher comes off a sus groomer who maybe chose her mother as a partner because she reminds him of Ai. Or to be closer to Ai. Anyway my creepy detector was hitting way red alright :o |

Amazing episode with so much going on. Ai's confrontation was something that I really didn't expect this early. Great message with Momoe's fight scene about the importance of accepting trans folks. New antagonist reveal and a hell of a cliffhanger for Momoe and Ai. This was the best episode for me. I also have a theory that Sawaki is secretly a psychopathic pedophile. He likes underage girls but knows it's illegal to date them. His painting of Ai represents his desire for Ai to be legal as it depicts Ai as a adult. It's a stretch for sure though. Sawaki could be a red herring for all we now. |

I want the next episode already.. I really don’t like the teacher.. Why is he painting really ..”nice”.. pictures of his own students? Maybe the school is actually firing him, & that’s why he’s trying to be an artist, lol. I’m very confused on Momoe, but Momoe is probably confused with their own body as well. I hope they find the happiness they deserve. The character they had to fight for in egg-world was so sweet.. I think I picked up on the ending line of “I won’t have a boyfriend until I see you again” line.. I think Momoe is fighting against their own gender identity & even though they say they’re a girl, they’re still not too sure. & they don’t have to decide! Momoe could be non-binary or gender fluid. Maybe Momoe is having this ending because they are technically “finished” with the trial but not really finished finding out their own story? Anyways.. I love this anime so much. I really hope there are 13 episodes since the recap shouldn’t count as one. I thought we had 3 more episodes but the website here hasn’t updated yet. I would even love another season of this. IMO there’s not enough anime for girls/AFAB that tackle real life issues & mental health. |

Absolutely the best episode so far. I loved (FINALLY) some focus on Momo, I think she definitely made herself a part of the main cast, but oh man she needs help now. It's bad enough that her pet died, but also she was forced to eat it, I mean that is something I would think of, never expected it to be in an anime. The Accas don't seem to be the villains anymore, which kinda ruined my theory, but oh well, a man who is never wrong, can't learn for the next time. I just hope the teacher isn't the secret villain, beacause that would be basically Erased ending all over again. The animation this episode was absolutely stunning, no frame looked ugly and the new looks for Neiru, Ai and Momo look very good. Also small thing, but I love how Neiru agreed to go eat ramen with Rikka. I know it's just a small detail, but the developement of these girls honestly make me so happy ;3 Yeah, so I don't know what's gonna happen, but demons(something from Freud) are gonna play a part in that. 10/10 chapter, I'm pretty sad it's ending, but I'm also hyped for it! This series might very well be THE series, that will beat Berserk in my top 5 |

Another amazing episode handled superbly as part of the ongoing story and organically integrated social themes into the broader narrative of the show. Its almost comical watching western comic and cartoon makers attempt to steamroll similar themes into there narratives with zero concept of artful storytelling or creating emotive characters that you actually feel for. |

Was excited to see more action and badassery from momoe.. but now.. momoe go turn to your friends please :( since kaoru is a boy, why is he in the wonder egg girls program then? this placement(error) disappoints me. The dialogue between her and kaoru makes me wonder if she has some sort of (perhaps internalised) homophobia. maybe it's just that too many girls have liked her 'as a boy' that maybe she completely rejects anything else "You don't care if I'm a girl, just like Haruka. She's a girl, but she says she loves me" The way she says it is like she can't believe it. I still get creepy vibes from Sawaki sensei.. like I hope it's not the case, but the way he describes Ai about growing up to be an adult plus painting her as one - it bothers me. also that butterfly monster girl - what a design. Aizawa_IRL said: One of the best episodes of the whole show, the ending especially. Kaoru literally said "I'm a boy"; boys can get pregnant too yknow? You're right that Momoe is definitely a girl though. One of the characters quite literally said that they think they're non-binary, and their character development was based off of them discovering their gender identity (alongside tennis obvs). you don't even see much Western fiction talk about non-binary identities. and then there's also another character's mum's boyfriend too. Momoe has a lot of men's clothing even though she prefers women's clothing, it doesn't make sense. But other things are against my theory, like she apparently went to a girls' school. It's a fiction, maybe not everything makes sense You can still be a girl and prefer men's clothing or go to girls' school and identify as a trans person. Even if we forget about the current trends with trans discourse in Japan, there is still nothing strange about it. Yes, but Momoe prefers women's clothing, at least that's what it looks like. I said she maybe is trans girl, I mean she maybe is biologically a boy I understood, I just want to say that it would be rather strange for a trans girl to deliberately maintain such a masculine appearance. Usually such girls try to look as feminine as possible and Momoe's excellent appearance easily allows her to look hot like a girl. assuming she didn’t make the transition, there are several reasons to wear men's clothing. Like, just not wanting to suffer prejudice when leaving home. I am also considering that her appearance is not necessarily that. Like Niru, who is probably an adult, we only see her as a girl Wait, do you suspect she's a biological boy who wants to be seen as a girl? But the flashbacks showed quite clearly that she had a female body. yes, i suspect the anime doesn't show reality exactly as it is. In fact, the girls are undergoing psychological treatment. Everything is an artistic metaphor That is, in this interpretation, the constant hint that someone may love her, regardless of her gender, is it a metaphor for the fact that she denies her biological gender? But what about the scene where a gay guy mistook her for a guy? there are examples that better contradict my theory about it. In the case of the guy it's simple, he is gay and wants to date a guy, when he saw Momoe wearing a dress he realized that she was a trans. Gays have no interest in trans girls Is it? I'm not gay and I don't know how it works in real life, but trans media are very fond of portraying their love interests as gay and lesbian. Of course, unless the character is in a straight relationship initially and their partner says something like "I will love you regardless of gender." yes, there are many different types of gay people, some like crossdressing, but they have no interest in trans women. There are other interesting things like, there are gays who can't get into a relationship because they are both bottom or both top. Of course, there are many types of interests, there are people who like others regardless of gender, but these people aren't gay So you're saying that a gay will not be attracted to trans straight girl who hasn't made the transition? |

