Wow, I didnt know it was anime. I like polish opening, altrough I like czech opening sung by Karel Gott better. You can check it out on youtube, Karel Gott has awesome voice, opening is called "Včelka Mája", which basically means Maya the Bee in Czech :D |

To be exactly, it's a Japanese-German-Austrian Jointventure with Character Designs by American Cartoonist Martin Murphy ("Mr. Magoo") like several other Series from that period including "Pinocchio"and "Wickie the Viking". It seems like once these early WMT-(Euro-)Anime had proven successfull they were able to afford hiring "real" Manga Artists for the Drawing as you can see in other Classics like "Rascal the Raccoon", "The Story of Bannertail the Squirrel" or "Anne of Green Gables" |

I bet half the population could recite it. Though today's kids grow up with a disgusting 3D-animated "remake" where the opening is sung by Helene Fischer, because apparently someone decided that all these old kid's shows needed to be stripped of everything that was good about them. |

I could tell it was anime, but I had to look it up to make sure because I thought it might've just been anime-inspired lol. The art style and atmosphere is pretty anime-like, but it's also cartoony enough that I can see how it's hard to tell. |

I used to sing the dubbed spanish Opening of this show when i was 2-3 years old back in the 80s. As many of you have commented, it's kinda mind-blowing to find out, so many years later, that it was our first anime. That explains why i remember it be so good, able to distinguish itself from others and become my first favorite show. |

This aired in Canada on YTV as "Maya the Bee" back in the early-mid 90s, and I remember it well. I'm certain that I saw every episode, although it's been over 25 years since I've last watched it. I must admit, I didn't know that it was anime when I first saw it, but I certainly enjoyed watching it. I'd love to see this get released on DVD or Blu-ray in North America, but sadly, the chances of it happening are slim. |

Damn this feels so surreal...I guess I technically watched this a lot as a kid in full..so uh, so..I guess I owe it a rating...wtf tho, this feels surreal, another Czech here who's been believed this was a Czech cartoon lol, pretty funny. But it makes perfect sense, I remember that when I was getting into anime as a kid I was looking at some of the shots thinking they did look little anime-like but I was just telling myself I was being silly. This feels little surreal. |

Funny is many people in my country dont like anime because it is "chinese cartoons for kids". Then when i tell them bee maya is in fact anime i can clearly see their confusion because maya the bee is very popular here even amongst adults. |

European version got edited and some scenes were removed especially in the first third of the series in order to be less dramatic and violent |
