THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Episode 1 title is the girl of soleil (ソレイユの少女). It's kinda okay. The episode revolves around Princess Yuuki and Stella is not on the episode. The mecha fights were also good and there's some funny moments between Joshua and Princess Yuuki. Not a bad start.

So, Joshua is a guy and he is meant as the love interest of our Ni..hh, Yuuki?

Well, that Yuuki girl is cute but she's a bit childish. I really hope they develop beyond her personality.

The actual fighting with the mechs had my interest (not a fan of the animation quality though) As far as I can tell so far, there's military themes in this along with royalty and status among the some of the cast members. Looks fine I guess. The music is surprisingly decent.

That's some excellent mech action there even though it's all VR, but even that's quite impressive. Yuuki seems more like a very rich top idol (her outfit stick out and screams more idol as well) than a princess.

A good start to 2019, although you do have to factor in that Yuuki's a princess, and that was common among royalty.

I just still remember how much there was controversy that “this is a yuri show, because it has two female protagonists”. Not to mention the fact that any link to Love Live is often considered by people for the yuri subtext in itself :D

Well it looks interesting but this episode didn't tell us much yet.
It's clear the princess is still a bit to young to lead her country but that could be funny in a way.
I am wondering what the other characters will be like.

The princess obviously can work with strategy but she seems rather uninspired. I think, she only comes out of her shell if Joshua is involved.

Welp, we're still at war. I guess, they don't think that the princess is ready to face this fact yet.

This was an okay start, i'm intrigued in the other girl that was majorly shown in the OP. Looks like she's from the other faction and to me, it looks like they plan to give focus to both sides and not even negative ones.

I agree Yuuki is a bit immature for a princess.. But most stories from then on evolve pretty well so hopefully (?) we will see her mature or, in then on take a better role in the anime.
I'm liking it so far.

that was ok for a first episode, all we know is that the princess is 12 and the boy is 15, both had lost their parents, there’s a fight(?) at the frontier of both countries?? i didn’t understand that at all
although the girl is too childish (well... the boy too) i expect something more about the machines (they remember me code geass) and the thing that killed the princess’ parents

The whole ep I was waiting for the capital to be attacked by not-Zeon and for the princess' world view to be shattered as she runs away with Joshua in some prototype. I'm interested at how the administration are hiding facts from the princess (stick around for the post-credits) and can't wait to see how that plot point unfolds.

I was impressed by the solid narrative thread. I wasn't bored and will keep watching, so I'm pretty happy. Who knows how well it'll turn out though.

The princess is way too moe for her own good (and loli) but I wasn't even slightly irritated. I really hope they don't screw this up.

Ah, but of course they would lie to the princess about the sad reality of their relations with their neighbor...

Didn't know they were showing Ajin as part of their strategy lessons, though, clearly the princess has been learning from Satou how to properly use buildings. :D

It's not too bad I suppose. I'll probably save this to watch after the season is over. But going by the way the credits went, could there possibly be yuri that brings these two countries together? I kid. It's worth the 6 rating currently.
Don't believe the hype.

Fun Episode, Nothing too insightful but i'm getting some good macross-ish vibes from this one. It's gonna be fun.

Also they went hard on the memeable moments. the surprise roll and layla putting her hand on yuuki's back in the end could do some damage.

What the fuck did I just watch? A kingdom, some random mechas, and cute girls?

Jokes aside, I was pleasantly surprised by the CG used in this. I don't know how they managed to make it less jarring and actually watchable unlike many anime with bad CG thrown randomly in every scene.
But that SHAFTiness tho lol

Worth watching for the CG and the SHAFT style alone.

I'm impressed so far, particularly the mock battle that Yuki and Joshua won. That was pretty bad ass stuff there from both of them. Too bad they departed from each other though.

Can't wait to see what's up with this one.

I feel like it's just me, but I'll be honest, the princess completely threw me off of this show. It's fantasy, yeah, but even for a fantasy, her personality doesn't make much sense for her placement. She's a princess, yet she hasn't been taught how to behave at all? Her goal is to just make EVERYBODY "smile" with no actual methodology? I know she's young, but this all just struck out to me. Perhaps this is one of those shows where you are supposed to turn your brain off. I don't want to seem too negative, though. I can see why people have a lot of fun with this right off the bat.

Quite interesting the first episode, we have a of 12 years girl, princess of a country and only ruler, I find it interesting and I with a little potential.
Princess Yuuki is quite adorable, although it seems that her new position is quite difficult to handle for someone her age, but she has her childhood friend and bodyguard Joshua and Layla, a gorgeous and serious assistant.
The Mechas have a design that left me satisfy and the animation of these is quite well achieved.
The practice fight showed us the battle dynamics they have with the Mechas and also gave us an idea of the teamwork between Yuuki and Joshua
Apparently everything looks very peaceful, which seemed strange to me, but in the end everything became clear at the end of the episode and indeed there is a war with the neighboring country on the border between the two nations, but it is really necessary to hide this event from the princess ?, with this I am interested at least until I know why they do not tell the truth to the princess? and What will happen when she finds out the truth?

I wish the princess was older because cute girls doing cute things gets boring and this episode had the chance to turn it interesting by letting her put the other woman in her place instead solving it with "She's so kind no one can truly hate her"-trope. Then again the show is supposed to be light hearted despite the war so I can see why they didn't do it.
The developing love between her and Joshua already feels dry because for once I wished two characters who basically grew up as brother and sister would platonically genuinely love each other instead presenting romance as the next step and highest form of love again...
Maybe the next episode will be better.

Yeah I find this odd too. They claimed to no longer treat her like a child anymore and gave her a very long list of duties yet they won't tell her about the war? I guess they fear her naive nature would make her do risky choices

You are dumb, read the synopsis and rewatch the episode. The new girl is from the other country and they seem to be at war, sooo it's not that weird to see them fighting, and from the synopsis and the ED you can tell she is going to be important.

YOU CAN'T BE CONFUSED HERE DUDE, WTF?

6 seems pretty harsh. This episode was pretty solid.

The only issue I had was the crappy subs from Crunchyroll. We're 4 days into the year and they already had a hilariously stupid subtitle error. "I have turned twelve years old twelve.". I listened back to the audio to see if maybe she was nervous and actually said "twelve" twice , but no, she didn't. Crunchyroll just still has no editors, I guess. Making record money but putting no effort into improving their subs. At least the video itself was really high bitrate...that was a welcome surprise.

Eh. This one feels like it's trying too hard to be cutesty at points. There's some interesting stuff, and I'll give it another episode just because it's early in the season, but overall, it's not great. The presentation especially is kinda awful honestly, something about most of the designs feel really off, and the mechas are only kinda passable.

The score will probably go up once more people start rating it cause right now it has the same score as some of the worst anime out there

This was an okay episode.

It was mostly an introduction to the world and characters.

I think Yuki is cute. She just became the ruler of her country. It’s a shame since she’s only 12. With her parents both dead, I guess the responsibility is left to her.

I like her friend Joshua too. I’m guessing he has feelings for her? Maybe? It kinda seems that way. Looks like he’s gonna head off to defend their border.

I’m guessing we’ll get to meet the other main girl next time
