Dude, I hated this season, I hated this writing... Watching the first episodes of every season I think "Hmm...This is pretty good so far. I hope author won't fuck it up this time" and every time he does. Kawahara is like a king of wasted potential. I really don't know if its an adaptation issue that even with good premise and good characters a story still ended up orbiting around Kirito and Kirito still ended up being unrelatable ex Machina . I never watched a season of SAO not feeling like I wasted my time and every time I feel legitimately upset at the story. Yet I keep watching... I might have an autism...

While usually I would agree that anime probably is not on par with novel at all and the source material is much better, but it really wasn't the issue for me. It was the way where the story was going is what ruined it for me. It felt for me that Eugeo hasn't achieved his literally only goal and the whole meaning of his existence has come down to transforming into badly animated CGI flying sword and dying in the lamest way possible just so Kirito had yet another reason to keep fighting *YAY SO COOL(not really)* and giving Kirito a cool red sword to fight Quinella with. How many times did Kawahara killed of the characters in the similar fasion at this point btw? If this not a sign of shit writter I don't know what is. All that thing with Tiese led nowhere as well. I could keep rambling but I think it's obvious I'm not an native english speaker and it's not that easy for me. And If anyone got this far into the series they obviously really like the show *and for some reason me* so what is the point. I just really wanted to let my frustration out.

the anime miss out some context but its passable and dont just judge when you not read the LN. The LN give it details and the forum discussion here. So your assumption is not true.

I thought this was it. Kawahara Reki finally figured it out. Alicization had everything you could possibly want as a setup: a new world for Kirito to explore, a much more focused set of companions (at least as compared to a silly harem and two pathetic bros) with a good history to explore, a cool battle system where imagination can create miracles, and a formidable challenge that awaits them at the top.

And no joke, Kawahara fucks it up the same way he did Aincrad: by completely short-circuiting his own plot for no apparent gains. In Aincrad it was discovering Heathcliff's identity. In Alicization it's going straight from academy to fighting Administrator. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is what made the first half of this season so charming all pretty much went out the window by the second half as we sort of went from one asspull to another. I'm still going to look forward to season 2, but damn did my hype for Alicization go down a ditch in the final handful of episodes this season.

Read the books if your going to blame Kawahara which you obviously have not not. He’s non existent here. They ruined the adaptation.

Oh lord what a finale! WTF is going on in the real world?! Also does that end scene mean Asuna is gonna be in part 2? Eugeo's death made me cry so much! He was such a sweet and caring person and that bitch killed him! I found the final battle so disappointing though cause after all that Kirito didn't even kill her... that ugly ass clown thing did haha

This game concept that Kikuoka has created is fucking evil; he's essentially created another world and just kinda left it to fuck up. Also how does he find it morally okay to create beings that think and feel like a normal person but still treat them like an NPC? It's also not fair for the player because they become emotionally attached so a person that doesn't really exist... so many ethical issues here!

Sorry for the long post... hahaha

-That episode was a mess. Eugeo "dies", but it turns out he's still alive and is somehow able to create a sword for Kirito, who then suddenly musters the power out of nowhere to defeat Quinella in a head to head duel (wtf the hair attack?). Eugeo remarkably still remains alive just long enough in order to have the "proper" and sentimental sendoff. I haven't read the LN so I'm not certain if this is the plot's fault or if the anime adaptation had omitted too many things that were supposed to set all of this up.

-Quinella attempts to ascend into some sort of Heaven, but her demon (which basically by allowing to be in such a high level of authority represents her evil nature and propensity for "sin") dragged her down into the fiery Hell that she deserved. But it was rather rapey, and also he's still alive wat...

