THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- This story follows a learning cellist who throughough the movie learns to improve his skills with the cello with the help from various animals. How can this movie be so unknown is beyond me, from the animal characters to the music it was all marvellous and well directed. Light-hearted entertainment for anyone at anytime. The entire movie was entertaining, but my favorite part was the one with the Tanuki! So interesting and so cute, the duo was fantastic! Takahata knew how to make movies long before Studio Ghibli came to be. |

I agree, Takahata's magical realism and gentleness appeals to me a great deal. I listen to a lot of classical music so I really enjoyed this movie, especially the part with the mother mouse and her child. |

I enjoyed this movies! My favorite part was when the mother mouse came with her child. The cellist is on his way to becoming a great musician |

I enjoyed it, a good story that could had a deeper story because it left you wanting to see more of the protagonist and the animals, but it felt more like a fable. |

Beautiful movie. The beginning reminded me of Fantasia d: The story is very cute and simple, Gauche's attitude sometimes disappointed me but that was just his character. The movie was very sweet and I loved the animals looking for his help. His talent was more important to others than what he actually thought. I really liked this movie! (: 9/10 |

This was nice! As a classical musician myself I definitely took interest in this; and as it happens, Beethoven 6 has always been my favorite symphony so it was cool to see it be the central piece of the anime. I liked the visit from the mice the most. That was cute and touching. |

It was a good movie, but it felt like it was lacking something, I don't know what though. |

This was a pretty weird movie, I had no clue what this movie was about when I went into it so I was pretty surprised when the talking cat came into his house. And the entire segment with him was pretty trippy too. Pretty gud movie though, always enjoy me some music anime. |

So far I don't seem to like these early Isao Takahata films as much as everyone else seems to. I've watched this and and Jarinko Chie and I think I've figured out what it is, there is just this certain cruelty in the characters of these works that makes them unlikable to me. Maybe he's supposed to be showing that they become better people, but that message kind of falls flat in both of these films. The art work was great, and the music was pretty good (but I wasn't exactly blown away by it like some of the people in the comments seem to be), but the story, or the way it was told, kinda just fell flat on it's face for me. |

He's so poor for someone who owns a Cello!😯 It seems to me that not a lot of people enjoy this. But I guess it's my love for music that captivated me about this movie |
She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did! |
