^Fappa for President. Great reply! The show is so much more than just a Sakuta + Mai romance, and it's the better for it. |

Thanks for the formatting and no your english is fine, no worries. I'll put in a spoiler tag cause we're just flooding this discussion thread otherwise. I'm just saying that, for me, the most important part of the show should be the story and, of course, the couple. I wouldn't mind (in fact, I really want) 2/3 episodes about Futaba, because I want to know about her, but that's different from, for example, 3 episodes about her falling in love with Sakuta But that arc was not about Koga falling in love. Again, you're missing the bigger picture behind it. And if you want to talk romance then this arcs point first and foremost was about: 1. How people on their way to adolescence tend to lie to themselves about their feelings, trying to deny them only to end up having even stronger feelings and that no amount of repeated days will change someone's heart who is set on someone else. Rejection is a part of facing yourself & others. It's not about Koga falling for our protagonist but about an analogy to real life scenarios and how it affects Koga as a character. 2. Part of a relationship is also to show the hardships and how it matures by overcoming those. This arc threw both Sakuta & Mai at hardships and they overcame it. Sure Mai got reset but Sakuta, the part who still approached this in a way too immature way, matured through it. I get that you want them to stick together and all but showing this side before they actually get together was vital. who sometimes is portrayed like a perfect harem protagonist who saves the girl, not just a guy who is trying his best Sorry but Sakuta is everything but a perfect harem protagonist nor is she portrayed as such. He did not save the girl, he provided help for self help something friends would do which oh! he actually made quite clear in the middle of the arc. All he did was giving Koga the necessary push to make her mature and move forward by herself. You don't change your ways on how you view yourself and how you socialize by getting saved, that an achievement of your own. Same thing with the guy going after Koga. He did not save her, he first and foremost helped himself as he made himself the focus of the conflict. You can see that the side character learns a lot from the protagonist and grow as a person, but that does not happen in the other direction. We can see Sakuta learning things from this events, but always by himself. I disagree. Sakuta realised that he needs to take action in order to become someone who would've been able to help his sister through the case with Koga. It was Koga that reminded Sakuta that while he has laid out his feelings to Mai he has never once asked her about how she feels. In that sense Koga made him realise that in order to have a proper relationship they need to be on the same level and be aware of their mutual feelings for each other. Through Koga's entire lifestyle that Sakuta has long drifted away from he is once again reaffirmed on how he does not want to turn out. Through Koga's case of rather unreliable friends Sakuta is once again reaffirmed on how he treasures the two friends he has. Even reaffirmation is a part of growth. And the list goes on & on. I like the feeling of "Man, this side character is so cool on his/her own". Sometimes, side characters are just used like devices to make the protagonist look cool. I have 0 interest on seeing this, and you can develop a side character without making him/her look that he/she only exists to fall in love with our protagonist. I think it shows disrespect to your own characters. For me and others she is cool on her own especially because of her issues. A character can be internally flawed and be cool because of that. Koga is that for me. She simply does not appeal to you in the same manner then that does not diminish her worth as a character. She is also not there to make Sakuta look cool. Several instances of him associating with her has more downsides rather than benefits. All that I earlier said was to describe on how Koga is much more than the factor of her falling in love. I don't know if you simply didn't read it but that's more than enough to refute this point. I just wanted to express that I can't think any good reason for Kamoshida that would make him think that it was a good idea. Because it pitches Sakuta & Mai as well as their relationship against hardships rather than letting them have their happy honeymoon all while we get to meet another character who provides insight on another part of the troubling nature of young adolescence. There you have it. About Koga. I love shows with interesting characters . They don't have to be perfect (in fact, I would hate that). It's not a bad thing to be afraid, to be wrong and all that things. I also feel insecure and I hate myself sometimes for that. We are social beings and we need other people. But would I do anything to fit? Would I be happy with that kind of relationships? Hell no. Koga is just an extremely annoying school girl. "Some people relate to her" Some do? How? We all suffer the "school atmosphere", but what makes us different is how we react to this (for example Sakuta). Well that's just you being you then. You can't relate, others can. That's simply a matter of relatability and not the shows fault if it fails to meet your own personal preferences. It's clearly there with a certain intention and drift behind it. Some relate to it because they are incredibly insecure in about any scenario involving a new social environment. Social anxiety, insecurities and the difficulty to fit in are prominent for many people in all kinds of parts of their life. Again, just because you can't relate to it doesn't mean it does not exist for other people and this character is meant to be relatable to exactly those people. It's what makes Koga a character on her own that distances her from merely being a girl that falls for Sakuta. You're (even the show is) telling me that she reminded Sakuta of his sister? Kaede would behave like this in that situation? Really? That would piss me off. The similarity Sakuta describes is that both are extremely anxious of being rejected by their respective social environments. Koga's statement of being embarrassed stroke a chord in Sakuta's heart because it reminded him of Kaede and this whole deal with Kaede reminds him of his own failures. She is just a girl who makes time loops because of a guy "confessing his love" and the effects that this event will have in her "friendships". I hate this kind of people in real life, if you are going to portray them in the series, don't try to make me like them, they're lame to me. You're simplifying her issue way too much. She's a person who suffers from putting an extreme amount of pressure on herself because she wants to fit into a completely new social environment that she was forced into through reasons on the side of her family. She is afraid of being confronted with something like love cause any kind of response could literally mean the death sentence to her social standing which she tries everything to uphold. She's anxious of rejection and change so to avoid even that confrontation she starts to loop days. You're free to dislike people like that. What you're asking and criticizing the show for tho is to comfort to your own very individual & personal stance and not even attempt to do anything else. That's just being incredibly close minded and dismissive. A show does not have to go along with your core ideals to very specific topics and nor is it worse by not doing so. I would be mad at myself if I related to Koga, seriously. So the guy that confess to Koga is a bad person but Koga is not? Because he's a dick and she's a poor girl suffering the school atmosphere? For me, they're both disgusting in their own way. I'm sorry, but this is not relatable for me. I'm actually surprised that you don't see that. Koga by design is an incredibly faulty character and personality. She's obviously supposed to relate to some people and it's not in a way that makes you wear it proudly like a badge. So of course it evoke negative feelings if you related to Koga because it essentially holding up a mirror to your face and shows you your own shortcomings. Also, Koga dialogue's is still good, much better than the majority of shows, because I think the author is quite good at doing this. But if you compare to Sakuta's, Mai's, Futaba's... This 3 last episodes were carried on by Sakuta himself. I disagree entirely. While Sakuta certainly plays a key role in this arc, he certainly did not "carry" anything. All you need to look at is on how this whole conflict is resolved. It requires Koga to be honest to herself. It requires Koga to grow from this situation. It requires Koga to loop back the days again. After the 3 first episodes, I expected this series to be