-RIP Eugeo. Buuuut he's data right? Maybe everyone is archived somewhere, and after Jesus Kirito and his army triumph in the apocalyptic battle against the Devil and his Dark Territory minions, every person who has ever existed will have their data used to resurrect them and subsequently judged to determine if they are worthy of being ported over to the new world after the Rath God conducts a reset. jesus Kirito and his future-bride will watch over this world in glory. -Not-Book of Revelations

-The original Alice appears to have died as well. The scene where Eugeo became a kid again and held hands with Alice as they entered the doors of the afterlife was T_T T_T

-But seriously, after Kikuoka is dealt with what will they do with the people of Underworld? This game can't be run indefinitely.

-At last, Asuna enters the game. We all knew it'd happen, but it was just a matter of when. Many questions regarding what exactly is happening in the real world.

Best SAO season yet. While I can't attest to the LNs, anime-wise Aliczation is on a different level compared to Aincrad and GGO. In comparison, it touches more themes, has improved characterization, contains more layers by weaving in elements of politics/religion/mystery/ethics, has more at stake, and feels grander in both the game and in the real world. That being said, there were still more instances of plot conveniences (or botched areas of adaptation?) than I'd prefer, some of the characters could have had more development/complexity shown, and the last quarter of the show seemed to lose steam with numerous anticipated scenes coming off as anticlimatic or awkwardly contrived.

Hyped for War of the Underworld!

Beginning: 8/10
Rising: 7/10
Uniting: 6/10

Overall Rating: 8/10

I totally agree. This just didnt Feeel like an SAO season. For me I liiked all the episodes that took place in teh real world. and teh whole Alice line was pretty interest along w/ the whole what is a soul, sub-text. but Overall I hated this. people argued that "Oh The whole point of this is its about saving Alice" well when did she get her memory back? huh? kirito killed the main villian but Alice is still a soldier w/ no former memories.
and my god the main villian just seemed like a pain in the butt w/ a god complex.
and to top it off they end it on a cliff hangar

OK, so there is a difference between this sao and the other seasons. I describe this season to be more of an uproar in the show than anything else . The best part was how it showed kirito defeat quinella, however falling to his knees in defeat. Something that I wanted to understand is what message alicization was trying to give, and it gave it to me. Kirito was always the big hero in the other seasons but this season was showing how that hero falls and the other characters pick up pieces and step forth. I'm not a big fan of sao, but I still wanted something like this from it as a new change and twist. It was unexpected, and breathtaking at the same time. I'm not necessarily excited for the next season, but I do have interest.

I felt when I saw Quinella in her spiritual spatial form shortly after she disappeared, she was more at peace with herself than when she was physically in the Underworld. Still thinking about her world though..? Like that world was meant only for her to love and vice versa? Maybe she wanted to be worthy of that world so she became Administrator. I felt like the Underworld corrupted her soul because of the humane emotions that fed and was embedded in her system. Seeing that made me feel like she loved her world too strongly that in the physical realm her love for that world made her in turn twisted because she was only thinking of her sole emotions of her world. I don't know it's kind of confusing. But that's just what I'm thinking, not saying I'm right or anything like that. Just a thought.

But I thought this season was good! I like the art and the music is beautiful. I love the new characters that were introduced too. Eugeo is my favorite now lol. That cliff hanger though! I can't wait to see the next season! =)

The way things ended for quinella was awfully familiar. Anyone remember the ending from fullmetal alchemist (the original) with Dante & gluttony? Seems pretty similar right, where in fma dante was going up an elevator and got consumed by gluttony 🤔. Personally I like how they created quinella and hope by some miracle they find a way to bring her back in the other world. Dont like how they kept bringing eugeo back to life smh. This season could've been a lot better.

This arc was okay felt a bit boring from time to time. I personally prefer the more RPG focused SAO. I liked the bromance but too bad they killed Eugeo. I guess things are going to become interesting in a good way since the administrator is no more and Asuna shows up. Well we will find out in the next season.

I really tried to like it, but as a sequel to the other SAO arcs, this was just a huge disappointment. I couldn't care less about any of the characters introduced in this season (who I won't have a hard time forgetting), and it either felt like everything was being forced down my throat at once or nothing was happening at all.

