THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
So that's how they were going to sink the island.
Chakuro gave a good scolding to these hypocrite old guys. Treating everything as inevitable and trying to run away with a mass suicide..

I thought Neri was being possessed by something; but I didn't think she was the "daughter" of the Nuos. I suppose she gave up her body to stabilize the island, then somehow got a new one at the end. Good thing they didn't kill her character just like that.

We got more info from Lykos about the outside world.
Only the empire seems to be against Falena, the other countries don't even know they exist. From what the council said in the previous episode, it looked like the whole world was against them.
That doesn't necessarily mean that they will help them; but it's still a better perspective than being hunted down by everything and everyone.

Now they "just" have to survive the attack in a few days and deal with a few uncertainties within their country. Wouldn't be surprised if the captain of the guards turns out to be one of the villains later on.

I gotta admit, Chakuro is pretty brave...I underestimated him.

The future is uncertain for their Mud Whale country so I hope they are prepared. Felt like a nice buildup and follow up episode. It's also nice to hear more storytelling from Lykos herself.

Seems everyone is united again with good spiri and confidence.

Chakuro is very brave for defending Lykos. He is not going to give up and lose hope. I didn't expect the Nous to be Neri's mother. When she inside it, I thought we weren't going to see her again, but she got a new body at the end. Got to know more about the outside world. In four more days, the empire is going to attack them again, but they will be prepared. There was someone suspicious hiding in the shadows.

Nice episode.

Glad to see Chakuro talking some sense into those elders.

Good world building this episode, there might be a place out in the world that's willing to accept Fallaina.

Final scene was nice but I don't see how Fallaina can actually win against the empire army even with their thymia.

This episode was great and some questions were definitely answered. It was nice to see chakuro’s brave side and ouni agreeing to work together with everyone. Really glad that the elders let Suou take the reigns and it was nice to see more of Shuan’s character and his eye behind the patch.

Neri intrigues me more and more with each episode......

But man am I glad that the council got put in their place and that the dumbass leader guy got rekt....He is annoying af and I honestly don't give a shit if he at least dies

Other than that, the reveals from Lykos has me even more excited to see what this world brings since there are other factions from both our protagonists and the Empire.....Maybe we'll see some cool teamups and or enemies with a lot of cool characters :D

The speech at the end was pretty well, but as usual, Best Character Ouni stole the show and I can't wait to see how he and Chakuro's (Whose also getting much better) relationship grows from here along with Lykos

I wanna wish these guys all the best but it's gonna be hard, and I'll be lying if I said I wasn't scared for these guys since the Empire has them beat in almost every department....

Ouni (And the other guy that wants to die) are pretty badass combat wise but they won't be enough on their own, so hopefully they have a serious training session to get all the other Thymia users (Like Chakuro) ready....They're gonna need to do this if they wanna implement Chakuro's plan successfully (Kudos to him for suggesting it too)

I really hope they at least make contact with another country before the anime ends. I hope they go full-scale, world-changing levels of plot development. I really wanna see what the outside world is like now.

Great speech by Chakuro, he is absolutely right.

It seems Nelli is more important than I first thought.

8 ships, that's quite an army they have, the scary part was Lykos telling them about the many other nations including one which wiped her army out.

Another good speech there at the end by Suou, and Ouni.

Anticipating is building up inside of me, I am fired up after this episode and want to see them succeed against the empire.

I wonder who that person hiding their face is at the end, also saw them with Suou in the preview.

From a world-building perspective, this episode did an excellent job of answering several questions posed in previous episodes, while at the same time bringing yet more to the table. Be interesting to see just how far the plot actually goes in the remaining episodes, as with 7 to go there's still plenty of time to get a lot done.

That eyepatched captain and the old guy should just hold hands and jump into the sand together, they want to die so badly. Just do it :3
Soooooooooooooooooo...there is a big war going on outside of the Mud Whale.
And I was wrong, it was not Lykos who killed the people on that boat. But, it is a good thing to know that the Empire have enemies.

Chakuro deserves to be praised for his actions for this episode. He was very brave to stand up to the elders, protected Lykos and kept the Mud Whale floating to see another day, for now.

Falaina and Neri being related was a bit of a surprise though. I do think that she'll have more roles to play in the story, considering that there's more info about the empire and other potential enemies that will come along and encounter the Mud Whale soon enough.

With 7 episodes left, I do feel excited about this turn of events and where the story is heading to next. =)

I had the jist that Charuko wouldn't be as much of a dick as some people were saying (or well pussy more or less), at least he pretty much did what he had to do. Which is nice and all.

And yeah, going back into this... Not gonna lie the directing is getting better with this episode. I still think the show is amazing don't get me wrong. I still love it but I can understand why people complained about the directing for the past 2 episodes, then again it makes sense with this in the end.

And the world thickens bit by bit, hopefully after this we can get more about it. Not gonna lie also, when a show intrigues me with its world building (just like Shinsekai Yori) along with its characters that's really good.

Phew... After the last episode I had some doubts, but the crisis has been averted.

Questions are getting answers, which was much needed, but I still want to see more of the bad guys, since Lykos' brother's plans seemed to go beyond just ruling an army.