about both of them, as individuals and as a couple. But for now, it seems that the only protagonist is Sakuta and Mai is only a girl who shows from time to time, like she's no more important. In order to do a romance you have to give time to both of them. Imagine going to a cinema to watch a romantic film, and one of the member of the couple only shows like two times. What's that? Sakuta & Mai are not a couple first and foremost, they are individuals with their own responsibilities and desires. That only becomes clear simply by the way their conversations go. It's a constant battle of dominance because both are strong personalities. Anyway, both have reasons to be apart. Mai has to film a movie far away and Sakuta got emotionally invested in the dismay of someone else that reminds him of something very personal. You want them to be constantly together, stuck together with glue without any agency by themselves whatsoever. That's simply not how these two characters are. In my eyes episode 4-6 does have at least an equal amount of characterisation and insight on their romantic relationship as 1-3. It simply isn't as prominent, positively and direct as the first arc. What arc 2 depicts is Sakuta & Mai's relationship within a situation that strains it by default. It's put to a test before it even begins because they're not ready to start it properly as of episode 4 or...well rather Sakuta isn't ready I should say. And no Mai is no side character that just occasionally shows up or lacks importance. Her presence within the 2nd arc can be constantly felt and she doesn't need to be on screen for that. She had her reasons to not be present all the time yet you always knew that she exists and the influence she had was plenty. If a character can be physically absent yet present in the narrative, especially in a romantic context then that's a well written romantic relationship. So in that sense Kamoshida actually did a amazing job with how he handled Sakuta & Mai. If you want even more examples recall all the events that happened within the 2nd arc and how it left several impressions on Sakuta & us and then come to a conclusion on how differently the confession scenes played out. - Sakuta learned that even if there was something that would give Mai a bad impression of his faithfulness she would always want to hear the full story from him. She also wants him to be proactive about it. - Sakuta learned that Mai cares about his sister ( This would have happened either way so that's not exactly exclusive for this arc ) - We learned that even if another girl is involved Mai does not even doubt Sakuta's faithfulness one second - Sakuta learned that even while apart Mai genuinely misses him and still knows him the best - Sakuta learned what Mai's future plans are and that she goes out of her way to help him remain by her side in the future. He knows she plans for this to last forever preferably and it's not a mere school crush. - Sakuta learned that while he confessed in several loops he never heard Mai declare her feelings even once That brings me to the confession itself between Episode 4 & 6. In Episode 6 Sakuta is way more serious in his approach while pretty much saying the exact same words. He's not treating this as a flirty banter but as a serious matter and he asks for how Mai feels. The way he approaches this topic between before this whole arc and after it is completely different mirroring the development that this arc has provided. I thought this would be about Sakuta and Mai helping other people, with the help of Futaba and maybe more people. It seems to me that it will not happen, but who knows, we're on episode 6 for now. Well maybe you shouldn't have put expectation onto the show before it actually opened up beyond its introduction arc and instead stay openminded to what the show would present you. Again 1 arc, 1 volume. You could say "But this show is not about romance". Okay, then, in the first place, why do you spend 3 first episodes developing a couple? It's like someone letting you taste some food and then not letting you eat. Do it, or don't do it. But if you do, do it all the way. It's not purely about romance, it's a part of it. Why spend the first arc establishing a couple? I'm not sure but I did not see a couple neither officially or unofficially. Sakuta confessed his feelings and Mai didn't outright rejected him but became visible to everyone yes, but they did not make that step yet at this point. That's what Arc 2 tries to bring across. Through the events of Arc 2 Sakuta matured enough to not only establish a mutual affirmation of their feelings but also approach the relationship with her in a serious manner. What Arc 1 established in that sense was a foundation which Arc 2 put to a test. All I'm saying is that I think you can do aaaall of this without her being in love with Sakuta. Without the fake dates, without the scenes that tells the audience "Ohh, look at her being in love with Sakuta, poor girl". Nope, you can't. For what the show tackled on several fronts it couldn't have happened without the fake dates or her actually falling for him. That's quite an easy one to get actually. The fake dates not only served as a springboard for the conclusions that followed it also put Sakuta & Mai's relationship to a test. And Koga falling for Sakuta not only tested his loyalty to Mai, it also was another part of what the story wants to depict through Koga's character and her path to maturity and adolescence. Also the intended audience reaction was not sympathy for the fact that she fell in love with someone who was sure to not return those feelings, you misread that entirely. If that was the case the show wouldn't have went out of its way to constantly portray her affection for him as a roadblock to her own development and a source for why she is stuck her she is stuck. What the intended audience reaction was, was to feel supportive of her moving forward as a person and mature from this experience. Episode 4 was she was just very annoying with the fake date and all that thing. The author really thought that I wouldn't mind to see Sakuta on a date with other girl? Just because (pun intended) he isn't interested in her? But episodes 5 and 6 are just unbearable. Yes, because the author trusted his audience to pick up on how of a non issue this whole thing for Sakuta & Mai's relationship is. It can't be any more clearer than both of them flat out acknowledging it as nothing that will ever threaten what they have with each other. You spend 3 episodes with Mai's romance (I know her story isn't just about her love to Sakuta, I think you can understand me) and the you do the same with Koga (idem). The difference? How Sakuta feels about them. In the first 3, he is happy with it, the last 3, he is obviously not. But, by spending 3 episodes on Mai's love feelings and other 3 on Koga's, you are putting them on the same level (exclusivity, I say). Incorrect. Neither of the arc's focus was on the girl getting romantically involved with Sakuta. It's a byproduct of them interacting as human beings only that it comes to fruition in one case more than in another. The difference between them is also not just limited to Sakuta's response, that's just oversimplifying it again. They are also not put on the same level...that alone should be extremely clear. And if you talk about both of them getting 3 episodes arcs then I can just tell you that you're veeeery focused on episode formats. We've cleared two books out of 9 with no idea how the rest turns out. Please. I mean just look at the characters of the show. Except Sakuta's friend and the asshole guy, all are girls . You are telling me that this has no intention of being harem-ish? You can establish a couple and, at the same time, maintain a harem, cause you are spending time on the other girl's "affection" to the protagonist. And I hate that. Girls exist at school, scary thought right? Jokes aside. I see no issues with that. And nope it has no intentions at being that, I can even tell you that this is the case all the way up to volume 9 for the simple fact that Sakuta could not give two shits about the affections of others except for the person he holds affection with. If you want a big spoiler as to why He literally swapped realities to save Mai from sacrificing her life for him. He proposed to her and they're both engaged. They even both think about starting a family now. It's also only Mai that is by his side when it's about topics very personal to him like his mom. This is not the type of progression that a story with the time to implement "harem antics" has In my eyes what you're saying boils down to "I wanted a romance centred show around a specific ship and I don't get that every episode so it's disappointing". Like I said it's fine to really value an aspect of a show like romance but it's also important to pace it and show them as their individual people. |