When characters started talking about the lore of (whatever the new virtual world was called, can't even remember) it felt like it was being read to me from the sword art wiki page. The formula for the later episodes was almost exactly as follower: info dump, fight, info dump, plot twist that was predicted ten episodes ago, rinse and repeat.

I'm not saying it was all bad. The first few episodes set everything up pretty nicely, even if it was all downhill from there. The animation was pretty good and the score was even more so (I've ended up using a lot of it for my D&D games).

I doubt I'll watch the next part of this arc, with the cliffhanger they left us it looks to me like things are going to get worse before they get better.

4/10

Pretty much.

Kawahara likes info dumps. I don't. Which is why 3-11 was pretty great. Lots of world building done through actual progression. This season had everything set up for another season 1, but then the second arc happen and the show decided to just tell us everything.

The info dump episode (which you can honestly skip and get the gist of it) ruined the entire show. Like how crazy would it be if Kirito slowly learned of the memory wiping done? What if the admin wasn't some unrealistic bad guy? There was no end justifies the means here. It was just a bad guy got admin privileges over the world.

So, Eugeo is dead in the end. I'm going to miss u. Quinella is dead too but she was killed by the clown. What a funny twist lol. This season ended with a cliffhanger but War of Underworld begins in a few days at least. RIP young Alice too.

It's rare to see a show where the third season is much better than S1 and S2. I was worried cuz the movie was very average even by SAO standards.

New characters + the writing is levels above the previous seasons. So, 9/10 for the anime.

Hmm... not really fan of this episode... too much revivals of dead people, several times in row before they were finally dead, also Kirito is invincible again and deus ex machina was strong with the ultimate weapon Eugeo gave him. Also Administrator always fails to act when other characters are talking - realistically they would be all dead sooner than later.

But I'm more bothered by the fact that Kirito lived there for 10 years in row - he wouldn't be used to real word now and old memories would pale in the light of the recent one. He would be totally broken after all of this, PTSD or whatnot at best if he ever returns back. Knowing that his life is in danger IRL doesn't give him any more peace of mind.

Now I get what they are trying to do, bring Alice and her weapon skills to the real life to fight those soldiers back (really wondering why it has to be her specifically though, plot convenience?) All that shooting on the ship was also needless addition out of reality for sake of instant drama. But even if they accelerate the time again by 1000 times, those few minutes they have IRL wouldn't give them enough time in the game world to travel anywhere, 7 days at best (1min IRL = 0.7days there). Can there really achieve something and mobilize whole world against the Dark territory in such short time?

Why have Kirito never thinking about why he is there for so long? Has he stopped caring about outside world perhaps (the most probable answer). But isn't he already addicted to this world then - would he even able to live without it? And is the brain even able to process things 1000x faster?

There were certainly some good ideas in this series and I liked the characters and mature themes too but the logic and laws of the world were bent too much to my taste, to the point it became unrealistic at which point I stopped caring about it alltogether. Only the first four episodes were really great, the rest was just random quality (sometimes good, sometimes dragged and sometimes bad) with plot not really challenging the implications of the overall premise.

6/10 Not the worst SAO arc but certainly not the best.

A shame about Eugeo. He was a good character. Rest in peace. Poignant that he leaves the world with the young Alice, a vestige of the current Alice's forgotten memories. Really sad ending, overall; what with Eugeo, Cardinal, and even the little spider's death. I liked Cardinal. And Alice's old memories being rewritten is also very sad and cruel. To that end, I'd say Quinella was a good villain. She certainly had an impact. It's too bad her death was kind of stupid, though.

Alicization isn't completely over yet, so I'll leave my full thoughts until the entire thing is finished. Otherwise, Mother's Rosario is still my favorite arc.

Rest in peace Eugeo, you were a great character, compared to all the characters in this show.

OP/Aincrad Kirito is back, only for a couple of seconds though.

