Very fun first episode IMO. A little "kidnapping" at the beginning. What a happy family they have... Luckily for the blonde haired kid, the Prince saved him from that arrow shot. The CG was pretty well done too, except for a minor running scene in town. No OP this week it seems; ED was played at the end.

Will definitely follow this one through.

The set-up is typical Disney stuff, not bad but not good. Though, that's what Akatsuki no Yona seemed like in the beginning as well, and that turned out to be a really good show, so I'll keep watching.

As for CGI complaints, it was a mix of good and bad, the worst being the falling arrows in the battlefield scene and the best being the palace.

As for me, I didn't like the CGi because it was too apparent.

Arslan is such a cutie pie!! Kobayashi Yuusuke nailed the soft voice.

You can tell that the writing is excellent, I mean, the original material must be very outstanding, wish I could read it from official translation... :( But now, I really wonder how far they can get in the story. Arakawa is now back to work but it can't help that the manga is a monthly one...

It's based on light novels and there are already 14 of them.

No. People will eventually age you know. But as the synopsis says: "He loses everything in first battle at the age of 14". Or something like that. But that's when he is a prince. He'll probably be older by time he becomes a King throughout the end of the show. I'm just speaking hypothetically though. :P

Fun and light hearted opening episode - I actually like that sometimes and I think it did it well. I struggle to connect with such weak lead characters so we'll see how it goes.

Great animation, good CGI, story irrelevant since it's a set-up episode, and above all: a Persian setting in anime. Holy shit. Anyone who says this is generic has a screw loose just for this fact alone.

Finally a series that seems promising! I liked where they were going with this first episode, as it seemed that Arslan had a tendency to question his own culture and the way things are handled in his kingdom (for instance when they killed the prisoners of war). I could see this show becoming really good, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode.

Most of the time the CGI was fine, though there were brief moments like arrows in the battlefield and the chase scene when the CGI definitely could've been better.

I need more time to collect my thoughts on the MC... His family treats him like dirt and he's constantly pressured to become a great king, even taking daily swordsmanship classes. Despite this... Weirdly enough... he is very naive, feminine and happy about everything... That seems... odd... Again, I need more time. He walk up to prisoners who are known to be so violent that they kill babies and he didn't expect them to reach out and grab him... really dumb...

I thought the same for a second, but then I remembered he's only 11 years old, so it's not really that odd for him to be naive.
Towards the end of the episode, he has turned 14 so he'll probably act more mature in the next episodes.

Decent start. The ED and soundtracks are also very good. I have high expectation for this.

Although certainly some aspects of the series are lost in Arakawa's version, the character designs are my biggest issue. Arslan's suppose to have more royal grace to him... and I'm going to get especially pissed when Farangi shows up with her atrocious character design. ლ(ಠ益ಠ)ლ

I'm just complaining, but I still wish they adapted the original novels. With the production values and effort put into Arakawa's adaptation, the original would have turned out amazing. There's plenty of material since it started in the 80s... and it's Tanaka Yoshiki, seriously. Why would they adapt Arakawa's version when barely anything is published? It's going to turn out probably a 1 cour, but the story itself needs much much more than that to be fully enjoyed. The scale is much bigger than what you can cram into 1-2 cours. Stupid milking. OTL

All that aside, I still enjoyed it. Great animation in battle and for cityscape. Scenery was beautiful, and a couple concepts were introduced that will be explored. OP and ED were pretty good.

Who sends infantry running like idiots right into cavalry charge... In a completely open fields... Come on, Japan had its medieval period, why are they showing battles without even an ounce of common sense strategy like in some Hollywood production? When a series starts with something like that I don't even feel like finishing the first episode.

That was how war was before guerrilla warfare tactics. They didn't delve into the battle, only showed glimpses of it anyway. The strategies will come later, in the next battle. Don't worry, the original novel its based keeps the battles interesting, and I've read some of Arakawa's version and overall the plot is kept.

I don't think there was a slave in the Arslan Senki OVA though. Not sure if that's Arakawa's touch or not.

People just have never seen horrendous CG and try to compare it to other good CG. If people ever watched Kingdom, you'd know what some pretty bad CG is, and this is a good comparison as these are both similar shows in retrospect.

Very lazy animation and terrible CGI. If this is a taste of what's to come, then I'm very disappointed.
Nevertheless, the episode was quite enjoyable and the trailers got me hyped so I will continue watching :)
Arslan is your typical ignorant and kind prince (much like Yona from Akatsuki no Yona), and it seems their stories are very much alike. I enjoyed "Yona" so I hope Arslan will deliver as well. Also, I'm a big fan of Uverworld, so I can't wait to listen to the OP song next week.

Yup if Kingdom had this kind of CG mix from the start, my god. I just hope the story will be half as engaging in this case.

Arslan resembles Ed Elric, mentally and physically, Daryun looks like Solf J. Kimblee, The king looks like Von Hoenheim, and Arslan's swordplay teacher looks like Alex Lewis Armstrong.

Arslan isn't even close to mentally resemble Ed, no way.

Episode was pretty decent. Great art (gotta love Arakawa's style) tho animation was a little choppy and just a little bit too much CGI.. Good OST, characters and setting.. Plot is a bit generic but it will do. I'll follow this show and i'm waiting for next week already!

Solid first episode and great setting. Although, the story seems kinda predictable after the first episode (Slavery, starting to question the teachings he as received etc.). I laughed out loud at the portrayal of the religion: ,,Our god tells us we are all equals, therefore it is okay to kill everyone that is different."