I realy like this Show. It is incredible strong and had the Potenzial too become a classic like Angel Beats. The Bunnygirl Immage, Dancing in front the Moon is a Kaguya reference. I wonder if the Anime had an Bad End? Because Kaguya, the Rabbitprinces from the Moon leave her Boyfriend in the end of the Tail. I also liked how the End of the Problem was played out. Because the Maincharacter so fare was like a Jesus figure, a shining hero, who solve all Problems. And this in so fare my only fear in this Show. I didnt want this become the norme. But the Girl was forced too make all actions again, this time alowne. (sorry for my mediocre english) By the way, the Girl had the same voice actor as Uchiha Sasuke. Weird. She sounded so Madoka Ish. And still, his way too trick a date out of his Girlfriend was great. Hes such a troll. And hes realy good whit people, but choose too way whatever he want, instead. |

I know that by now people probably won't look at this thread anymore since the new episode came out, but I'm still embarrassingly confused about the ending of Koga's arc. So maybe hopefully someone will read this and still help me out. Why did everything reset back to June instead of just continuing from the moment she confessed her feelings? Is it because the problem started back then? What confuses me most is that they still go out on 'dates'. Like to the aquarium and stuff. Why the heck would they go to the aquarium if they're not fake dating? Which of these things did and didn't happen eventually? It feels like a plothole in my mind and it's bugging me. Other than that, loved the episode and how the emotions were brought across. At the same time it felt slightly cliché and predictable though, but not enough to really bother me. Mai and Sakuta's dynamic just works really well. |

Koga was a really interesting girl to watch, she was cute but you could also relate to her a bit, and I appreciate Sakuta treated the situation like he did, that reset also surprising. Judging from these 6 episodes alone it is fair to say this is already a great drama series, and that tease for the next arc with Shouko, I m really digging it so far. |

Mai and Sakuta's dynamic just works really well. My understanding is that Koga was so socially keyed-in and adept at predicting others' actions (the "atmosphere") that she created the simulation of reality that started from the point where she was asked out by Basketball Guy. A true Laplace's Demon. Because they kicked each others' butts ("quantum entanglement"), Sakuta got caught up in the simulation. Sakuta helps Koga resolve her situation by being honest with herself and gaining that confidence, and the simulation disappears and time resets to "real" reality. He's said multiple times that he would continue to be her friend. Friends hang out together, and do stuff like visiting the aquarium. I didn't take it as anything more than that. |

That must really suck, just when he taught he had at last finished pretending that dating game, he's stuck in the loop again. I've seen that coming from a mile away, but never expected the time to go back with him that much, it's like all of those fun memories are ought to be forgotten about and ignored, I feel bad for her. But they were built upon lies, and they were doomed from the get-go. Ok, now for the controversial part, why the hell did this happen? Just when things settled down and he finally found his way, he has reunited with her again? I'm sure it's the girl from his flashback, the one he said he loved. This is getting as messy as an old buggy PHP script. |

It was a very good arc, being honest. And Koga really is a cutie so I'm really glad she stopped caring so much about her surroundings. She was able to gain a truly good lesson and in the end, she didn't end up alone as she had expected. It was a very good episode and although the fact that she fell in love with Sakuta was predictable, I liked how it was handled. Not to mention that her decision to reset time to the very beginning was a really good one. Aside from that, in some aspect, I'm really looking forward to see Futaba's arc. If it's true that she's in love with Kunimi, I want to see how that will go since he seems to be a very nice guy. |

That one-month restart in the end was cool. Koga being in love with Sakuta was as obvious as a first-grader math problem, but everything else like the cause of the time paradox were things I couldn't predict. Since Koga became a better person after the rejection, I'm glad Sakuta had the guts to turn her down. Actually knowing Sakuta's personality by now, I would've been far more surprised if he chickened out and went the harem route instead lol. |

