what they didnt expect is that Akko cant use magic properly because of her idol, Chariot. but, of course someone may know this twist beforehand if that person fly to japan, go to the anime studio and steal the script. XD

Me, a troll? Hardly. You and the guy who first replied to me though, you're both either bad at trolling, incredibly butthurt about other people's opinions or lack reading comprehension.

from what i see, you are the one that got butthurt because in the end you're not the only one that expect bad things to happen. so sorry to tell you that you're not the only one that has that "perks" :D

Okay but what about Diana? She was at the same Shiny Chariot show as Atsuko and yet she's a prodigy?

watch episode 20, Diana lost her magic when they are children according to Andrew and Akko conversation but for some passionate hardwork she regain her magic ability

didn't expect this plot twist, kinda sad. Trigger just drop an atomic bomb.

Though I feel like there's something more with this big revelation, like what's the reason for Chariot doing that kind of thing, dang! can't wait for the next episode

I wonder what's the seventh word meant.

True, she lost her ability to fly. But Croix said she was weaker way before that. It was around episode 13, I think. It may also be the case she's slowly losing her power.

Hmmmm. Interesting. So Akko sucking at magic has an actual proper explanation! Nevertheless, Diana went through the same thing, and she was able to regain use of her magic (Through sheer effort or whatever), so Akko sucking even after trying so hard up till now is still pitiable. Well, a handicap is a handicap I guess.

And Chariot using devious means to gather mana. I wanna know what led her to do something rather desperate and deceptive? Maybe it's tied to her inability to unlocking the 7th word.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure there's a good explanation behind it, as Chariot wasn't evil.

The difference is that Diana grew up among witches and in a zone where she can actually use and practice magic, she has been putting on efforts for years.
Akko had neither of those, she grew up with common people and outside a zone with magic, she can only put effort since she arrived at the Academy.

I am thinking maybe Chariot was attempting to give back Croix's magic. I tell you ever since she was chosen, it has be nothing but guilt for Chariot. First probably guilt that was chosen instead of Croix, than Croix lost her magic trying to protect her, so guilt over that, and than as an attempt to give her magic back or at least fo Croix sacrifice is not in vain in get the 7th word at any cost, she steal people's dreams to power herself up, and it feels guilt for that. Just an endless cycle of mistakes and guilt for Chariot since that day. Before she was chosen, she was this happy go lucky girl. Maybe it is a curse.

It was a twist I wasn't expecting to say the least. Akko put some much hard work and effort into her persuit to be like Chariot through out the series so far just to learn the dark truth about what Chariot did in the past would be a very heavy blow to anyone in the same shoes. Though I still don't know everything, Chariot reasons for harnessing this way are still a tad unknown (the shiny rod's part in screams loudly of course) unknown in a more detailed level I have a feeling on where this is going but since I was thrown this twist already I might be wrong with my gut feeling as well now.

Finally Akko realized that Croix is an evil woman. I liked the scene with Andrew in the Street.
I can't believe that Chariot took the magic of those children.
After watching this episode I rewatched the first of this anime and I realized that the young Diana was in Shiny Chariot's show too, seating near Akko. Now we know why Diana couldn't do magic for a while.

When Diana interrupted Ursula telling Akko the truth, I was about to get triggered, they were really starting to drag the whole revelation plot point out, so I'm glad Akko finally knows the truth about Ursula/Chariot. This was a fairly good episode, probably one of the better ones in a while, I wasn't expecting the twist about why Akko can't use magic, I just assumed it's because she's a muggle, hopefully this'll make the inevitable moment where Akko unlocks some super, secret magical power and saves the day feel more natural for lack of a better word.

Though knowing Trigger, some other character like Lotte will probably be the true hero. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sigh exactly like I expected. The story should have focused more on backstory of chariot and croix in the middle, now this "chariot is actually not that nice" feels bad and obviously it only comes shortly before this anime is over to generate a bit more excitement.

Storywise I felt like Ursula would have told akko she is chariot, but not that she actually stole her magic. Also I expect Diana to save the day in the next episode (maybe she will also find the last word because of her intense research?)

Andrew turned out exactly like I thought he would (only much much later)

Am I the only one who finds the "no goal" crowd hillarious? The one guy ripping his shirt of, the firework. XD

What are the chances that there will be a Monster's Inc. like plot twist where positive emotions turn out to be a better source of energy than negative emotions?

A plot twist, huh? Oh well, Chariot's motivations for doing that aren't clear enough yet, so we'll have to wait and see what her motivation and purpose are.

Aside from that, I feel this kind of revelation could have been significantly better with some solid buildup. There should have been proper foreshadowing.

Of course, there's the coincidence that Diana looked up to Chariot and lost her ability to cast spells at one point when she was a child. The fact that Ursula has gone out of her way to hide her identity should mean there's a serious reason. But I'm afraid the issue is that the series is too cheesy and doesn't highlight these aspects enough. They never seem like relevant plot points.

Thoughts:

(A) Diana's magic loss seems to be there to highlight her determination instead and explain who she is today. She never talks about it in a way that makes you think there could be more to it.

(B) Akko doesn't come from a family of witches. They make it seem like she sucks at magic just because of that, but that was clearly just a red herring. And although I don't mind her personality, making her super clumsy does take the red herring one step further. It would have been interesting to see another character without witch blood succeed, just to show that there was something odd about Akko.

