Ah, Myne is taking on a big responsibility again for being in charge of the ceremony.

Looks like the orphanage kids are getting along well with their roles to take care of each other. Ferdinand in that knight armor though...now that's something you don't see too often everyday.

While Myne is absent from the Harvest Festival (due to obvious reasons), the magic ceremony is one of burden that Head Priest Ferdinand has bestowed upon her (because of the Devouring and its immense use of mana).

Obviously, that wouldn't be a best fit for Turi and her family (of her past flailing health records), but a compromise is a compromise, she has not only herself to fend for, but the children of the orphanage also under her tutelage. And therefore, the decision to stay in the temple it is.

A knights' request HUH. With Myne the ONLY blue-robed noble available (because Ferdinand has to process it in nobility fashion: a knight in shining armor), time is of the essence, even for the grey robes that understand the seriousness of the situation (whilst the latter is bombarded all at once). Heh, Myne just can't keep her "surprised Pikachu" state at all things new.

The knight ceremony though, even if it's fantasy, it just feels realistic in its technicality...and it's annoucement...to defeat a Torombe tree (of which Myne has some experience with it). But somebody is ready to trample all that...is it time yet?

Only 2 episodes left, how to wrap all of this up?

“You filthy pleb” holy shit Ferdinand savage

Maine’s ceremonial dress is so cutee

Looks like we’ve got a set up going on. The one knight gave it away that something was up with how he stared at Maine when meeting her. What a cliffhanger to end on, no one better harm Maine or we riot.

Love this week’s ED card This series has some of the best art I’ve seen in a LN. Two more eps to go!

I love how Maine perfectly describe this episode as "What's with all these fantasy tropes, is this turbelent fantasy!"

A bookworm like Maine must have read many fantasy books, and this episode reminds me of the first Harry Potter book, when Harry was surprised by magic activities but no wizards have a time to explain to him what is what.

Now we know why Main's idea to mass-produce trombe for paper was refused... That thing is pretty scary once fully grown...

Really looking forward for next episode.

Main is right, we're heading deep into some fantasy tropes now. We've has mana and magical items to some extent but now we're in full on fantasy land! I wasn't sure at the beginning of the episode how her family would react to Main having to stay all winter at the cathedral. But she smoothed it over well enough. Glad that her while family is helping out with the orphanage now. That makes me happy they won't be separated for so long. All the preparations for winter done and some new supplies gathered.

Really got moving when Main was told about the knights order. Been excited to see these knights since the trailer for season two so this episode delivered finally. Going after a nasty trombe run rampant. Who knew they could get that bad, we've only seen itty bitty ones when Main needs paper material. She should have a lot after this but first gotta deal with it. The magical transforming beasts were awesome! That was really cool. Ferdinand constantly scolding Main about her reactions but I had the same faces she did. So much fantasy in the noble district! Very sweet when she offered the knights her blessings, hope it doesn't go bad.

Not really, she need small branches for her paper. A big trunk won't work. Remember how she didn't want the trunk part her dad cut in first season, instead going for the small branches that were cut by the kids.
So this enormous trombe isn't that good for making paper.

This episode has turned into a fantas- no wait, it was already a fantasy... but now even more!! Suddenly all of the magic out of nowhere! Also that big trombe looks dangerous for the knights and what's with that cliffhanger again? Why you telling an apprentice priestess that the blessings were meaningless? And what's with that smug?!

We knew it wouldn't sit well with Myne's father, Gunther, that she will have to spend the entire winter at the church. Luckily, Myne was able to convince her.

Myne looks good with that dress.

That ending tho...

This episode with the scene of Ferdinand, the wand and that bird, made me feel I was watching a Harry Potter movie.
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.
Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End

I figure I must have read a fantasy novel at some point with a major class divide based on those who have magic and those who don't, but that divide certainly is stark in this world! I'm also assuming that magic has significant applications in combat, otherwise I don't think the nobles would be quite so indifferent to the plight on commoners with the Devouring (if magic is just a nice tool, why refuse a good fuel source, but if it's good for combat, you don't want people with divided loyalty in your ranks.)
Every day you can read a book or watch some anime is a good day!