Rayckon said: The Bible, part III. Don't worry about the length, since half the text is yours. Anyway, nobody is forcing you. But that arc was not about Koga falling in love. Again, you're missing the bigger picture behind it. And if you want to talk romance then this arcs point first and foremost was about: Yeah, that's the point. I know the arc is not about she falling in love. Actually, wouldn't you be mad if that happened? That's because I'm telling you that you can do the same without making her fall in love. Or you could do just something different, I mean, I'm not a writer but I bet that Kamoshida can come with another idea (better in my opinion, of course). 1. Yeah, agree. But you could do the same but in a different way. For me is this simple: you want to talk about rejection as a part of growing? Ok, then why not make Koga have feelings for another guy? I think you could do the same without making Sakuta the central part of this arc. This way, you talk about rejection and you don't affect my exclusivity thing. Do you think it has to be Sakuta? Do you think that there's no other idea that doesn't involve this? Totally agree with you. Problem? As I said before, I think there must be another way of doing this without making a girl (or a boy) falling in love with our protagonists. For example, I felt very uncomfortable during the misunderstanding in episode 4, but just after it happens, you can tell there's no problem between them, and that's a very good way of portraying love by using a cliche scene. (Although the first time you see the scene makes you mad, or at least the 2 seconds that the misunderstanding lasts) Sorry but Sakuta is everything but a perfect harem protagonist nor is she portrayed as such. I think we all mature by ourselves necessary, I think is impossible to make someone mature by force. We all need a process of understanding, and only oneself can do this. We agree on that. But I think that Sakuta is slightly portrayed like a white knight in some scenes. Like the scene when he beats the guy. I mean, came on, that scene is so used in romance (I must say I liked the virgin part). It's a scene about the man (Sakuta) beating the guy by his own to protect the poor girl that is in danger, all in front of the others. Few minutes ago, we saw Futaba telling him to use the brain, cause the opponent is stronger. Well, you could apply this to our little girl Koga. For me, a better scene would be Koga defeating this guy using her own brain (this would also show some determination from her), along with Sakuta. That way, you show how both of them used their brain, and you don't get that romantic vibe of the perfect guy saving the day again with no help needed. This is what I talking about, they way the present this events, the romantic vibe between Koga and Sakuta, even if he isn't interested in her. I guess you see this scene in a different way. Please, tell me then. Yeah, I agree with you, as I said, Sakuta learns all this things by himself because he's an smart, empathic guy. This is not a bad thing, but I see this quite one sided. Again, I think I'm not explaining myself correctly (do you know some Spanish perhaps? haha). First, this was more like a general comment about romance shows, not about this one. I don't think she's just there to fall in love with Sakuta, I think Kamoshida wants to tell a story through this girl case, but I also think that he can do it without making her being in love. And of course, I don't want perfect characters, hell no. But there's a difference between being flawless and being a piece of shit. Do you think that the asshole beaten guy is just flawless? An murderer is just flawless? For me, Koga isn't the worst human on the planet, but I wouldn't call her "flawless". She's anything but cool. Because it pitches Sakuta & Mai as well as their relationship against hardships rather than letting them have their happy honeymoon all while we get to meet another character who provides insight on another part of the troubling nature of young adolescence. There you have it. Again, I think there must be other ways of doing this without making her fall in love. Yes, you are right about this thing being me. As I told you, I find quite insulted for trying to make me care about this girl's life. The extreme example again (which I don't compare to Koga). How would you feel if I tried to make you relate to a rapist? I hope you would punch me in the face (I think you would like that after all this reading :p) I guess that you think that someone relating to Koga's actions is acceptable. Ok, I do not. Because it's not about her problem (that we all suffer), it's about how she responds to that atmosphere. I want characters whose situation makes the audience relate to him (school, work, etc.), but at the same time I want a interesting point of view of this common things, and I want this character to get over the problem. Koga is not a good example of this. The similarity Sakuta describes is that both are extremely anxious of being rejected by their respective social environments. Koga's statement of being embarrassed stroke a chord in Sakuta's heart because it reminded him of Kaede and this whole deal with Kaede reminds him of his own failures. Exactly, both girls feel anxious. I would also feel like that. Wouldn't you? But I'm sure I wouldn't behave like Koga does. And again, how we react to this situations it's what define us. Extreme example again: if you killed someone just to fit in the atmosphere, man, I'm not helping you. No, nope. I guess you think Koga deserves some help, even knowing they way she behaves. I think I don't need to repeat myself again. When I feel insulted by the show, I think that I should criticize it (although it's true that people say that if one gets offended, it's because of oneself) . Don't get me wrong, you don't have to make a character that I can relate 100%. This show is not about me. But that doesn't mean you can present any character with any personality. So, the author's purpose is to get part of the audience to relate to her and evoke negative feelings because they are actually relating to her? So this arc isn't aimed at people like me? Is the author trying to make me like this character or not? If the answer is yes then I think is just wrong; if not, that does not make the show bad, but I don't know what to feel about this, I haven't thought much on it. I hope you can explain me. Yes, as I said, she must solve her own problems. But the way the show portrays it in certain moments felt to me that Sakuta wasn't just someone helping her. He was like a saviour. I mean, the only moment that I really see her being mature and showing some growth is in the confession scene, which is the climax of the arc. And she does it because she is forced to, because there's no more option (now that I think this part of growing up, there's no other option, but I still think it's bad portrayed). It seems to me that Sakuta had to do too many things, for a person that shows not much will to change. Although is true he was in a bad position, but that's just the author creating the pretext (a coherent one) to write this story and not another one. These episodes felt very one sided for me in some ways, I'm not sure if you get what I'm saying. Not stuck together with glue, just spending time like a normal couple would do. Mai filming a movie is coherent with her character. If this happened in real life, then you can do nothing. But, seriously, this is fiction, I'm not seeing a show with romance to watch the couple just talking to each other from time to time. That's not what I want to see. Even if it shows how they care each other despite the distance and all that things that my English level doesn't allow me to express. But my problem here is more about why Kamoshida wrote