If it's anything like the first show (art style, fight scenes, story, intensity, etc...) this show is going to be AMAZING! I can't wait!

I incidentally started watching the Basilisk last week and now such news of a follow-up series taking place 10 years later.. I don't know whether I want this kind of heart-break and drama again, but we will see. "History has a way of repeating itself", is what is said.

If it isn't like the original, then they should just give it a whole different title...

@Crossburn It looks like the book publisher hoped to cash on the name by having one of its authors writing a "sequel" to one of its big titles after the novelist passed away.
So, you can expect either something too identical (because the successor wasn't able to make the fiction his own) or something with a totally different flavour who will have you wonder why it was made (because the successor wasn't able to enter in another person's story).

I wonder why they didn't simply choose to adapt one of the other ninja novels of the same author (I think he had at least one other title in relation with the Kôga's Ninja Scrolls)

I'm honestly surprised, I saw Koga Ninja Scrolls some months ago and I loved it. I don't really know what to expect from a sequel, but it'll be interesting to see if the war from the previous anime between the Koga and Iga Clans had any repercussion and if so, to what extent.

Loved the first show, cautiously hyped for this. If the material is by the same author of the original books, that makes me more confident this'll be good. I do hope the cast isn't a bunch of pre-teens though (as the poster seems to indicate).

Same, got notification like "Wait, what? The previous show was so long ago.". It's like when getting the notification about Jigoku Shoujo latest new anime. Just seem to come out of left field.

Set 10 years after the first one? Why do the characters from the poster look exactly the same as the 2 MCs (as kids) from the original? For matter fact, why do we need a continuation for Basilisk to begin with?

Anyhow, I have close to zero expectations for this “sequel” mainly because it wasn’t written by Fuutarou Yamada, not to mention I don’t see the need for it. Instead we got some other author (whose job primary had consisted in being a character designer and animator) writing it.

They should have adapted another of Fuutarou Yamada's works instead of making a sequel of this, imo.

That official art is worrying.... for a number of reasons.

It's hideously amateur, 1.
2. It features all the characters from the first. 10 years after. They're dead. That was the whole anime.

Agreed. Those books are from the 50s, and I know there's a sequel to it. None of the same characters, obviously, but it's a continuation of the hierarchy after they pitted the Iga and Kouga against one another.

I'm afraid, Basilisk don't need a new season.
It is sufficient in itself...

Totally and utterly unexpected that this would get a sequel. I hope it's as good and entertaining as the original. People that come in and use their time just to bash the original just have shit taste. Just look at their faves LOLOL.

I hadn't seen this coming. I hope it'll be good, but I also have some mixed feelings because the story of Basilisk felt finished. With everyone being dead and all...

Then again, these *are* new characters, even if the mains look like carbon copies of Oboro and Genosuke.

Can't wait for this. I fucking love the first series.

Yep all the characters from the first are dead but so what? I don't mind a new story with all new characters as long as it's more of what made the first Basilisk great. When I finished watching Basilisk I was so disappointed to find there wasn't any more of it.
Shoot first, think never.

I'm new at this series, watched the first season a few weeks ago to see if I would liked it or not and I did enjoyed it, but it kinda surprised me that the ending is closed, no strings left for a sequel IMO. So yeah, I'm looking forward to this, even if it has censorship.

Maybe they fight again to choose another shogunate successor, with the last survivor from the first season being a mentor [Edited: Ooops my bad. It's been almost a decade since I watched it so couldn't remember the ending well until I checked it again.]. But the original series ended pretty neatly, so meh.

I loved the first anime but I will keep my expectations low for this one. Different staff, based on different manga by different author etc. I also don't understand why the MC's look like the previous ones...

The answer will probably totally shock you. In fact, main characters of new series are actually CHILDREN OF ORIGINAL MAIN COUPLE, that inherited traits and abilities (magical eyes) of their parents. :D
Raised separately within their clans, now set end eternal struggle, between families once for all.

Its been so long since Ive seen the original. I remember the animation and battles were highly grotesque; but the story was rather lackluster. Being over 10 years removed from the original, with a different studio and staff, I have no clue what to even expect here. This is another one of those reboot/sequels that no one was expecting; the original never really had a fanbase either.

And the fact that the new characters are the kids of original couples; but this season is only set "10 years after" the first season... Meaning the new characters are only 9-10 years old?... Basilisk is supposed to be for a rather mature audience, so thats a little worrying.

This takes place 10 years after the original so yes watch it first as that is what i am in the process of doing myself. Originally i wanted to watch it back in Oct but i got sidetracked by others and forgot but now i am focusing on it cause of the sequel.

I don't know if it's worth watching. I loved the original, for the tragic love story between the two leaders of both clans. And everyone was pretty much dead at the end.