Though, I saw people who found it boring. |

This episode was really good, but the ending was a bit off the rails. Makes more sense now that I've read what some commenters have said about what Thanatos and Eros represent. The creepy scythe lady is still a bit of a mystery. |

The Freudian psychology thing brought up here certainly has me interested. Sounds plausible too since there's plenty Japanese fiction taking heavy inspirations from Freud already. Also I only just now got the whole thing with Momoe's date being a gay guy. That kind of confusion is very real. |

I thought it was interesting that Momoe tears open her shirt and exposes a bra(?) with the trans flag's colors that match the trans boy's jacket. Ultimately, I like the idea of literally defeating transphobia and the end of the fight being one that culminates in the validation of Momoe's gender identity. I'm pretty sure Momoe is a trans girl. The conversation about the name "Momotaro" and the dialogue at the beginning of the series being about her deceased friend accepting her as a *girl* is really significant. I really love this character. The Freudian psychology is really interesting. Butterflies are symbols of life and death, or messengers from the afterlife, so that at least makes some sense as a symbol. But we don't have enough information. What an episode, though. Jesus. |

That poor boy :(. F that kendo teacher, hope he got the karma he deserved. Since its science. I don't think they can revive the people that have suicided. Rip crocodile... Are they just trying to scar the girls lmao with this weird ass project. The teacher is such a creeper. Using time he should help his students to draw them. |

Of course, there are many types of interests, there are people who like others regardless of gender, but these people aren't gay So you're saying that a gay will not be attracted to trans straight girl who hasn't made the transition? inevitably, it depends. if a gay man sees a trans girl, mistakes her for a man, and is attracted to her, well, that's life. if he finds out that she's a girl then maybe he'll lose interest, or maybe he won't. none of that makes him not-gay, just like a straight guy mistaking another man for a woman and being attracted to him doesn't make him any less straight. i don't think the guy who asked her out, kaoru's confession, or any of the girls that have expressed an interest in her have any bearing on her gender. given how brazen* they are depicting kaoru as a trans man, the ambiguity with which they're treating momoe's gender MUST be intentional. like you pointed out, she's shown to have a feminine body, and she wears a bra, but also it's suggested(?) that she has/is developing an adam's apple, and she wears masculine clothes despite wanting to be perceived as a girl, but also she clearly owns feminine clothes and just doesn't wear them except for that one date, and i don't know??! it's hard to tell whether she's intended to be a trans girl half-in the closet and hiding it from her mom, or a cis girl who likes dressing masculine and is struggling with the expectations that society puts on her. i'm not sure which fits the narrative better either. *to me, the trans flag colors on his jacket jumped out immediately. i thought, "oh, that's kind of heavy-handed, isn't it? he already uses boku and dresses halfway between schoolgirl and crossdressing kid detective, is the jacket really needed?" but it seems like that imagery doesn't stick out to everyone, especially people who aren't trans or don't know a lot of trans people. the explicit visual cues are nice, actually. (though it just brings up more questions about momoe, right??!) |