The real hero of this show is censorship! That hair is doing an outstanding job blocking the nips.

The ending, those guys look similar to the one they fought in GGO in the first episode. Looks like Kirito's brain has been damaged due to the surge they mentioned. It's time for Alice to carry Kirito.

Anyway, great season, way better than the previous two. This is what Aincrad should've been. Pacing is just right. Even though there was a lot of talking, I was never bored. Side characters were great as well, not as uninteresting as Asuna here. Two great OP and ED, as expected from SAO. Way better than expected, so good job A-1. 8/10.

Once again I wish the arcs would have been switched somehow and Quinella would have been there at the very end.
Im curious how she would react once she grasps her struggle is futile. Like sword golems arent stopping anyone from cutting the power. Maybe thats what the robot from the beginning is for?
I really really like her character, especially as a villain. You could even say she got a bit "mad" once she properly learned that she is basically living in a simulation.
Cant blame her for not giving a fuck after that. And apparently she had a way to escape to the real world too.
Its a shame she ultimately got destroyed by that clown. Why does that thing even exist.

Something about Alicization just doesnt feel thought out to me, maybe because Im not sure what was implemented by Rath and whats Quinellas doing. What was on purpose and what was the traitors fault.
Just like this finale episode (which I actually forgot to watch the first time) the Quinella fight was like 10 seconds, way too short. Kirito saying goodbye to Eugeo and his Alice was on point though. And then the narrative shifts to the outside again. Bit of a mess.

The first time around I liked Alice way more than Eugeo but now I really appreciate his character. This sucks. Cause you know Alice is there for War of the Underworld and Eugeo isnt.

Curious to see how this will all play out in the next season and final part of Alicization.

A complete step up from the original Sword Art Online and SAO II in essentially every way imaginable. I enjoyed Alicization way more than I expected, actually looking forward to the next episode in between viewings, which was certainly surprising. Eugeo was an excellent character (for the most part), the animation was fantastic, and the series seemed to greatly benefit from embracing the isekai genre again. Interested to see where the story goes from here. On to War of Underworld! 7/10.

Wow I knew Eugeo's death was coming since I read the novels but damn seeing it animated really hit me.

RIP to best boy in SAO.

One word to summarize this season for me is, lacklustre. Its obvious not much care was put in this adaptation. It feels like theyre animating it for the sake of animating. And the battle animation, oh boy, it definitely suffered that it's just downright embarrassing to watch, considering previous seasons had much better battle choreography.

Another thing is Eugeo's character. His character really didnt get much justice (like his backstory and internal monologues being skipped over) and its sad because he was actually a decent character in SAO standards.

I believe A-1 could do Alicization much much better, but I guess they dont care anymore as theyre just here to milk the franchise. 7/10.

Well I can't say I like how the babe goddess died but ITs the best way to die off with a waifu.

I'm hoping alice is alive really, the blonde babe needs to survive.

Cool season. Leaves some to be desired for sure, but really enjoyed it.

The questionable scenes everyone is worked up about really isn't the problem here.

The problem are 'fans' or peeps assigning a relationship to Eugeo and Kirito. They were friends, did shit together, killed some bads.

OMG LOOK THEY"RE GHEY.

Calm down, sheesh. Oddly enough same crap happened with Frozen 2 where Elsa was talking with that tribe chick.

SHIP THEM DISNEY.

Give it a rest.

Kirito in his best outfit, he beat Administrator ofc
Wtf is going on outside, I look forward to the next season
This season was good, not as good as the others, the first part felt pretty slow and Eugeo was unbearable

The audacity to end your show on such a cliffhanger, that's setting up a lot for the sequel that I hope it delivers well.
This was probably my favorite season of SAO, maybe on part with the Aincrad arc portion of season one, hearing the outside voices was such a breakthrough.
I wonder however what happened to the administrator.