this or didn't wrote that. (I know you are going to misinterpret this cause I don't know how to tell you in English all my thoughts without spending like 3 days per answer). Just be to clear, I'm not talking about the show being only scenes about them two together. Let me try explaining: If you make a show about the life of a certain guy, it would be about his feelings (what he likes, what he fears), about people he cares and all that kind of things. But, you wouldn't spend time showing scenes when he is just laying on his bed sleeping during 8 hours. You could say: But real people sleeps. We all know that, and we all know that he is sleeping. But is not showed because is not interesting, he is just sleeping. Of course, you can make a scene about a nightmare, but that's used to refer to something happened in a different moment. And is a certain scene when he wakes up or something like that. It's not ten minutes of this character sleeping in his bed. Again, I can't see why Sakuta would get emotionally invested in Koga. She is in a situation like his sister, but she's not like her. Sorry, but I don't believe a person would help a stranger just because is in the same situation as his beloved sister. As I said, for me, Koga does not deserve help. Or, at least, she does not deserve spending soooo much time with her. It's nonsense for me. It seems that we have different mindsets, so for you (and Kamoshida) some behaviours are normal, but for me they are not. I think the same, more or less. I know what arc 2 shows about their relationship, I've read like 90% of your comments about this series. I also think that the show is almost every time refering their relationship in one or another way. There are some ways of developing a romantic relationship. As you said, you can do it without the couple being on screen, in a no direct way, you said. In fact, this is good writing. But I think that, in order to do that, you must first give an acceptable time on screen. What I think is that you can do it directly without doing it indirectly, and it's always better to do both, of course I agree with you on that. But you can't do it indirectly without doing it directly. And no Mai is no side character that just occasionally shows up or lacks importance. Her presence within the 2nd arc can be constantly felt and she doesn't need to be on screen for that. She had her reasons to not be present all the time yet you always knew that she exists and the influence she had was plenty. I agree that her presence can be felt in many times during these episodes, without been on screen (and that's good writing). But that doesn't mean you are not pushing her aside. This show (keep in mind that I'm always talking about the aired episodes, I'm not saying this about the entire series, which would be quite awful from me, given that I haven't read the light novels) always revolves around Sakuta. It's always Sakuta and -insert character name here-. I thought that, since romance is a important part in this show, this story would be about Sakuta and Mai (focused on them, not ONLY about them, I repeat), as individuals and as a couple. We've got a lot of couple scenes in the first 3 episodes, and quite the same with Sakuta's. But (for now, I repeat) hardly ever see Mai's point of view. So, is this show supposed to revolve around Sakuta? Because, in that case I think it's a really bad choice, given that the author himself decide to write a romance. The show lacks Mai scenes, and I'm not talking about her with Sakuta, I'm talking about her alone interacting with other people. People from her job, family (well, there's her sister arc no?), school, etc. I mean, why can't she talk with Futaba, for example. I think she would be quite interested in Sakuta's friends. You could say that she's filming a movie. Ok, that's coherent. But still a pretext. Maybe we could get some scenes about her in her job. Maybe the author can make something important happen, showing that Mai is part of the story, not just the girl from the first arc. All the story, for now, is presented from the point of view of Sakuta, he is always the center of the show. And that, for me, doesn't work out if romance is an important part. You can feel Mai presence in 2nd arc during the many Sakuta's scenes, but you can't feel Sakuta's present during Mai scenes, just because there's no such scenes. It's a one-way feeling, and a love story should be always a two way thing, even if is unrequited, since it's a story about two people, the one who loves and the loved one. Serious question here: Do I have expressed myself here correctly? If a character can be physically absent yet present in the narrative, especially in a romantic context then that's a well written romantic relationship. So in that sense Kamoshida actually did a amazing job with how he handled Sakuta & Mai. I absolutely agree with you on the first part. That's exactly what I mean. Kamoshida does, not one, not two, but a lot of good things in this series, even in episodes 4-6. And that's what really makes me mad. He is able to do such a good work, and at the same time he just throw several things that kill the romantic part of the show. I expect this kind of things in bad shows, but I hoped this wouldn't happen this time, after all the fantastic job from the author (and probably the director, but since I haven't read the novels I shouldn't make assumptions). You don't have to tell that Kamoshida does a lot good things. I'm the one trying to tell you that I feel surprised that a person like him, who demonstrated he can do wonderful things, could make such obvious (for me) mistakes. One thing I like, for example, (if you don't mind me telling you) is the physical contact progression. How the author gives such significance to a hug or a kiss. That's why, apart from one teasing scene, we don't see the characters invading the other's personal space in a trivial way. This way, a hug, a kiss or just holding hands feel so pleasant to watch. Another thing I liked is how he subverted several tropes here and there. - Sakuta learned that while he confessed in several loops he never heard Mai declare her feelings even once Yeah, I think you just put what I liked about these episodes, along with Futaba. But, as you can see, it's always about Sakuta. I love this guy, and of course I enjoy almost any time he's on screen and I want him to be very important in this story. But it feels that all that happens in this fictional world created by Kamoshida, revolves around this guy. I mean, look how you, yourself, in this paragraph, are talking about Sakuta this Sakuta that. I know that Sakuta is the protagonist, and It's logical (and I wouldn't like it different) to be a very important part in this show. I'm not saying this events are shit (in fact I liked them!), but they feel like is sooo Sakuta centered, even for a main protagonist. I think is more about the way this story is made, as I said before. That brings me to the confession itself between Episode 4 & 6. Yeah, I'm with you here. But again, we see this from Sakuta point of view. Telling me how our man feels and how he learns through the events is wonderful. But I also (like Sakuta realizes), want to know what Mai feels and what she learns by herself. If you see what you wrote before, all we learn about her is through Sakuta. Of course, since they're a couple (they're going to be, better said) this is a perfect idea, showing by their interaction how both they are. I think we also must see Mai growing, not just Sakuta. Well maybe you shouldn't have put expectation onto the show before it actually opened up beyond its introduction arc and instead stay openminded to what the show would present you. Again 1 arc, 1 volume. You speak truth here, but I don't mean that is has to be exactly like that, it was more