(C) Ursula never seems worried about revealing her past. It never seems like she's hiding anything beyond her identity. The show never makes the viewer seriously question the reason she's hiding her identity, even though that kind of behavior should be very suspicious by all means.

(D) The series is too cheesy at times. Convenient "reasons" to put off the revelation - like "Akko, the truth is that..." before someone knocks the door - make it comparable to a love confession that never takes place. I mean, seriously... does Ursula really think a random door knock is more important than such a major revelation? It's like she has no authority in her own room for crying out loud. Things like Diana's magic loss, Akko's inability, and Ursula's revelation could have been major plot points with perhaps great mystery behind them (though one could argue that's not the point of the series). But instead, everyone dismisses them as part of a cheesy premise.

Maybe it's just the cheesy nature of the series. Things go wrong, but good always wins. Blood is never spilled, not even in small amounts. Aside from the lack of mystery that I mentioned, everything is so bright and happy that there's very little tension.

I'm not saying it doesn't work the way it is though. It's just that I see quite a bit of unexplored potential in the series. I may be a little biased towards mystery and dark plot elements, but I highly doubt the rating would be lower now if the series didn't shy away from these elements as much as it does. They would suit this episode's plot twist perfectly in my opinion.

PS: If strong emotions are such a great source of magic without taking it away from people, why not make people happy instead like Chariot did? It seems like she's taking the evil approaching just to be there as a villain. Inb4 the last word is happiness and Akko shows how stupid Croix's behavior is (technically, Chariot did make people happy though). Or maybe the last word is love and that's why Andrew still has her hat (not connected to Chariot enough though? lol). Or maybe it's forgiveness and Chariot just couldn't forgive herself for stealing people's magic? Anyway, it's probably something connected to Chariot's failure.

I theorized that magic is like any form of energy, it cannot be created nor destroyed, just transferred or transformed. As for Akko, her magic is related to Diana's. However, how Diana got her magic back is simple. She didn't get her original magic, her mother transferred all her magic into Diana. After her mother died, Diana learned about the seventh word which meant sacrifice. Diana interpreted that sacrifice meant that her mother took her own life to ensure that she has magic and Diana has since them blamed herself for her mother's death. I'm pretty sure that when Diana learns that Chariot was the one responsible for her loss of magic and was Ursula, Diana might forgive Ursula for robbing her of her magic but will never forgive her for taking her mother away.

Akko will attempt to leave Luna Nova only to be stopped by Diana and Akko's friends. Akko revealed that her whole dream was a big lie and Diana was right to call her a fraud as she worshiped the one who caused all these problems and responsible for her suffering. Diana counters that Akko has proven a true witch and hugs her in the process. Diana will bring up all the past noble deeds Akko has done and finally revealed her condition to Akko. Despite losing her ability to do magic, Akko did many amazing things all the while Diana had to use her mother's magic. Diana was proud that Akko was not a rival but a kindred spirit as they both love magic. It was at this point, Akko learned about the meaning of the seventh word and went to the Fountain of Polaris where it saw Akko's maturity and granted her new magic to prepare for the final battle.

The meaning of the seventh word, sacrifice. Despite all the hardships and both the light and dark of the world, one able to risked their own life to defend others is proof that one is worthy to be the master of the Grand Triskellion. Potential spoilers, Akko will disappear leaving everyone to believe that Akko was killed in bringing back magic leaving Chariot to confess that she robbed magic because she was a coward to sacrifice her own life but now Akko has taken her place. Suddenly, the Grand Triskellion restored everyone's magic and Akko returned, alive showing what the seventh word meant. Akko has proven that she was not only the keeper of the Grand Triskellion but officially inducted into the Olde Witches not known as the Ten Olde Witches.

Wow was that a brutal revelation or what, and a really good episode overall. Feelin so bad for Akko right now. Like others have said, I'm thinking (or at least hoping) Diana will be the one to step up to the plate to get Akko back on her feet.

As for Chariot I feel it's a bit early to rake her over the coals for this until we learn more (was she aware that she was robbing people of their magic? Will Akko be able to reverse this?), but at the very least she screwed up, REALLY bad. :(

On a lighter note, I really enjoyed Akko's and Andrew's little talk near the beginning. It was cute and I'm glad to see the two grow closer.

Just rewatched Chariot's show ( in episode 1).
That black monster was made of cubes.
That means Croix was there.
Was it really just a show (and Croix was helping) or fight between Chariot and Croix.
And moon was fine at that moment, so Chariot damaged it later.

maybe the depths is that
Croix tried to stop Chariot in episode 1
but after seeing the insane power Chariot Du Nord unleashed which could damage the moon...
Croix was tempted by said power
and Chariot only suffered guilt and more guilt and learned from her mistake

soo...

and now Croix is the Villain after being the heroine whom failed!

The finale is once again crucial, once again, masterful how the mystery wrapped up by the character of Ursula and so on has been resolved. The plot, should close the story in these last episodes. I wonder if there will be a sequel, because I would like it. Now we can understand all of Ursula's backdrops, when Croix continued in his wrongdoings. I want to see the next episode right away!

The twist was cliche in its setup but the twist itself was not. It's definitely interesting that Chariot wasn't so awesome after all, and that the other witches actually had good reason to hate her,
