| No need. It was inspired by Ashita no Joe. Its not a sequel, more like a spiritual successor. Watch it. Megalo box's first ep is amazing. Go watch Ashita no Joe too if ur not picky about old animation, the story is great, and its a classic. |

| Just watch Megalobox first. This isn't a sequel or anything. It's a reinterpretation. It's like watching a film remake. You don't need to watch the original beforehand. Although in this case after Megalobox i highly advise you watch Ashita no Joe. It's a masterpiece in every essence of the word. |

| You can draw some parallels between the characters, that's about it. Maybe there will some more references or anything, who knows. But Megalo Box can certainly be enjoyed as stand alone work. |

| I think its safe to assume the series will be a very loose remake so there is still some potential that it could spoil the original, but at the same time if the remake itself does an amazing job in its own right does that really count as a spoiler. |
