And thats the last of the batch that aired on Netflix. Looks like this is going to air on an arc base. This leaves me wanting more!

Hmm, while the first episode was wellanimated the later episodes are somehow inconsistent.

Also the story is all over the place and that not in a good sense, hmm...

All in all i would say the first five episodes in a whole are jus barely average, nothing special besides the good animation in episode1.

Expected more after netflix advertised this so hard, guess itll another failure like canon busters.

All five episodes had consistent animation and backgrounds and the story and plot was straightforward and easy to follow even without subs. What show did you watch?

wow, such a great finale to wrap things up. they haven't really explained how they faked their deaths. since there was so much fake blood, they couldn't be packed with fake blood under their clothing, but oh well

not sure what exact movie series it reminds me of, was it Ocean's fim series or something else it's more like Lucky Number Slevin, but it gives off similar vibes. look forward to the next big scheme, especially with that kind of ending. wonder what that was about

the score is so wrong lmao thoose 5 episodes were great, hope this show will develope main character more. russian fan dubs faster than any subs is scary lol. The deaths almost got me Jebaited. Animation didn't bother me, and i think it's pretty good, only bad thing is thoose 3D cars. Art style reminds me old good gainax, or trigger with better colour choises

Where can i find it?

Either Netflix Japan, watch it online somewhere, or pirate it, none of which are subbed. If you want subs then either pray that someone picks it up or wait a few months until it gets released internationally. Now please stop spamming every thread with the same question.

With all the plans made in preparation, Edamura starts his endeavor to "trick or be tricked". The fight against "Police and Thief" rests heavily on his shoulders for a start.

But as things begin going shrewd, the plot twist arrives to send all of them packing. As expected of the "This is America" formula, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING is corrupt to the core, and Edamura ended up being the ultimate loser, taken in for a ride the ENTIRE time.

So, everything is FAKE, and it was a damn clever and elaborate play I'd ever seen (even I got tricked, which was a good time).

With Eddie Cassano out of the picture, the Laurent Theirry gang is well and alive, and the motives clear.

Damn, these 5 episodes in a binge was just magnificent, but of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg. A decent start, I suppose when it comes to the case. With this, LA is conquered as the very 1st case.

Ready for the next case of another 5 episodes, bring it on! The 2nd case / Stage 2 of the conmen strategy takes place in mah home country, Singapore! An air race...interesting.

That plot twist when it happened didn't really have me too shocked as I knew they would pretend to be dead, I mean given the type of show, there was only a slim chance of it happening in the first 5 episodes.

Regardless, fine episode again. Nice to see Masato give the money that way and the case did have a solid end. Paula's definitely my favorite character so far (and the only one so far I kind of like, others are still in that purgatory zone).

Overall for the first 5 episodes, I'd give them a 5-5.5. The case had a very sluggish middle with not being interesting whatsoever and the music was too much, but the visuals were constantly colorful, vibrant and full of personality and I did like the end to the case more than the beginning and middle. Definitely felt stretched out and could be more compact to a fewer episodes like 4, but that isn't too much of an issue for me.

It's an average start but I do expect a case to be better and more interesting from here on out since this was just essentially like a starter case for me to get used to some of the cast and the chaos of the world itself.

Honestly, it had kind of a rough start but a good ending to the first case, I am not a fan of Laurent and Abigale, but I like Paula the most out of all of them.

7/10 For the first case, and it is a great series to binge rather than a weekly wait.

I agree with Paula/Cynthia being the best out of the 3 conmen. I wish they explained how Laurent and Abigail managed to fake their deaths, they just glossed over it. Ig the conmen are some type of vigilante cops, which makes sense because Laurent says he only cons people who deserve it. Case 1 was pretty nice overall, I'm glad the bodyguard and his son will be able to live their lives freely now. Case 2 should be after the 3-4 yr timeskip since Makoto wanted them to wait for him, but he looks exactly the same in that case 2 preview picture lol. We'll have to wait and see since the case drops tomorrow in JPN Netflix. Overall I give this case a 6.5-7, looking forward to case 2.

I was already on board with this series from the first PVs, and now after the first arc concluded I'm hooked.

Looks like it's becoming quite popular, sub groups are picking it up so the next arc is probably going to be easier to find when it drops in Japan.

