I loved Narancia's past sequence. It was great that Fugo and Bucellati took after him, damn his past was depressing af. The fight with Formaggio was great, I'm interested in seeing more of the Hitman Team. It's really funny that the members are basically named after food lol.

1. We're not supposed to know what the boss is doing or what he's capable of.

If Giorno has a knack for reading people, that's just part of his character. It's established that he used to watch people a lot when he was younger to get a feel for them and has a habit for staying cool under fire. You might find it annoying, but it's his character trait, much like Jotaro staying cool all the time or Joseph knowing what everyone is going to say next.

2. The cops in Parts 3 and 4 being good has no bearing on the fact that the guys in Part 2 are shown to be bad and the guys in Part 5 are shown to be corrupt. Part 4's police are especially noteworthy for being cops in a town where, as Joseph points out at the end, people are largely supposed to have golden hearts.

Part 5 is basically the opposite setting considering that the city is controlled by the mafia. We've seen multiple instances of this: Giorno bribing cops to do some thieving, Bruno beating up Giorno in public and then intimidating the onlookers, Mista firing his gun in front of a large crowd, etc.

The fact of the matter is that the specific setting has allowed the mafia to take over a lot of the city and criminals get a lot more benefit. As a result, the police are jaded like Abbacchio or complicit.

This doesn't mean that every cop is a shitty person, like Abbacchio's partner for example, but it does mean that the circumstances say that the cops are not largely out to help like they would be in other parts.

You're right. We've never seen corrupt police officers in Jojo before.

But they literally did nothing wrong? They only caught a guy pickpocketing.

They caught Smokey for pickpocketing and then immediately started leaning on him to pay them bribes. When Joseph stood up for him, they started to hassle him as well.

But we are supposed to know if the boss is informed enough to make that kind of decisions, something we haven't seen yet.

Why do you think that Joseph being able to know what other people is going to say next worked, but Giorno being able to guess rightly what other characters think or are going to do, doesn't? Because we didn't know how the plot would move forward even if he was able to know what other people is going to say next, but with Giorno we will know how the plot will move.

I agree with this. Now, my original point was how cartoony was the whole situation by Narancia being arrested for something he didn't do, based only on the hair color he had in that moment (which was dyed). The old woman who was beaten and assaulted provided no other information besides that, and the officers were trying to make him admitting something he didn't do, instead of interrogating him. And we never see something like that in any of the previous parts. In fact, the case of the officers of part 2 is 10 times more believable than this.

Narancia is not being victimized, it was his decision to live in the streets, steal and trust in delinquents.

The thing is presented in a way that we are supposed to feel sorry for him because he was inicriminated and stigmatized by his "eye illness", and the rest of the people being completely indiferent about him self-destructing himself. So yes, he's victimized.

I have seen many people indifferent to homeless children younger than Narancia, and in the case of Narancia he was able to return home when he wanted, even Bruno was upset with him for not wanting to go home. so I don't see how narancia is being victimized.

Because the presentation is so direct that it reaches the point of demonizing everyone except Bruno and Fugo. And well, if you don't see it, I may suppose that you will think that Mista was not plot-armored in his flashback.

No aspect of a show is free of critic, since each aspect is adding or subtracting quality to the show. And if you see my posts of the previous episodes, I'm not only focusing on the flashbacks.

I mean, of course, all aspects are important, but what you criticize about these flashbacks doesn't diminish the quality much.
Seriously, who cares about the armor plot in a flashback that did not even pretend to have tension?

So, we can find good that Giorno was so pathetic to do nothing about being bullied and mistrated by his father-in-law when he was a kid, and all that being solved just by covering a ganster. And we can find believable that Mista didn't receive any of the shots and even being able to calmly recharge a gun while they shot him, to shoot perfectly at his first. And you think these things doesn't diminish the quality of the show?

JeXxTaR said:

And you complain that there are demonized characters in the narancia flashback when the main factor of his suffering was his own fault.

You're not proving me wrong about the cartoony of the situation Narancia was involved.

