Maria the Virgin Witch - the description makes me chuckle Assassination Classroom - heard the manga is good. Yuri Bear Storm - the director draws me in. Kantai Collection - I want to see what the craze is about Durarara!!×2 - eh, DRRRRRRRRRRRR was good but idk if it really needed a sequel. Hopefully it'll play to its strengths and by that I mean showing Shizuo fighting Izaya. Expelled from Paradise - I actually think it's available to watch now. Tsukimonogatari - more Monogatari Rolling☆Girls - Post-apocalyptic adventures? Koufuku Graffiti: Will it give me foodgasms? We'll see. Like with any new set of shows I'll have to watch them to see what they're really like. |

Probably (definitely) won't stick to all of these, but these are the ones I'm kinda interested in. Milky Holmes 4: Looks like it might bring the fun from the first 2 seasons back Yuri Kuma: Ikuhara yo Doamaiger D: super robots are rad. looks silly. also I like the style in the preview. Kancolle: it's cute. Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata: I like Maruto. I've heard the LN isn't too good, but I'll give it a shot. Koufuku Graffiti: Shaft. Erotic food. iM@S: I mean, I guess. why not. Durararararraaaaaara: s1 kinda sucked most of the time but i still think the setting and characters are intriguing. Rolling Girls: trailer looks fun as fuck. Sakuga. yatterman: idk Go Princess Precure: of course I'm watching this. |

Aldnoah Zero 2: I quite enjoyed the first season and I'm interested in how slaine will deal with the problems left to him at the end of the first season. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: A giant alien Octopus Monster that can travel at mach 20?!!! How could you say no Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata: It's A-1 animation so the art/animation should be decent. Kantai Collection: Was voted most anticipated by male Otakus, gotta see why Honestly though I feel like the Winter 2015 season is a bit lacking |

Takahiro Omori hasn't let me down yet, so I have high hopes for the future of Durarara, I'm pretty psyched that they've already greenlit three cours so I'm excited to see what they do with it going forward. I've heard generally favorable things about Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (manga) but I wasn't sure where to calibrate my expectations for the anime adaptation until I saw Seiji Kishi credited as director. For all that man's inconsistency, wacky slapstick comedy hijinks are something that he's got a pretty good track record with. I'll be watching AssClass with hopeful expectancy. (And thinking about Kishi reminds me that I still have some unwatched episodes of Seto no Hanayome left on my Netflix queue, which I'll have to get at when I'm afforded some spare time.) |

Kancolle - i hope it's similar to Girls Und Panzer. That would be glorious. Durarara! 2 - but I'm not really too excited about it, I'm a little bit worried because of what the last third of DRRR! turned into. The Balls Kuroko Plays with III is a must. Tokyo Ghoul II probably since I already articulated my thoughts on the first season. Koufuku Grafitti now because the idea of ahegao + food gets me wet. I'll probably check the manga soon enough. I'll probably end up checking everything out again and then drop them soon after. There's still a shit load of tittles from previous seasons that I need to catch up with still anyway. HOLY SHIT. SO MUCH JO JO's! |

Durarara!! x2 - Liked the first season so obligated to check this out. Been a while since S1 so I might rewatch. Also Takahiro Omori is cool. Jojo: Stardust Crusaders 2 - Jojo's good but probably not the highest thing on my watch list. Will keep tabs on though. Junketsu no Maria - Code Geass's director working on a "lewd" manga written by Moyashimon's author might be interesting; will check out a few episodes Kancolle - will just check out some episodes and the reactions on Twitter to see if it's worth picking up Koufuku Grafitti - Going to be my cute girls doing cute things show next season. Also erotic food-eating by Shaft. SaeKano - It's by Fumiaki Maruto. Obligated to check this out even though I haven't heard good things about it. iM@S: Cinderella Girls - will check out a few eps. Will most likely drop it and then pick it back up once it's over. Yurikuma Arashi - Ikuhara anime. Definitely going to follow this one. Tsukimonogatari - pretty much a given Go! Princess Precure - will watch and probably fall behind just like I did with Happiness Charge and Dokidoki |