like an example or an approximation. And I'm open minded, but that doesn't mean I'm in order to buy anything, like you did too right? Also, if the series is going to be doing the exact thing over the next episodes, I think the author shouldn't, in the first place, done the first volume like that. It doesn't make any sense. I know is not only about romance. This is about how we people feel, interact with each other. This show talks about people (at least these episodes). And of course, romance and affection is a very important matter. And I understand what arc 2 tries to do, and in some ways it does it quite good. I mean, finishing the arc when Mai is like: Well, I'm not sure how I feel, we will see. I think is not the best way to finish the beginning of their relationship. It was obvious that something more needs to happen. With establishing I didn't mean it in that way. I was trying to tell you that the author was clearly telling us: Hey, this is the main couple of the show. And they are going to be all lovey-dovey sooner or later. Of course, as I said, we needed to know Mai's feelings, cause love is a two-way thing, it's about two people. Put to a test? I'll talk about this in the next one. This is where we disagree. You can't? I think not, I already explained before. And if you wouldn't be able, then I would decide to do another different story. Because the mere fact of another character falling in love with one of the members disgusts me. And top of that, you spend a lot of time with that character and his/her feelings (yes, I know that the arc is not about her love feelings, you understand me). It's not interesting, it's unpleasant and nobody forces you to do it. Test, you say. And I ask, test what? That's the problem, there's nothing to test. One thing we know for arc 1 is that they love each other, without a single doubt. And it's represented with the Schrodinger's cat experiment. There's a moment in episode 3 where you just can't doubt about their love, it's nonsense. You don't have to prove anything. That's why Koga love feelings towards Sakuta are just unnecessary. In fact, if the show presented me the mere possibility of Sakuta being interesting in Koga (or something of that kind) would be enough reason to drop this series. Because doing this after the first 3 episodes wouldn't do fucking sense. About the last part, maybe you are right and I misread. I guess I found it so unnecessary that I had to look for a reason, a bad reason. I'm not sure about this, anyway. But it's clear that Kamoshida does not intent to create a love rival or something like that. Koga's love feelings are no more interest in this show (or I am wrong? Please, tell me that's not the case). So, the author tried to make me support her? Then, as I told you before, I think it's a bad choice. Make people support good people, people with flaws, fears, problems, but good people. Do not try to make empathise with bad people. I guess you think that people like her deserves support, and so does Kamoshida. For me, it's like justifying her. It makes me a little sad, you know, but well, we're discussing about this show, not my life. Please. Again, I think I'm not being able to express my problem with this show. I know it's not about only about love, the show talks about several feelings and situations, including love. The one, who puts quite importance in romantic feelings is Kamoshida himself during arc 1. And I'm okay with that, but you have to be coherent in that sense. And I'm not saying this about a girls falling in love with the protagonist. You think I'm oversimplifying, but I think I'm just lacking English level to communicate what I think about this show. Mai and Koga are not in the same level, but you can't say anymore that the only girl whose feelings towards Sakuta are or were (more or less) important is just Mai. And creating a story about a girl (or boy) whose feelings towards Sakuta are part of the arc, and spending 3 episodes in that story (not romance, story) is wrong for me, because it destroys the exclusivity thing I told you. If I want to enjoy a romance between two characters I don't want the show to spend any second on any other people's feelings towards one of them. You can make multiple couples if you want or whatever. But, for me, this kind of things are just unnecessary and you can do a lot of different things, much better, without this. And why? Well, if you had a girlfriend (or boyfriend) would you be interested in going out in a romantic date with another person? I wouldn't. God, no, please. Boring and uncomfortable. The same goes for a show where romance is important. And I say episodes because I'm talking about the anime, but I know episodes format is not the best idea to refer to this series. Not that I want to be unfair. Girls exist at school, scary thought right? Jokes aside. I see no issues with that. And nope it has no intentions at being that, I can even tell you that this is the case all the way up to volume 9 for the simple fact that Sakuta could not give two shits about the affections of others except for the person he holds affection with. Well, Kamoshida sure has taught me that there are girls at school with this show. I also didn't know that there were like 6 girls per 1 boy, such an interesting phenomenon happens in Japan! Now, seriously, you are telling me that Kamoshida just happened to make the center character of the different arcs a girl? Like 5,6 times? I mean, he does know boys exist, doesn't he? If they were all boys I can tell you that I would be equally surprised. But one thing is true, I wouldn't feel such fear. One thing I like about anime shows is when characters are 50% male 50% female, because in my mind I'm saying: Ok, maybe, just maybe, there are no harem things here (reverse or "normal"). I think this talk quite bad about anime industry. Not that I'm saying all girls are going to fall in love with Sakuta, I mean, we've got Kaede and Futaba. But who knows (well you :P) what Kamoshida does with Mai's sister and any other girl. Scared I am. Don't worry that I know Sakuta and Mai are going to be together and happy forever without any doubt. But that doesn't mean anything. It's like SAO, where it seems that Asuna and Kirito will be together forever, but still shit in my opinion, with all the girls around. Not saying that this show is like SAO, which I think is quite mediocre is almost all episodes. And again, Sakuta don't giving a fuck about other people is the minimum, not something to be proud. In my eyes what you're saying boils down to "I wanted a romance centred show around a specific ship and I don't get that every episode so it's disappointing". Like I said it's fine to really value an aspect of a show like romance but it's also important to pace it and show them as their individual people. I think that I don't need to repeat myself haha. In fact, after finishing episode 3, with a great amount of romance, I thought to myself: Ok, this show just need to keep developing this relationship, but what I need to call this a masterpiece is a story that hooks me. That feeling when you love the story and the characters and how they're connected, and that things that I cannot express because my English bla bla bla etc etc etc. It's obviously much better than a simple story of two people in love (which is something that I already really like) And of course I'm with you in your last sentence. Keep in mind that all we are discussing is from episodes 1-6, being the problem episodes 4-6. I'm not saying that the rest of the show is going to be like this, in any section of my "essay". PD: 5-6 hours writing this. Don't be surprised if I fall in love with you after all this time spent. I know this is a from a month ago but you really lasted five hourd writing that, i read it in 10 minutes. |