Narancia's sad backstory was pretty much a combination of everyone else's backstories so far with a twist and I like it. He had a horrible father like Giorno's, who instead of beating up Narancia, beat up his wife and didn't give two shits about his son, lived in the streets as a delinquent similar to Mista, and was accused of a crime like Abacchio, where instead of accepting a bribe at the most inconvenient time he was framed because of his delinquent background and really inconvenient dye-job. If it weren't for Fugo and Bruno helping him out, we wouldn't have seen this insane trap today~

Narancia's been through so much shit like being crushed under the weight of a giant several times and getting viciously attacked by a man-sized spider that I'm really concerned about his innards but his calm demeanor and reveal that he set that car to explode was superb. What was even more frightening was his eagerness to set fire and blow up every single car in the street to force Formaggio to reveal himself but that madness immediately paid off anyway. There wasn't much time for him to celebrate his victory because the rest of the squad may be on their way already but at least Giorno acknowledged his efforts lol

So, what's wrong with that?

It reflects how bad he is as a character.

JeXxTaR said:

Did you forget sex pistols?
By the way, David Production only showed half of the flashback.

Did he have his stand in that moment? If he had it, why didn't he used it? Because he didn't have it, since none of the bullets changed their trajectory.

JeXxTaR said:

And what is cartoony about running away from home, stealing and being homeless?

About running away from home? Nothing, but his father was an asshole who didn't give a shit about him, even before he leaved his home.

About stealing? Nothing. In fact, if Narancia had been arrested for one of those robberies in which he participated, it would have been better than him being incriminated and having one-dimensional asshole police agents forcing him to confess something he didn't do.

But in fact I have seen worse and more ridiculous reasons to be arrested in animes like deadman wonderland, and considering that the author did not go deeply into this, it's not so bad.

Yes man, I can't think another show who did that worse than Deadman Wonderland, it's definitely the worst way possible.

As lots of us expected, we have the backstory of Narancia in this episode. I remember the rumor spreading part for his eye disease, but totally forgot the part that he got set up by the blonde guy.
It hurts to see what happened to him. Cuz the whole story feels quite real. In reality, people could be misidentified only based on their hair color/skin color. And the victims could make some recognition mistakes in certain circumstances, especially when they’re in emergency situations like being attacked. Also it makes a lot of sense for Narancia to fear for the eye disease due to his witness of his mum’s death .

I think his backstory also showcased that

Formaggio putting out the fire with his blood while turning himself small is really something. The Kakugo (determination) in this part is strong af, from both the sides of the antagonists & the protagonists. Anime onlies will get that more and more with the plot moves forward.

I’m not even a huge fan of Nanracia, but he’s quite badass when he fired the whole street and got surrounded by the purple fire.

My only critique for the battle would be the presentation of Narancia getting out of the bottle. Double checked the manga, it’s more clear that Formaggio took the map out of the bottle, which could only happen after he took off the cork. If only they could’ve given it a shot, it would’ve been more nature.

I thought Abbacchio’s chin grabbing scene was an anime addition. But no, it’s just I didn’t noticed that panel when I read the manga. Fxxking Araki!

Finally, that fight was dragging on.
I'm really loving Part 5. It fixes many of the problems that have plagued past Jojo parts. There's a lot more character development here, and the episodes here don't feel repetitive, filler, there's actually a plot that continuously gets built up.

I don't get it why they sent Narancia alone without camouflaged backup, especially when you can't say whether the mission is simply and safe or not if you have unknown enemies after a person you are ordered to protect.

Animation and visuals were great in this episode, especially in the final stage of fight between Narancia and Formaggio. Also, Narancia's past part was sad. :( His mom died, probably after being beaten by his father, then he got into prison after his best friend happened to be in fact an arsehole and traitor. Good that Fugo and Bruno found him. That meeting truly changed Narancia's way of thinking.

Oh, and we learned that Trish is a Stand user! :) So my question from the previous episode was answered in the one after it.

Narancia isn’t dumb, it just takes a while for his brain to process things.

So far we've had three "dumb" characters (Polnareff, Okuyasu, and Narancia), but I would say that all three of them are less dumb and more lacking in common sense. When it comes down to it, all of them are very clever.
I agree with the above statements and I would like an OVA of those three meeting which could totally work in universe.
