Hmm, I think I get why the title is called Engagement of this episode.

And there's also plenty of politics going around and the election involving Gel. I don't really trust him though. I have to admit that he is attracting quite an attention in public even with his silly poses.

Out of all the times I looked up while listening to this episode, it was great to see the guys from Tsuritama on the beach.

Anyways, Gel-chan and Tsubasa are working towards a more harmonious future, and it's getting a bit grating to see them acting as a duo for such an impossible dream. Hajime's also getting something on by the way she's talking to others as well. Okay episode.

Yuru-Jii is the best :D

Although not a lot of people can do it, I like people who take objective look into everything possible. He was playing Devil's Advocate to make Tsubasa think more about her decision. Too bad she's still naive.

This season is half way through and we still don't have much plot going on. It's very clear that this isn't as good as its predecessor, unless we're given some kind of plottwist near the end.

For some reason I can't put myself to hate Gel-chan, he's way too cute.

Again why Hajime is the best MC. Always asks the single most pertinent question possible. Gel's response was intriguing as well. Hajime makes him uncomfortable, he is attributing it to her having BK in her. Looking forward to his trying to force the separation the two, which is why we can see her with two notes.

Hajime's sparky response gets the heart of problem with any utopia. It would be as boring as hell. This was perfectly captured by all the people showing up at the tree - everyone is becoming exactly the same, and in such a scenario they would be equally boring. A monochrome world would really not be worth living in.

Another very good episode, the individual lines are starting to converge, loved when Tsubasa tried to tell her great grandfather about him not knowing anything about conflict, that ignorance (and arrogance) that mere talking will get everyone to agree with what SHE thinks. Enlightenment cannot come too early for her. Ruri is having his own disillusionment, while be interesting to see how he responds now that he knows the other person was right (to this extent). Welcome to the world you made!

Gel thinks Hajime might be trouble. Guess he doesn't really like her color or the fact that Katze is inside of her.

So what happens in a utopia where people are "united"?
They start excluding and discriminating against the minority. At least that's one of the problems they'll soon have to face.

I've got that Tsuritama reference even not have watched the anime xD

And well, Gelsadra's intention is not that bad, but just like Hajime pointed out, people are different from everyone, there's no way everyone being clones of themselves would ever be considered a good reality.

I only want to Tsubasa open her eyes to this, I mean, she's annoying right now, but because she's too naïve. The only really annoying character is Gelsadra, IMO.

Shit is about to get real interesting. I think this was the calm before the storm.

Of course us as viewers were totally skeptical about Gel becoming the PM. We kind of already know the outcome. But the writing did a good job to help kind of sway people.

We inherently think, "oh ok, this alien has tunnel vision about how he thinks the world should be, and it'll cause problems". Immediately after, we see Gel traveling all over the place, finding out what bothers people, and then solving it: Double pay, lower taxes on income and goods, government transparency and open communication, free medical aid and child care. Almost makes you think Gel isn't totally bad since he literally made the ideal country in a matter of days.

But then came the real issue, the matter of CROWDS that got voted on at the end. Obviously there are very strong feelings about that both ways, and this will probably be the start of the very conflict Gel tried to avoid. Gel, Tsubasa, and Joe are against CROWDS, while Rui, sort of OD, and sort of Hajime are ok with CROWDS.

We also got more of a glimpse on why Hajime and the old man's grey color and their opinions are so important. They basically share the same views. Hajime is kind of vague with her responses "it isn't sparkly, etc" but the old man is very straight forward. Calling Tsubasa out on her ignorance and letting her know the kind of unification she wants, isn't what he wants, and there are other people who feel the same way. And he's telling her that if they don't agree, then they'll be forced to agree, which isn't unification at all.

Hajime also brings up a good point of asking Gel-chan's color. Lol she's like Kamui from PP2. What's the point in trying to bring people together when you don't even know your own color?

You can also tell there's some tension between Gel and Hajime after that confrontation. Gel believes that Hajime sealing Berg Katze in her has affected her. He even kind of stopped doing the breathing thing to notice her.
(and maybe it has changed her a bit, we actually still don't know the long term effects of that).

When talking about the budget, they mentioned GALAX expenses...isn't that entire system created and run by Rui? There shouldn't be any real expenses for that. Also, GALAX, X, and CROWDS all belong to Rui. If they ban CROWDS, how do they think Rui is going to handle that. They can talk all they want, but Rui can choose to oppose them. They cant delete the CROWDS app off GALAX, only Rui can authorize that. (unless they do it anyway and end up creating a plot hole).

They also made a note of showing Ginger Hitler hearing the voting results, which may be important later.

Plot points aside, we also got:
- Tsubasa in one of those sweater dress things. I'm a fucking sucker for those, goddamn. Man, if it had been Hajime or best girl Utsusu in the sweater dress, I might've had to take a break to fap.
- Sugane still has his harem of 3 insanely hot girls hanging out with him everywhere.
- Gel chan almost had a one night stand with a gold digging whore.
- we saw people with a black emotion bubble for the first time, which seems to symbolize embarrassment when it's jagged, and deceitfulness when its round.

My Take:
--------------------------------------------
Yuru-jii and Hajime spittin mad truth.

When Tsubasa was getting put in her place, it flashed to a soldiers pic on the shrine. This is what i was talking about, Yuru-jii knows how the world works because he's seen the horrors of WW2. He is aware that the idealist peace and connection Tsubasa believes in is a load of shit. this is why he says "You know nothing!" and tries to force her to return home.

