Commemorating the release of the 50th volume shipping on April 19, author Yasuhisa Hara announced a live-action film for his Kingdom manga on Sunday. Hara also met the production staff and cast, and praised their overall effort.

The historical drama series, which is set in China's Warring States period, began serialization in Shueisha's Young Jump in 2006 and shipped its 49th volume on January 19, placing first in Oricon's weekly rankings with 365,230 sold units. The series also frequents in Oricon's yearly rankings; selling over six million units in 2017 and 2016. Kingdom is expected to have over 35 million copies in circulation after the release of volume 50. In 2013, the manga won the Grand Prize in the 17th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Awards.

Studio Pierrot adapted the manga into two seasons, which aired in Summer 2012 and Summer 2013, respectively. Funimation licensed the series in North America and shipped both seasons on DVD in January and March 2016.

The manga received a live-action commercial in 2016 to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

No s3, no Coalition hype.

Well, it's not like the anime would ever be able to capture the hype of the Coalition arc :P

I remember seeing that manga PV a long time ago and really wished a live-action adaptation like that existed. Hopefully the live-action movie actually looks that good, but that would put a toll on their budget.

Yeah, we already got leaks that the live action movie was in the works, I was surprised I didn't see news on it back then on anime sites. I guess now its "official".

Either ways can't wait. Hope they pick the main cast from the live action commercial they did couple of years ago.

i wonder if the movie will take place after the end of season 2 or if it will be all of it. Showed stuff like his time as a child but that may be flashback.

i think some people felt the graphics in Kingdom wasn't good so maybe that's why they are going with live action.

Either way i'm hopeful a lot of good hints from the trailer.

Probably one of the few series I'd actually hype for as a live-action series. :D

Looking forward to how this will turn out lol.

Everyone knew it was coming, no way that mere commercial for a manga had so much budget.

I worry live action would just make it seem like a generic historical war movie, there seems to be a good number on Netflix already that I haven't really bothered watching yet...... season 3!

I'm more interested in a season 3 but I guess live actions are cheaper than cg animation ?

I guess this one will be a good attempt to dive into Chinese market.
