Dammit Rakudai stop wasting your own potential by spending so much time on boring action scenes ffs. Literally the one thing which makes you different from any other action/fantasy magic academy anime is that you have a real romance going on. So why can't you at least focus on that one thing? It's like it first makes such a big deal about how it stands out from the rest, and then it still insists on focusing on the generic aspects. It's like regression

So annoying to watch

The only reason Stella was interested in Ikki was because he walked such a hopeless path so difficult and overcame her even though he had such little talent, and the only reason Ikki liked Stella was because such a talented girl not only acknowledged, but liked Ikki's way of life even though pretty much everybody looked down on him. Their whole romance revolves around them competing in the tournament, and ultimately competing against each other, saying the fights are meaningless is like saying their relationship is meaningless, they should've just got to know each other in a dating service and banged each other to get things over with.

Therefore your statement made me believe that you just wanted to watch some teen romance. Why don't you go read Twilight or something?

Meh. This series has trouble handling both character interactions and fights. Both have parts cut out to the point of being really bland. I guess cramming more than two volumes in 12 episodes can't end in any other way. Too bad something like Overlord doesn't happen more often.

That was so worth the hype the intro built up. And I'll be damned, the Sword Eater (incredibly badass title BTW) isn't anywhere near as "evil" as I thought he was. Damn guy actually knew about Kaito's feelings.

Action packed episode, better then the manga if I had to say. The blade steal move Ikki did to end the fight lacked a bit of impact, but it was still neat to see it animated.

Another bad episode, what a shame, the last two were really good. Some things felt totally rushed. First of all, did I miss something or they skip what was supposed to be the first minutes of the episode? Why did they even go to the dojou? The battle, on the other hand, wasn't great but was fun to watch, although there were moments that were a bit unreal (for example the talking).

Also, the way the battle ended was just stupid. Still, in these episodes we've also seen some good character development and at least we know a lot more about other character rather than Ikki and Stella, so in my opinion the show is getting a bit better than what we've seen in the first five episodes, but still fails to adapt the story correctly, and the pace is one of the biggest problems of the anime.
"Doubting everything that you take on... That is very important. Open your own eyes, clear out your ears, and look and listen to the world... And think using your own brain. After you've doubted everything, there is a possibility of something real to believe in. To believe in something, doubt everything."

Fight was good and to be honest the way Ikki was blocking the attacks in the anime made more sense than the way Ikki did it in the LN/manga. Too bad the nice Ikki and Stella scene at the end was removed. But at least the scene where Ayase and her father calling Ikki was removed probably because to make it more obvious that it's not a harem series.

Really? I thought the manga took a LOT more time to flesh the details out. Way better imo

Of course it will be enough. The only tempo this anime knows is breakneck speed.

I wouldn't say Ikki is too op. He takes time and hits to win. Like against Kuraido he had to wait until Kuraido was out of stamina, if Kuraido wouldn't have ran out out of stamina Ikki's attack wouldn't have worked. Ikki's power grows stronger as time goes by in fight. He learns his enemies attacks and every time he's attacked he grows stronger.

^This. Too bad most people are too dumb to realize that. Ikki does not just "own" his opponents. He actually has to figure them out first.

Funny how none of this was explicitly explained in the episode.
Not how his stamina was necessary.
Not how the secret move works.
Not how he magically runs straight through the Sword Eater's best attack without getting hit.

Stamina..should be obvious. You won't be able to do as much if you're exhausted.

Ikki's "power" in this case isn't really power per se, but knowledge about his opponents
style (I guess it's also the main component of blade steal).

"Grows stronger" = knows more about his fighting style, which logically would increase
his ability to find kinks in the opponents "armor" and avoid attacks.

The move at the end was apparently Ayase's fathers secret move, and if others are
to be believed, probably wasn't animated properly.

I felt that the stamina part was implied enough, but yes, more explanation would've been nice.

I thought Ten'i Muhou was portrayed accurately since the essence of the move is to counterattack without moving the sword away from the attack position. For a move that emphasizes minimal movement, you shouldn't expect anything flashy. However, I do agree that the anime should've explained how the move works.

Well in concept, that move is suppose to be a counterattack move where you exert minimal movement to thwart all your opponent's attack and be able to strike without shifting where you want to attack your opponent at.

"check out this epic secret technique where I run at you with the tip of my blade facing forward! You'll be unable to dodge this ancient jousting attack!"

Found the fight's conclusion to be quite lame. I don't like it when they pass each other with a swoosh motion and one of them breaks down or admits
They do that a whole lot in anime unfortunately.

All he did was charge with his sword and some weird black myst animation around him, he didnt even dodge according to the epsiodes animation, the enemies blades just glided past him and didnt hit.
For our MC it might be possible because of his Itto Shura and resulting speed but if thats supposed to be the best technique of Dojo grandpa who clearly doesnt have Jesus Powers like MC, than his swordstyle is pretty rubbish.

Also, I dont think Ayase ever used this technique in the anime so I dont think he should have been able to copy it. Not to mention that his Sharingan, eh I mean "I saw it so I can do it now too" technique is very cheap/an asspull. Atleast in Naruto it has some magical eye to make it more believable.