The anime quite clearly decided to represent the inner state rather than proper outward appearance - there are even quite a few clear cut cases of thoughts turned into spoken lines.

The feeling I got from watching this episode is of when you get timeskip in anime ,and all the characters have these cool badass power upgrades
like that much is shown new in the magical system of the series
Up untill now the magic items that were shown like are nothing compared to the this episodes.
Watching whole episode I also have expression like mine
And really
Who (what is his status) is Ferdinand ? Whole knight order is bowing to him I don't think that's cause he is head priest

Another episode with much glossing over of detail from the LN fortunately nothing major cut out though. I think in LN the other priests are still dealing with harvest festival - that's why Myne has to do the ritual.

It's also explained that the magical beasts are magic stones powered by channelling Nobles mana into them and why they are different beasts. There's no buildup in the LN, it goes from the magical message bird straight to the beasts in the noble section (although Ferdinand explains how transforming the yellow stone into a carrier pigeon works to Myne).

I can't be the only one to think the big Trombe is like the "Whomping Willow" from harry potter.

Shit's going to get real next episode....

They skipped a lot of explanation over the significance of the door to the noble section and how it's like a completely different country behind the door (cleanliness, air quality etc...).

That's quite a lot to take in again for Myne. Had to remember prayers and sttuff, but still doesn't quite act like a noble! Love how Ferdinand mentioned that her "plebian" was showing, can't blame her!!! I would be too!!

The door to the noble section is quite surprising, it really is like a whole other world!! Ferdinand in his shining armour was pretty cool!

Oh lord, those knights that got left behind to protect Myne.... atleast one of them is gonna be a troublemaker... I swear, Nobles are a royal pain in the ass!! I wonder what will happen there!

Myne really acts like she was born yesterday and never had to function in a previous world with knowledge on how to be socially acceptable... supposedly she read lots of books in her past-life but none of the relevant knowledge about how to adult remained with her... she just knows random crafts, book making and food recipes. It really got under my skin how she went "woaaaah wooaaaah WOOWWW OHHHH" at every.single.thing in this episode. Does she not know how to use her inside voice? Her reactions, comportment and facial expressions are all so immature I really don't get what was the point of saying she has the experiences of an adult in her previous life because it all got partially transferred to her.

As I said above, the anime deliberately turned a number of thoughts into actual spoken replicas, dialing the outward reactions up to 11. In the book she is at least trying to behave properly, e.g. when the ring activated unexpectedly she was surprised on the inside, but didn't actually say anything and acted as if that was supposed to happen.

The execution of this episode left something to be desired. The choice of music in quite a few scenes (especially the one with the magical bird message) was cometely unfitting and whoever thought that it would be a good idea to let Main react outwards and say what she said which were simply her inner thoughts in the book was dead wrong. This is the first time where Main ended up sounding like some immature uneducated country bumpkin. If that was the goal - congratations. Job accomplished.

That said, I loved that we finally met Karstedt and Ferdinand looked good in his suit of armor.

What a fantastical episode! Cute dress, tons of magic and the blessings are more than just empty words. But I must say I am getting slightly annoyed by Myne's behaviour. She uses so much of her time to read but everything must be explained and taught to her the hard way or seconds before something actually happens. Very convenient from a story stelling perspective but it is getting really tedious.

This is because, unlike the source material, an anime cannot easily depict all that is on the mind of the character, so there was a lot of inner thought which were in this adaptation transformed into Main's talking out loud, or other explaining to her. Which makes her look like much more dumb than she really is in the novel.

That explains a lot! I do get why they did this throughout season 1 but by now it is just too many 'Behave more like a noble.' comments by Ferdinand. But your comment really made me interested into the LN.

You really should read it. There is a ton of things which were cut from the books, including what happens with secondary character (Tuli, Lutz, Benno) and some parts which IMHO didn't give justice to the source material in this second season.

