So, my first time watching this, it was my least favorite episode. Yet, knowing how the series goes, it makes me find a lot of value in the beauty that we see early on. It's always evident how great human nature can be and Kikun and Miko helping each other be confident in who they are and break off the labels society put on them to bloom into butterflies is moving. Especially in perspective with the whole series.

Further, I liked the hypocrisy of Akira being exposed here before but now I found his situation more sympathetic too. I do prefer this in the manga honestly as one of the few parts I do, but I found this special this time. The breakdown of Akira as he can finally catch up with his mom and dad after all this time but only to say a final goodbye. The strength of the father to fight back. Ryou filming to show his intentions more clearly. And of course the rage leading to what's to come and Akira's disregard of demon life just like they disregard human life.. It's.. cool..

By the way I'm rewatching this time in dub and man it isn't the best but I like Kikun and Miko voices a lot. Plus to finally have a rap dubbed was nice!

Kinda hard to feel anything for the parents when we pretty much know nothing about them besides being doctors. The amount of screentime they got doesn't help either.

Oh no. Was Miko just about die right there at the end? Shit.

Yeah the parents thing definitely needed more development. We barely spent anytime on their relationship so hard for me to care.

I'm seriously considering dropping. The pace is awful, not enough time for anything. I hate how everything Netflix touches turns to crap.

I imagine there were severe budget constraints. And the marketing team also reviewed the script. This is why you should let artisans do what they do.

So far I think the 80's OVA is 100% better. Grittier with masterful pacing.

Taro is hilariously cute

Akira’s tears hurt me too...... uwu poor boy

I’m sort of shipping Kuroda with that rapper (damn that rap!), they are kinda cute together but I guess between them someone’s gonna end up dead/turning into a devil. So many death flags lol......shame

but i’ll probably remember over and over again
you were there and everyone else was there

Pretty brutal massacre in the bus in this episode, especially for Akira emotionally in a sense given what he had to see his parents go through. It was definitely rushed since there wasn't really an established emotional connection that he had with his parents in previous episodes and it's not like the anime showed much of actual characterization of his relationship with his parents before his mother got eviscerated by her demon dad, and the events that happened after. Felt a bit hollow at the end because of that lack of fleshing out. It was a solid episode but it definitely could have been better.

Also got some subplot bits between Miko and Mayuta there, the rap to her was pretty sweet not gonna lie. She needed to really hear something like that given the lack of self-confidence she has in herself. The dub does a good job with the rap too.

So these two people decided to have a kid together and then leave it behind to be doctors around the world? And I am supposed to feel bad for them? What a bunch of horrible people.

Miko is a prize catch, Mayuta lucky man to open up her heart. I didn't expect to care about a subplot.

Regarding Akira dad, was it the devil that cut off his head or his dad himself did it?

No, why Akira's parents. 😭

The rapper guy loves Miki (busty girl), she has an inferior complex because she didn't succeed at a track event, but she's working very hard.

Really sad about Akira's parents.

That night club again, another demon.
Anime is fun.

I don't know it will be a tragic moment. RIP Akira's parent. They are a good parent. I feel like this moment will happened when Akira's mom back to Tokyo without his dad. Was a good episode and sad.

It's really softpedaling the conflict from the last episode's cliffhanger. Ryo admited the photographer he killed was human so him talking about how anyone could be a devil shouldn't assuage Akira's anger at the murder. Also pointing a gun at Miki!

Rap dude turns out to be a nice guy. The rap guys from episode 1 always seemed no worse than annoying so I don't know why it had tried to play them as a threat at all.

After not seeing his parents for so long, their reunion has his dad being a demon and consuming his mother and other passengers, damn.
Glad to be seeing more development with Miko the runner and Kukun the rapper. Miko is envious of Miki Makimura as being the Miki. He's noticed the donkey noises lol
Oh no, Kukun takes her to a sabbath party...

I feel the idea that having Akira's parents be lost to the onslaught from the demons as an emotional payoff is a good idea on paper but the problem is that we don't even know what they are like as parents or Akira feels about them as a whole and they are introduced in this episode only to die. Which I feel is a bit of a waste I mean it's sad don't get me wrong that they got killed but again we hardly knew them so there's hardly any impact to them being lost to the demons.

The episode itself? Still enjoyable because we got to see more development for Miko. And it seems she doesn't get much appreciation for efforts because she's always slower than Miki and the latter herself gets all the attention despite the fact that Miko works so hard for the track n field.

And it looks one of the rapper dudes is taking pity on her and even wants to be with her, even going as far as to confess his feelings through rap. Which is odd for the dub because the three raps I've heard so far, have all been un dubbed. But credit where its due, Keith Silverstein was amazing with that one. Who knew he could rap eh? Really hope that rapper dude and Miko don't die in the next episode. Overall a pretty good episode not as good as the other three but pretty good regardless.

Despite being as gory as it was I feel like this episode was weirdly held back somehow? Like when the mom got impaled I immediately thought "I bet that's some kind of dick spike thing" and that was exactly it except they had to somewhat obscure it with the camera angle/bus frame. For how much the show revels in what it is that conflict of censorship felt very jarring.

And again, I can't help but feel like the ugly cheapness of the art style does absolutely nothing for this show other than make it ugly enough to avoid some sort of Adults Only rating that would screw up its distribution. That the violence and sex looks so ugly almost all the time doesn't feel like an artistic choice or anything. From what I've seen of the original manga it actually looks pretty well drawn even if it has a sort Tezuka-ness to the humans. The weird lumpy jaggedness of everything doesn't even look like a serious attempt to be faithful to that. Its just...not good.