I can see why the fight's a bit lackluster, as well. But there are plenty of reasons for that:

People still calling Ikki having "Jesus powers"? That's very hilarious. I think that Tatsuya Shiba has more "Jesus powers" than Ikki.

For Ikki to use "Perfect Vision", he actually has to carefully observe his opponents' movements and it takes a bit of time before he fully understands their fighting style. It's not a perfect skill and it doesn't act like the "Sharingan" where it actually literally copies a person's movements instantaneously. And, Ikki can't use "Perfect Vision" on Kuraudo because of his "Marginal Counter". Ikki can't understand it too well since Kuraudo has superhuman reflexes that defies common sense. There are also other enemies that Ikki faces where "Perfect Vision" is definitely not enough.

Ikki figured out how to use the secret technique "Ten'i Muhou" because he fully understood how the Ayatsuji-style works from training with Ayase. With "Blade Steal" he put it into practice from the knowledge he has and used it to defeat Kuraudo.

He is not copying though he is tracing. Power of observation and a better version of copy if you ask me. By understanding the root and stance of someone he can use it. Since his swordmanship is also superior he clearly can do the technique better than Ayase.

Also Ten'i Muhou is technique which use the most minimum possible movement to evade without breaking the stance.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

This anime kicks ass. Ironically, everything about this anime from the title to the synopsis screamed at me that it was bound to be a generic mess of a school anime, and I was about to skip this in favor of Asterisk. But I give everything at least 1 episode, and I'm glad I did as everything went exactly the opposite. Asterisk turned out to be a load of cringeworthy drivel, and this anime performed against all odds.

Every season there's some generic rehashed school magic anime knockoff starring some "unique qualifier" for the MC [choose "Honor student" or "Failing student"] who [Choose "sees the underwear of" or "faceplants in the boobs of"] some [Choose " School's strongest female student" or "Princess from another country"], then gets [Choose "slapped silly and forced to go along with the crackwhore" or "challenged to a duel"], but since the MC is always secretly OP but never fails to be a doormat, he wins but degenerates into a "I want to protect her smile" fag anyways. Then the rest of the anime, instead of focusing on the MC's original goals, is him getting lost in boobs and butts, going around beating generic thugs and butting into other people's affairs to make himself seem cooler. It ends with MC surrounded by a bunch of useless trophy wives having not accomplished shit other than polishing his giant egotistic penis with throwaways extra characters. (God I really hate those gay moments when someone unnaturally goes out of their way to be a giant, evil douchebag who beats lolis just so MC can jump in with his shiny white armor as the epitome of kindness, strength and righteousness to lecture us on morals, ethics and social justice.)

In heavy contrast, it's quite refreshing to see such an overused genre executed so well in this anime. The MC still retains and is actively working towards his original goal, which Stella is actually trying to help him achieve, instead of running around like a headless bitch with an attitude. Sure there's fanservice, but it's done well never supersedes the plot or direction the anime is heading. In every single one of the generic rehashes I've seen up till this point, the producers always go full retard and throw a bunch of generic thugs as ego fodder to artificially make the MC seem cool and strong, as if they couldn't be bothered to do it through logical avenues, but this anime put together some solid interactions that didn't make me cringe at all the thug beating.

8/10 the highest I've given and probably will ever give for an anime of this genre if it continues the way it's been going. MC and main heroine confessing to each other mid-season, becoming lovers and working through their relationship problems is practically unheard of in this genre. I'm thoroughly impressed.

I still don't find the anime doing enough justice though, especially Ep.8. I'd recommend you toread the manga at least(which is more faithful to the novel), to get a better understanding of the story.

It seems there's not much Ikki can't do with his powers of perfect vision and blade steal. I never get the sense that he will ever lose and true to form he hasn't yet. I wish the fights had more tension in them but this one was pretty good nonetheless.

It looked like Kuraudo had some energy left after that last attack but decided not to pursue the fight. I guess he's saving it for the festival which isn't a bad idea. Revealing all your moves and winning now is meaningless if you lose when it really matters.

Originally, Ikki was getting badly wounded and on the passive, but I'm not sure why they didn't portray that much (as opposed to totally overdoing it previously). In the Novel when Ikki figured out Kuraudo's ability, he grimaced knowing that he doesn't have a way to counter against it. It was supposed to be more intense and the manga adapted it a lot better, and also explained Ikki's attack at the end and why he can use it, I recommend taking a look(Chapter 19).

They should have just animated small sword flicks while he was running to give the impression of blocking, but still minimal movement. As is it just looks like he's charging in a straight line without moving at all. The rest of the fight was awesome, but honestly, that finishing move was kinda disappointing and a bit of an asspull as we never saw Ayase use it for Ikki to learn, just the implication of it.

Ikki, you're so GAR... Even Kuraudo was blinded by his sexiness. Stupid sexy swordman.

The thing I really HATE in that show is the overly melodramatic moments. It just feel so... unnatural. It's not really the voice acting, it's more in the writting. It always seem conveniently dramatic, for not much reasons.

The one that played at the end of this episode (EP8) right before the ED starts? Appearently that track is called "nothing to sneeze at".
