THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Xie Lian as a bride is very beautiful x)
I am pretty impressed with the adaptation so far, it's following the novel quite closely from what I remember, even with some details that I thought they'd skip. The pacing is good too.
Hopefully the whole season will have this amazing quality!

To be honest, I was not expecting the flashbacks that they showed in episode 1. It took me by surprise, and for those who have not read the novel, it's rather confusing. I am still reading it but am already past all they showed, so I was fine.

But yes, the bridal scene was awesome. Here's to hoping they present it in a way where they don't confirm or deny their relationship, so us fans can use our own interpretations. ^^

Wow, I didn't expect it to be that good. Nothing feels rushed and it's visually beautiful.
I haven't read the novel yet but I haven't had any trouble understanding what's going on so there's nothing wrong with the consistency and storytelling and that's... well, looking back at all the donghua and manhua I watched and read - it's rare.

The anime is well done and the characters done beautifully. First I thought that Xie Lian was just a lazy guy but I'm glad that it turned out not to be the case. I'm looking forward where the next episode will take us.

Oh? That's kind of surprising to me since the flashbacks lacked a lot of detail and context even. Particularly the scenes involving Hua Cheng and Xie Lian.

I don't think the "flashback" last ep supposed to be the real flashback for watchers to emotionally invest in characters or it's there to support the story. It's more like a short introduction and the song is foreshadowing some events. I would say, the writer is teasing us and make us guess who the hell that child is and what the hell is this, lmao.

I would actually prefer them to slow down a bit and do world building for ep 1, but I guess they need something thrilling to hook the viewers first (novel readers are probably thirty for HC lmao)

Not sure what donghua-only viewers feel about the adaption but ep 1 may make people confused on the setting with the gods, merit credits, etc...even I would confused on that lol. But the story for now can simplify to "these guys are trying to take down a ghost" so I don't think it's too complicated to understand.

I agree it's not too complicated to understand, but I'll use MDZS as an example since I am a donghua-viewer only for it right now. There were parts that left me confused because they didn't cover enough to make it fully coherent. Won't elaborate since this is not a discussion for that. lol

Perhaps there will be instances of that here too in future episodes, but who knows.

Oh, I was a donghua-only viewer for MDZS too when ss 1 just started lmao and I didn't understand a thing in episode 1, all my impression was ohhh cool fighting spirit, and too tired to bother with character's relationship but they explained later in the ss anyways.

I guess this is going to be the impression of people for TGCF's first ep too then.

Wow either someone accidentally voted for "I hated it" or they're just salty HC is not there, lol.

I think they're doing pretty well so far. I mean ep 2 was mostly focused on their current mission and mostly kept to the novel I think (it's been a while).

I love how you're saying the exact opposite of what other people say. XD
Seems like most people are hella confused. I can't really get into the perspective of people who didn't read the novel. But I'm glad you're not too confused by it so far ☺️

But damn

@Vedrun
Maybe because I'm not new to all this wuxia/xianxia/xianhuan stuff so it was alright. I bet I'd be just as confused if I didn't have any prior knowledge about cultivation, immortals, the three realms, etc. At least I can enjoy watching it without racking my brain, trying to understand what's going on xD

So far so good. The comedy is quite nice, even as it's Chinese, and the story is getting quite interesting.

liked this a lot more than the first episode, it was much better paced and plotted, plus the subtitles weren't as fast, probably cause the characters were talking as fast. Episode 1 was a bit of a cram, but episode 2 is thankfully much more enjoyable

Wow the donghua has 8.71 on Myanimelist now, what a pleasant surprise! Although I do think it's overrated but as a fan I'm happy when this is getting attention.

(Hoping season 2 wouldn't take too long to be produced)

It's just so goddamn pretty to look at. I feel like people aren't talking about the visuals enough. Coupled with the beautiful music, it's even better.

Plot-wise, I think this is more coherent than Mo Dao Zu Shi was two episodes in. I'm kind of used to the subtitles now, they're not great but as I said in my post for the last episode, you can't blame the donghua for that. As for the speed, well - I'm a big Monogatari fan and they're not as quick as that so I'm coping okay with it.

I'm tempted to go read the book, but I think I'll wait till the anime is finished to pick it up.

Me too XD
So I googled what immor is and apparently, it also is slang for "I Make My Own Rules".
Which... works? So now I can't tell if it was intentional or not.

I dunno if you read the novel but (as far as I Remember) the story about his ascension and demotion is quite long and spoiler heavy and would drop some heavy bombs right at the start.
Not a smart move.

Except for the timing of the flashback in EP 1, everything stayed mostly true to the novel I think.

**mildy spoilery**

Hua Cheng voice over: "Long ago... the Kingdom of Xian Le lived in harmony. Then everything changed when the human face disease attacked. The people thought only the Flower-Crowned Martial God, his Highness Xie Lian, could save them. But when they needed him most... he was banished from the Heavens.

800 years passed and Xie Lian wandered the mortal realm, ascending again then being banished again. He spent his days aftward collecting scraps and busking on the streets. No one expected he would ascend a third time.

Although his spiritual powers are sealed...

...I believe Xie Lian can save the world!"

It's continuing to be more interesting.

That bald head is so annoying, and he really looks like Connie XD

The plot is easy to understand but the only problem I'm having is keeping up with the names, they're so difficult to remember...

I wish the subtitles were a little bigger, they already disappear too quickly and the size of it just makes it more troublesome.

Well as someone who hasnt read the source its very rushed and confusing.. a lot of context feels missing for me but that may clear up soon probably its just to keep you watching giving hints.

The visuals are great and the action scenes better too. So far im not really hooked like i have with other series but its not so boring that i would drop. Am at 6-7/10 atm .. but i always watch until the end if theres a glimpse it gets good. The source is probably less confusing and better to follow :)

nah. step down from the first episode. this girl/woman who keeps getting in the way but hiding the real truth is annoying af. she's ruining it for me. maybe the ghost groom (who we now know is a bride) is the betrothed to the ruler of that city from the first episode?