It's well worth tracking down a translated LN - I've got J-Novel club LN01-05 which covers Season 1 and all of season 2 assuming they adapt the last four chapters into episodes 11 & 12 (I can't see why they wouldn't with the end of episode 12 being the Epilogue).

They have cut out so much in this season it really makes it look like everything drops into her lap with little on no effort, it skips over how bad the orphanage was and how much it upset her, it glosses over what she's done for her retainers and what it means for the female ones specifically, skips business information with Benno and tradesmen and religious & political information on the church and nobles. Lots more character building for Tuli, Lutz etc...

They've also made her look stupid and childish at times by vocalising inner thoughts, this was particularly bad in the last two episodes, they haven't highlighted that she could be executed at any time if the high-ups decide she's dangerous - it was only hinted at a couple of episodes back so the weight of having to act like a noble is lost, making Ferdinand's & the retainers constant nagging seem less important.

If you shop around they can be found cheaply enough in e-book formats - they're also available on other sites but you should support the author by buying it.

Wowowowwww, Ferdinand,
HELLO? My heart wasn't ready, he looks h.o.t af.

Main's super cute in her dress too :3

Finally some more fantasy ! What we saw here contrast a lot with the series so far, seeing nobilities homes, knights, magical creatures and so on.

I know they don't have any other blue robes available but that's still lots of responsibilities upon lil Main. And her taking her role as the orphanage director very seriously pleased me, the children are in good care.

The episode went by so fast... When it ended I was like WHAT? But I started the ep 10min ago ! but nop :(

Ferdinand as a knight and everyone bowing to him, he sure is a huge mystery. Makes me wanna dig the Web novel after the anime ends because I'm sure we'll be left with more questions than answers as usual.

World building continues to be surreal and excellent whenever they decided to expand on it, i was getting a tad bit bored with the church affairs, great change of pace this. When they initially mentioned raid i thought they might be attacking a neighboring country or something, this is closer to home i suppose.

Happy to hear this because I was legitimately getting annoyed with her this episode.

Like, Ferdinand literally spent half the season explaining that nobles are dangerous, and she needs to watch how she speaks and acts. We saw how her family literally almost got completely railroaded by the High Priest for just being commoners last season.

They even explained how they were going into the noble's part of town and how she needed to act noble before she even got there, and yet the whole episode...

It's just annoying because she doesn't seem to take it seriously when we know most nobles look down on her and would gladly try and "put her in her place". Just makes her seem immature. As if she doesn't understand the extent and importance of societal relationships, which completely defeats the purpose of her supposedly being an educated adult in a child's body.

That was also my problem! Either Main genuinely doesn't understand or doesn't want to understand her place in this particular society but it still does not explain why she acted like a really dumb teenage brat, which she really isn't. So far, she has been knowledgeable Urano suck in the body of a child named Main, which is totally fine by me. Thing is, someone like Urano would not behave the way Main did in this episode.

So the knights basically needed a healer and Mayne was qualified or just the only one available. The prayers she had to memorize was probably to cast healing spells and buffs. Ferdinand seems like a high ranking Paladin (knight+priest). The knight tasked to guard her said she wasted an unnecessary blessing probably because she might have cast "heal" on everyone when the fight with the giant tree hasn't even happened.

Part of this was already answered in the episode. They brought Main not as a healer for the knights, but for a ritual to "heal" the land. If you look at the trombe, you can see the ground is devoid of life. That's also what Lutz told us in season 1, a trombe grows by absorbing all the energy in the ground. So the ritual will be to revitalize the ground, once the trombe is killed. Ferdinand even clearly said that. If she had been brought as a healer for the fight, they wouldn't leave her behind while they go fighting... ;)
As for Main's blessing, she asked for a blessing from the God of War, not from a healing god. From the god invoked, and Main's words, it's clear the blessing should either grant them a better resistance, or damage against the enemy.

I still really love this show but I definitely prefer the more slice of life, book-making, day-to-day running of the orphanage stuff that the high fantasy mana stuff so this wasn't my favourite episode. Myne is still precious though. I hope we get to see what she does with her glue making and her letter press. I'm way more interested in that the knights stuff.