Really liked it so far, there were some boring moments but this last episode was a complete blast, it was obvious that the other characters are still alive somehow but the Cynthia and FBI plot twist came out of nowhere for me.

Overall I give this case a 7.5.

100% agree. The episodes really worked with it’s story. I don’t normally watch subbed, because I like dubbed more, but this sub was really good. It’s easy to follow, with a great plot and animation.

A fine start to the series.I didn't expect the whole FBI to be con-men.But LAPD sure is dumb. They didn't even bother to check the real Paula Dickens.Cynthia and real Dickens doesn't even look the same.I find it a bit inconsistent.Still an enjoyable show.

I've to say that I didn't realized FBI is fake until they shoot Abby and Laurent, which is quite slow compare to other people's deduction.

Very good ending for Salazar, I kinda hope he join the great pretender so I can see him more but I guess he want a clean life for his son. He's such a DILF!!!!

So Laurent had this all in the bag from the very beginning huh? When I saw he and Abby shot, I knew something had to be up. Either they knew the FBI was coming and prepared accordingly, or something to that effect. When Paula, or Cynthia, agreed to being paid off, I honestly thought she may be just another conman in the game that could be a rival to Laurent, not a partner.

But in the end, everything worked out for the best. Everyone is alive, they squeezed every last cent out of Cassano who is going to jail, Salazar gets to have a life with his son, and everyone is rich. Really satisfying overall.

The real twist for me was Edamura deciding to go back to Japan and confess. It looks like he wants to join with Laurent, but he first wants to pay for his crime of stealing money from innocent people. Once that sentence has be served, he'll join Laurent and start taking money from those who deserve it.

Really nice start to this show. The only thing I'd like more of is some development between the characters, which I think we'll start getting in this next arc. Can't wait to see more.

Great first arc! It was super incredibly predictable though lol. Still enjoyable enough for me not to be annoyed by it.

Laurent and Abby getting killed wasn't convincing at all. From episode 4, I had a feeling Paula/Cynthia would be working with Laurent. It would have been a waste of her character if she really was with the FBI and only used in this first arc.

Felt pretty bad for Edaname-kun thoug. Almost gets blown up, gets nearly beaten to death with a traffic cone, and had to go through the trauma of seeing Laurent and Abby get "killed" plus thinking Cassano got away scott-free. He's really the only character to have gotten much development, im kinda indifferent towards the others right now, hopefully their characters get more fleshed out.

So I'm guessing the next arc set in Singapore will be a time skip? The only un-predictable ting about this episode was Edaname-kun turning himself into the police. SO I guess he's going to prison for a few years?

Yet if he joins Laurent and co. again, wouldn't he just be returning to a life of crime? Laurent and co. may be these vigilantes going after super-bad guys, but they are still technically criminals. So I'm curious what Edaname-kun's motive will be to want to rejoin Laurent and co.

Opinions still need to be backed up by substancial evidence, wich you failed to provide.

Also the story is all over the place and that not in a good sense, hmm...

How so? the first 2 episodes focused heavily in Edamura and how he got messed up in a bigger con-artist scheme he would never dream of pulling out in Japan. Episodes 3 & 4 gave a clear background of who he was and his roots (mom and dad) and who he aims to be. All of this is essential to create a strong foundation of a main character. Not to mention that before episode 5, antagonists like Salazar & Cassano had their time to show the audience their background story too, wich also makes them a bit more complete rather than just portray them as mustache twirling villian cartoons.

Hmm, while the first episode was wellanimated the later episodes are somehow inconsistent.

First episodes are always better animated because they are the hook for a new audience. Except for a few shows like One Punch Man or FLCL that were OVAs, most TV series can't handle amazing animation from episode 1 til the end of it. Out of the 5 episodes of Great Pretender only episode 2 had more static shots and panning shots in comparisson to the other episodes, but it still falls under regular consistency in terms of animation.

Expected more after netflix advertised this so hard, guess itll another failure like canon busters.

Cannon Busters was a fail from the very beginning because it used a watered down formula that Trigun had used decades ago, but this time it had rather weak and annoying characters and motivations, in a less interesting and less fun sci/fi western sceneario.

Great Pretender is doing something a lot more fresh that feels more unique in anime, but at the same time has more references to western culture, wich makes it more appealing to those of us that are tired of watching japanese characters doing the same ol japanese customs.