Overall, a nice episode. And if it continues to adress the missing ends left by the first episodes while giving us more needed character development for the good AND bad guys (Ouni, Eyepatch-Dude, Lykos' bro and that crazy pink-haired guy being the ones that I think need it most) and showing us more about the other countries of the sea of sand, this series could jump from a B- to an A.

Sorry, but no.

The show is so pathetic it really hurts to watch and I can't possibly bear to watch any more of their crying, self-deprecation or overdramatic speeches coupled with terrible writing and bad direction. It is shame, really, as artistically, this is very nice anime.
It's true this episode was a bit better than last two but in the long run I'm not really interested in any of those characters and I don't care what happens to them, I already lost my interest and nothing they do can possibly change it. Rather, there are hints of things to come (more grating suffering, more Ryodari, more Ginshu, more Suou... just no). Now I know that any possible good scenes would be later brought down by needless anime tropes, stupid chracters and facepalm-worthy character interactions.

So I save myself from further suffering too and I'm gonna drop this early to prevent any further brain damage.

Ouni, Lykos, and Chakuro (when he's not blabbering like a baby) are my favorite characters so far. I was hoping they would trim out the rest because they just haven't developed into interesting people at all. I don't care that they're being killed off because of how ridiculously they respond to adversity.

The idea of Ouni and the rest attacking the enemy ship and exploiting its newfound weak point seems exciting. I'm interested to see where that fight goes but I hope the focus is moved from the people of Mud Whale to the main cast. They have the most interesting stories so far so it would be a shame if they didn't get the screen time they deserve.

Mass suicide was still a terrible idea, but now that we know more about the world and how the Mud Whale came about, this is getting a bit interesting. I'm really looking forward to finding out more about what the culture of the other countries of the outside world are like, how big those countries are, who everyone is allied to, etc. I wonder if we'll get to it though... gotta defend the Mud Whale first!

So, every ship like Mud Whale has their own Nous which once it's destroyed, that ship will sink. The Mud Whale is called sinners for their ancestor didn't let the Nous absorbed their feelings, no wonder they still have emotions despite of having a Nous. Glad Lykos is there to inform them about the world outside Mud Whale. That there are more ships, and countries, too.

I hope I ain't the only one who wants the elders to die because they're all fucking stupid. Pffffft.

Who the fuck is Neri, tbh? Is she some kind of angel? Idk. Lmao.

Oh, nooo. What happened to Shuan's right eye? ;-; Heck, he's still cute especially his seiyuu. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Chakuro and Lykos managed to stop the stupid elders from sinking the Mud Whale. Great job, Chakuro, for shouting in their faces. Hahaha.

Enemies will be back in 4 days. Jeez. And Ouni will help them. Nice.

Decent episode. 4/5.

Ouni my fucking BOY!!!!! I felt like this episode was a huge step in the plot as well. I like how they're going to seek for help against the empire. Kind of has a Star Wars feel to it.

Chakuro's development has been pretty good as well. I have a lot of hope that he becomes a pretty kick ass character.

Im interested in that old woman towards the end of the episode.

HHhmmm It is still a little weak with the realisation. BTW They are looking for "friends" now, really ? There's no use sugar-coating after such a bloodbath. But this is nitpicking.
There is definitely a huge amount of stuff that is still hidden from us. Falaina has a special curse to it. The eye-patched guy is sketchy and got something suspicious ongoing with his body. So does Neri. I do believe we don't know yet the full reason the elder were so adamant to end their whole species altogether.

Man, Children of the Whales... Now it has ditched everything it had going for it. Good of the author to create an interesting world and then decide to not explore it further in favour of giving more focus to a shitty plot. That plot is so bad that it even manages to blow big holes into the foundation of the world building. Nicely done. Oh yeah, and lots of uninspired characters having boring conversations or delivering cringe-worthy speeches.

I'm honestly sick of authors having a great idea and destroy it by adding tons of shitty characters and a forced plot. You don't need any of those. If you excel at world-building do a freaking adventure/explorer anime. One main character is enough and he doesn't even have to talk or think a lot.

Every emotion seems really forced in this show. I can't connect with anyone and it's really bugging me because in paper I should be loving this. It has great art, nice world-building, theoretically deep emotions...And yet.

It's probably caused by the writing but I can not believe anyone in this story is actually suffering. Family and friends die in front of them and they act unfazed just hours after. I could buy that it is because they are used to death, to hide emotions and to see people die young. But then the mood changes to be over emotional and teary when it suits the plot.

I don't know, I hope I can engage better in this as it progresses.

Big reveal episode. I'm glad we got to learn more about the whole world they live in, what their enemy is like, and what their enemy thinks of them!

lmao wut...at the beginning, when the people with the arrows found out that killing the Nous would sink the Mud Whale, Hakuji was like “why are they hesitating?”...oh idk, maybe people don't wanna sink their island and kill themselves???? What do you expect my dude

So the elders are tryna do things their way without telling anyone, so the rest of the people aren't trusting them as much and aren't really consulting with them when the rules tell them they're “supposed to”...makes total sense to me, I just hope that doesn't come to bite them in the back later (but seeing as they approved Suou's speech at the end, it looks like they're safe?)