The fight was nice, though it all coming down to Quinella getting... mounted? by the clown and being the reason she dies was really lame. And I still don't see any reason Cardinal had to die, but whatever.
Kirito showcasing the yellow eyes might mean more of the usual "breaking his limits or the rules of the system" it seems.
I didn't expect Eugeo to really die, but to be honest, I didn't feel anything for him. He was fine in the beginning, and had some good scenes, but overall felt lackluster and the last few episodes of him being an idiot didn't help either.
Also, why did they essentially let "young" Alice's crystal disappear again? Was it only cause she was used up for the sword thing? Kinda sad she had to "die" now for the new one.
I expected the attack on Rath, but I didn't think it would be the guys from GGO from that random scene of the first episode or so. They are the ones, aren't they?
Did that last scene mean that Asuna might be joining him with the other STL mentioned earlier? I hope so, that would be much better. Kirito slowing down the passage of time just at the right moment is cliché, but it was a fun cliffhanger for the last episode.

Now overall, I honestly didn't like this arc too much. I think my biggest problem comes down to the "okay but why does this matter at all?" feeling in me. Like sure, now we have the raid on the base, but apart from that, this whole world didn't really seem to have much importance for the real world, but at the same time wasn't as enjoyable as the video game aspect of the previous arcs. I loved SAO for the video game aspect first and foremost and how they handled it and the threats each arc.
I understand that these are supposed to be like real people ("souls"), but it just didn't feel of any importance. To be hones, if Kirito wasn't the protagonist of this one, it wouldn't really feel like SAO at all. Even then, Kirito barely ever mentioned the outside world apart from the first time he arrived and thought of "why am I here again? oh well, time to save this world and not try to get out or anything".

The fight scenes of this arc were lackluster, most of them boiled down to like one slash or parry and who has the stronger will or something. The "integrity knight of the week" gauntlet episodes didn't help either. Some seemingly big enemies just died or were defeated so fast I didn't really feel any excitement during these.
The world itself was interesting at first, but the explanation overdose we got during some parts made it a bit boring

I can't say I didn't enjoy parts of the arc, however. Alice was a good character and I hope to see more of her. Quinella was also surprisingly fun to watch, but I also wouldn't have wanted her to surivive this (although I have no idea what she hoped to accomplish in the real world).
In general the story itself wasn't too bad, just a bit too generic. Like I'm used to SAO having stupid parts, but I still enjoy the story if I don't think too much about the illogical parts.
I'm gonna give this arc a 6/10. It was fine, nowhere near as good or enjoyable as the previous two season. I expected more from what people said, but maybe it's due to the adaptation or the actual good parts come in the next arc. Let's hope.

I don't know why I still bother with this franchise. The exact same template as previous seasons. Great first arc with actual world building, genuine character moments and a semblance of inspiration from the writers. And then it devolves into a badly written melodramatic battle show. The writer is incapable of creating villains after Kayaba. Jesus-kun shows up whenever things get a bit too dire and the function of all other characters is to jerk off Kirito. Eugeo's final act is legit naming Kirito's sword and calling him his hero. Jesus-kun kill me please.

Seriously the reason why I'm pissed is just because once again I'm let down. I really want to like SAO and I love it at it best moments but my god do I loathe it at it's worst. I wish I could care about Eugeo's death but because of how bad it was written I'm just cynically thinking that they can happily go back to their all waifu cast. I'll probably watch the sequel in a few months when I've forgotten most of this and think "it couldn't have been that bad right?".

I really enjoyed having a cliff hanger ending to the season. Really kept me guessing and first time in SAO where I am actually excited to start the next season (after putting this one off for soooo long).

Biggest question I had near the end was how Quinella managed to always prevent the nip slip from happening? Quite impressive, if you ask me. Rip my Eugeo though. They made him into a bad ass sword and then oof'ed him.

I've been spoiled, but I'm still sad over Eugeo's death. He was a good kid, and had quite some character growth within the span of one season. RIP.

Well so far Alicization arc is pretty good, about as good as Aincrad or even better.