Man, I like these characters a lot. Sakuta being firm with his feelings for Mai and rejecting Koga, it's admirable. And Koga finally stepping out of her comfort zone. This is a great episode. |

I knew Tomoe's upgraded friends would end up being that nerdy jellyfish girl lol. It's better to have real friends who you don't need to forcefully keep up with or try to impress or not rub the wrong way I couldn't live with that type of headache lol But SHIT. Sakkun's first love came back. How does she not remember him as soon as he told her his name? Lol dufuq xD First loves usually don't end up being your last tho, so Mai-chan shouldn't be worried (although that's easier said than done haha) Mai-chan's cheek kiss was cute C: |

A little sad for Koga. Not easy to compete with a movie actress. One billion times wearing a swimsuit not enough to beat the bunny girl. She still get best friend status as consolation prize. |

Koga too OP with those time bending powers of hers. That simulation of the future revelation got me good. actuallyimsomad said: Fappa said: Xavian- said: I just hope this doesn't turn into a harem. Sakuta literally asked out Mai and they are officially dating as of this episode. What more do people need? Yep and i think futaba wont fall for sakuta I won't know if Futaba will fall in love for Sakuta as of this post, but Futaba has feelings for Yuuma Kunimi - Sakuta's best male friend - in episode 3 or 4; when the time loop began. |

Yep totally Endless Eight and Haruhi vibes all over again! What I really like is that they also include some scientific parts to it! Really lovely episode and the emotion in this episode was captured beautifully! I am actually glad the time reverted to that one day before everything happened. Really looking forwards to see what's next. |

Poor Koga... but it can't be helped, she has to move on. I was surpised that the entire arc looped back, but I'm glad that she could leave her fake friends behind and perhaps meet those new girls who might become actual friends to her. I'm also very happy that Sakuta could repeat that cute scene with Mai, and with such a great extra at the end. I can't say I'm happy that there are love triangles, but at least they are unrequited and those involved are faithful so it's clear as day that they won't become seperated later. The new girl was the old love of Sakuta, wasn't she? Or perhaps just the same name with another case of the syndrome. |

I feel sad for Koga. She's cute thou. A nice, sweet, and cute girlfriend material. But Mai x Sakuta is too stronk. I feel she still loves him even after things went back to normal. |

How many girls and how many arcs does 13 episodes anime need? Light novels. |

Again, rumours spread like wildfire in this school! Well, well, well, what did you expect... Of course, there will be another time loop because of the fact that Koga fell in love with Sakuta despite the fact that she doesn't want herself to feel like that towards him. I have to respect both of them for what they did at the end, where Sakuta pressure Koga to not lie to herself and confesses her love to him. But when I look at this scene from a different perspective, Sakuta is basically saying no to being a harem MC, so that's an interesting thing right there! Wow, the time actually went back to that football win!? That's actually quite convenient, to be honest. And even more so knowing that all the events that happened afterwards happened this time too (including the bully beat down!) Mai has a sweet way of showing her feelings to Sakuta. But it feels so familiar to... Oh no, stop! The feels... I really love the explanation to how Sakuta was the only other person unaffected besides Koga in the time loop was all because they kicked each other's butts back then, causing a quantum entanglement between both of them. LMAO, a fucking quantum entanglement!!! Who knows? Maybe that's how quantum entanglement works, quantum physics are all nothing but theories anyways. Normal physics don't apply to quantum physics, so the butt kicking might be a plausible scenario! XD I wish I have a cute imouto that wakes me up the way Kaede wakes up her onee-chan... |

Not a bad conclusion actually, in a way it was expected. Blame all the butt-kicking I guess, that was nice parallel. Also liked the fact that we learned Kunimi already noticed Futaba feelings (but is afraid to change current status quo). This'll definitely get even more interesting. And the cliffhanger in the end had me. Seems like his whole Shouko came and saved me was just another of his (future?) fantasies as she's high school girl now. Wonder how this turns out and what's her problem (the cat forcing this dejavu syndrome this time maybe?) |

This episode was GREAT. Gave it a 5 out of 5, wouldn't hesitate to give it a 10 out of 10 either if there was the option. I kind of disliked Koga for the fake dating thing in episode 4, but I warmed up to her in episode 5, but now she's one of my favourite characters! Her character really personifies the social anxieties of teenagers and young adults, albeit exaggerated. But this is anime, one of the media through which we can express such things clearly and without all the subtlety of real life. I really empathise with how she feels, so insecure about her friendships. The moment Sakuta woke up on the same day, I immediately knew what was happening. She had fallen for him, I didn't buy her lie at all. I knew where this was headed. It was going to be unpleasant, sad, tragic, but beautiful. And so I really enjoyed (and was really nervous) watching the repeats. That moment at Enoshima near the shrines. Damn. That was best. What Sakuta said was sad but true. No matter how many times you repeat something, there's no guarantee someone's feelings will change. That's not what he exactly said, but feelings can change when you keep repeating something. What Koga said proves that. She can't let go, because she's fallen for him and keeps falling. She's trying her hardest to let go, accept, carry on. She's trying to force herself, she's half-lying to herself. But that's not working. She has to let it out, to not just accept it but ADMIT it. And it was sad. I was sad. Seeing her cry was really sad... I didn't want her to be sad, nor Sakuta nor Mai. But she's learnt, she's going to accept it. She'll become a better person for it. She's more mature than when this whole thing began. I was really sad that what she said was true, that she was going to lose her friends. But thank God she got new ones, BETTER ones! I didn't like the former group, felt like a bunch of superficial girls. Here's hoping more of her and good things for her in this series! But damn she's really powerful. That was a simulation? Well, technically you could argue that. I don't know what to think. Whether it's something more like going back or restarting the loop, I wouldn't say that's a simulation. But that makes it sadder. And I'm a bit confused. Did the fake dating still happen? Or those scenes are now different, instead of fake dating, they went as friends? If so, that's pretty sweet. I'd like that version. But finally Sakuta and Mai are dating (like really finally!). And then comes Shoko Makinohara. I was really surprised to see her, the OP never revealed her face, didn't think it was her! Really want to know what's happening. Can't wait to watch again! |