With Gel, Hajime breaks down his reasoning by asking "What color are you?". This is a question with no answer. Gel has no bubble, or in a sense, opinion. He is merely a proxy for the general public (the 60%). That is not what a leader is. By allowing an entire country to be run by the fickle mood of the masses, creates instability. This sets up a REALLY INTERESTING STAGE for the rest of the series. It is no longer a battle of politics, but a free for all of ideals.

TSURITAMA CAMEO MADE MY FUCKING DAY
Let’s say you drink too much strawberry milk, and have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. You don’t want to get up, but the urge to urinate is just too strong! You run to the bathroom, stand in front of the toilet, and let loose! You think that all your life has led to this moment! YOU'RE STILL IN BED! That feeling of lukewarm wetness spreads! But you can’t stop! THAT’S THE TRUTH OF THE STRAWBERRY MILK! DO YOU GET IT? ~ Gintoki

This episode peaked my interest the most so far. Hajime and Yuru-jii I concur.

Though I was cringing at all the new implementations. Gel basically dissolved the government and is creating a "utopia", which as Hajime said, it's not sparkly. It's boring and monotonous.

On another note, where the hell is Gel getting the money to implement all that? He's cutting taxes everywhere and increasing budget and funding...

I think they are playing it that Gel is getting most of the money from the savings that they made from cutting away the salaries of all the previous politicians, as well as cutting his own salary. Because they mention in the bar scene how much money each politician makes a year as well as the PM himself, and it does say that he cut his own salary to minimum. But still I can't say that that would ever be enough money to support all the funding/budgets that he is pouring into.

(And perhaps cutting money from military spending, since it seems that he doesn't approve of it)

resigning politicians.... well if you can do it alone then why not, you actually increase the countries money to take care of other stuff since if gel-kun really says that they take 20 mil each

yes people wont be satisfied but he turned the whole country around into a complete democratic country

every decision is in the hands of the majority and ge-kun only comes up with the ideas

i like how rui protested that CROWDS should still be used

but as usual this only happens in the first couple of days (short term) in the long term this will all go down

Pure democracy, not democracy as a whole. Pure democracy is merely appetite, the mass rules, the minority is SOL. Representational democracy, where places elect someone to serve them is far less efficient, but as long as the power on the government is restricted, then it is a better system because it slows decision making down, giving time for reflection. Republics (which the US is formally, though less) is even better since it slows down the government even more, and makes any changes far more complicated. This may be seen as being undemocratic, but it serves as a check on mob rule.

Agreed, Yuru-Jii is the best character so far, outside of Hajime. Tsubasa started out as naive, but in this and the previous episode she's been leaning more towards just being fucking stupid.

I can already tell that Tsubasa's story is going to be a fall from grace when Gel shows his true intentions, then redemption when she has to help the proper Gatchaman to fix it (even Hajime is saying that she's not a proper Gatchaman now). It would be great if the redemption just plain didn't happen.

So far this season feels like it was written by a five year old. That scene in the cabinet hall was just painful. Even the dumbest of politician wouldn't outright heckle a duly appointed prime minister. Question his authority, sure, but heckle him like a second grader bully? SMFH

Oh, dear. And here I thought Rui would be the only naive one, though he's only a little naive to me, like he has always sort of been. Now we have someone a lot more naive, that being Tsubasa. Gel's naive too, but s/he's an alien who doesn't know much about the planet in general, and since s/he wants to act quickly to not see anymore sadness or whatever, s/he does it with absorbing everyone's thoughts to quickly, well... TRY to know what to do, which isn't really good, obviously. lol

I'm even more convinced now that Gel might become an enemy sooner or later. Maybe even at the very end like how FLCL did it with you know who.

It also kind of surprised me when he quickly resigned all of the Diet members, and increases and decreases taxes and whatnot sorely from the citizen's opinion and votes. I don't think that's a good thing... at all. lol

Not knowing how the actual Diet works, the heckling going on in the episode was tame compared to the stuff that happens in the British House of Commons when the PM has his weekly Q & A, or even in the US Congress, when a Republican Congressman shouted at President Obama that he was a liar in the middle of the President's speech. So it happens...

I don't agree with Tsubasa, but the old man is an asshole, first trying to be dictatorial in trying to force her to return home, and then even more asshole like taking back training her if she doesn't do what he says. That's not how you treat family.

As for heckling from politicians, I'm not sure, maybe it was over the top, but at the same time it's not like there are Donald Trumps and people who heckle people for hugging Obama like it's some insane crime.

ever since Tsubasa appeared, i can't help but be annoyed at her. I did not know why back then though. Im annoyed at her because she is that person who means well but lacks insight because of her naivety. Shes the short term problem doer but don't look at the long term effects therfore in the end, will probably cause more harm in the future...

... but then again im just tired of the stereotypical character thats all " sailor moon giddy up im the super hero so all should just totally rely on me"

oh and good job on the economic reforms, that won't totally cause problems in the future.

The main flaw in this policy. If political decisions can be made with like/dislikes it doesn't require much critical thinking compared to normal voting process.

Also, you can't satisfy everyone, only the majority.

Removal of checks (see separation of power) -> disaster
Speed of political resolution -> promotes instantaneous gratification, not long term planning

The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.