Well, I must admit that relationship between Sakuta and Mai works.. With how she'd like him to study more to go to the same university, and how she's giving him some bunny service, and how they trust each other.. It just works.. Even if I didn't really liked her story that much, I'll probably like other stories more, even Koga's story is more meaningful and enjoyable so far, more relatable as well.. But their relationship works regardless of that, I guess.. Well.. Koga is really getting her butt being thicc teases in this show, lol.. ;p Well, I like her more than Mai anyway more so far.. Even if Mai and Sakuta work together, and even if it's alright, I still prefer Koga's character more.. She's more interesting as person to me.. Though, Sakuta will still get whole lot of screen time, and maybe of different sides as well, so won't judge Sakuta still.. And Mai still will maybe get screen time as well.. And maybe if they won't change too much, their relationship still works.. Hm.. This time Koga is resetting time, because of feelings of love?.. Hm.. And again Sakuta with his "true" feelings.. I really don't like how main character tells his opinion as if it's truth, and even naming them as one.. Honestly, it feels that main character follows some possible feelings, but making it as the only truth?.. I quite dislike it.. And I guess he won't change in this, no matter how many times or alternatives are presented at him?.. I guess, it's his choice, and it still works in the end somehow, right?.. Still I quite dislike this personally myself.. I'm not sure, how satisfied I am with ending.. I guess, I am a bit more satisfied with this arc than previous one, though.. Because I honestly like Koga as a character, interested in her.. Even if maybe ending is questionable, it's not the ending to be honest.. She continues her journey.. And so far journey was quite interesting and relatable.. Well, hope she'll be able to have life she'll want.. Though, for now it's really unanswered, what kind of life she has.. Yeah, she might be ostracized by her group by turning that basketball player down, but it might not be the case really.. We actually see her with friends still after that, but is it stable like this, or not?.. We just really don't know.. And that's why ending isn't satisfying, but it's not bad either.. It's just not finished, really.. But the journey so far was great.. Hm, Makinohara Shouko takes stage.. The girl who saved Sakuta in the past?.. Interesting.. Excited to see more.. But maybe it's enough for today, I'd want to think more on Koga's route this evening.. So Koga grew up, as she said, huh?.. It's very unclear definition of what happened in the end.. Will she like manage to follow more something what she'll want?.. Be less with social pressure?.. Or something else?.. It's untold ending, really.. Journey was quite nice, though.. |

This guy gets on my fucking nerves sometimes. His sexual jokes aren't even funny. I give him credit for helping Koga out and beating the shit out of that jerk guy though. Mai really is an incredible character. She's kind and understanding, and it's so cute how she gets shy and pretends not to. I get why Sakuta is in love with her and was capable of feign a relationship with another girl with no other intentions. She is making him into a better person. |

C'mon sempai you gotta' take advantage of that kouhai she's in love with you and shit. Honestly how do you not just drop option A (girl who won't give you affection and doesn't like you much) for option B (thirsty kouhai who needs love now). Sempai must be craaaa-zy. Honestly, bunny-girl is overrated. Even she can tell she's losing. The love is gone. I want a kouhai-snack and I need one now. Yum-yum. This is totally a hentai harem game but it's great how Japan can just side-step conventional plot holes. It's totally a choose-your-girl-path anime but Japan just does romance right. In the west we can't even decide when it's appropriate to talk to a girl. Japan is just like, choose among 50 girls. ...Alright (sweats) if it's what I got ta' do. Pretty good romance choose-your-girl anime so far. I'd have taken my kouhai for waifu and gone home but maybe that's just me. (shrugs, can't all be classy, y'know) She's saying daisuke at the top of her lungs! How do you not just give in, he's totally in love with her, you lying rascal you! |

Wow I really liked this arc, much more than the first one (surprisingly given the general opinion, I know). For now, Koga is definitely my favorite character despite how much she annoyed me at first. She touched me so much... And she's very relatable. I wanted so hard to give her a hug at the end. Sakuta is also a character I like. He is the typical cynical mc but he is very fun. He particularly reminds me of Tomoya, my favorite Clannad character. Mai is also growing on me. I still have a hard time understanding her success outside of her being a popular waifu material but she's easy to get attached to despite what I first thought. Overall I can't say I love this show but it is really growing on me. I wonder what is the next arc going to be about though. The new main girl will apparently be the mysterious one who helped Sakuta with his sister... |

Well didn't expect any less from our rascal Sakuta, causing all this trouble because he and Koga wanted to kick each others butts (damn quantum entanglement). Seems like the timeline has been fixed to one without any misunderstandings (farewell timeline with Sakuta showing that Maezawa guy his place). Cute kiss on the cheeks by Mai there but I fear for some trouble now Shoko suddenly appeared. |

Alright, this episode turned out much much better than I thought. I hoped that Sakuta would go back in time and get together with Mai and had given up already. And not only that, he even got a kiss for that. So far the two protagonists are really good, best episode so far. |