From most to least expectations: YURI BEAR STORM - Ikuni-chan Death Parade - the Death Billiards OVA was excellent. Promising director. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders - ugh, still need to catch up with the manga... The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls - I want K-On!!! Yoru no Yatterman - may have good animation based on the PV and the staff Tokyo Ghoul A - season 1 had (many) problems but the last episode was superb. Hopefully this one will keep up. Maria the Virgin Witch - haven't seen any Taniguchi aside from a few episodes of Infinite Ryvius but sure, why not. Rolling Girls - may God have mercy on Studio Wit Go! Princess Precure - might as well pop my Precure cherry Koufuku Graffiti - SHAFT... |

So here is the sum of my theories after one Yuri Kuma Arashi episode and some tweet-reading. Kureha and her girl friend are in a "class S" relationship. They preserve their purity and run away from anything vaguely sexual that might turn their pure, "platonic" class S relationship into a homosexual one. For example the bears, who are straight homosexuals and accept their sexuality and love but, unlike class S relationships, are frowned upon by society; and the invisible storm, which I interpret as puberty*. (It destroyed the lilies, which is a symbol of their purity. I don't believe it is a symbol of their homosexuality and hence the invisible storm of homophobia, because the bears are homosexual as well.) *I think that the invisible storm might specifically refer to periods, as it is one of the most noticeable change in (female) puberty, but maybe it doesn't need to be that specific. Periods are also sort of overdone already in anime symbolism: the giant period monster in FLCL, Nanami's egg in Utena. Ikuhara asks if Kureha's love is real, and so might be asking here to acknowledge that class S relationships (in the media? in real life?) are no different from lesbian relationships. Or maybe, that lesbian/homosexual relationships are no worse than class S relationships and that people have double standards. I can see the end of the series with the bear side being depicted as righter than the protagonists; it's Ikuni we're talking about. I am not sure how the Sankebetsu attack will tie thematically into the series. Perhaps, unlike the sarin gas attack in Mawaru Penguindrum, here the attack is just used as an aesthetic reference rather than something to talk about. It should be noted though that if the humans are responsible for the explosion of the asteroid that woke up the bears we could make a parallel with the attack which people blame human deforestation for. (Bears don't usually attack humans, but deforestation reduces the availability of natural preys and the distance between bears and humans.) And then there is also the Wall thing. So, are those bears (homosexuals) trying to corrupt the public's cherished class S relationships as a "revenge" for being discriminated against? Also of note: - Arashigaoka means Wuthering Weights. - The school and the trees around it are a pink triangle in a green circle. - There's a photo of the attack in Kureha's room. - The opening by bonjour Suzuki has a french verse at the end saying "I need you". French might be reinforcing that platonic, pure romance. Also I rewrote this in a blog post so you can get the better version over there I guess http://thequietreviewer.com/2015/01/08/your-guide-to-interpreting-yuri-kuma-arashi-episode-1/ edit: I added some corrections/additions to my theories in the blog post :P Definitely check it out. |

Kuroko no Basket 3 episode 1: The first episode was 50% recap, and 50% introducing a character who has been shoehorned into the backstory of the Generation of Miracles, in order to give Kise someone to fight in the quarterfinals. This guy is a douche, and this match could have easily been skipped, there is no doubt that the semifinals will be Seirin vs. Kaijo and Rakuzan vs. Shutoku (eventually leading to a Seirin vs. Rakuzan ending). Basically, this is obvious padding to try and prolong the series run, since its ending was already set in stone. |

I've started each of my shows for the season, so I'll list them in order that I watched them: Yuri Kuma Arashi - So, this show is about lesbian bears and I have no idea what is even Tsukimonogatari - A breath of fresh air when so many shows are such garbage. I love when new -monogatari series entries come out. They're consistent and enjoyable. Platinum disco gogogo Ansatsu Kyoushitsu - Energetic, colorful, and interesting. Nothing too spectacular yet, but I could easily see this being AOTS if nothing manages to top it. That said, this season does have some stiff competition, so we'll see where the rest of the series goes. So far, I'm looking forward to it though. A lot of good things happened here. It did a solid job at not meeting my worst expectations. Stardust Crusaders II - I have mixed feelings so far on the first episode and the new cast member, but it's still JoJos and still a quality series that I expect to end spectacularly. Junketsu no Maria - A lot more fun and compelling than I anticipated. While the fan service is something I could do without, it was by no means excessive, and there are some plot lines established that I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome for. It doesn't seem like your typical series, and I'm glad I picked this up, because I had been really torn on whether or not I expected it to be worth my time. Tokyo Ghoul √A - The first episode of the new cour was better than the entire first series. If it can keep up this momentum, this could end up being something very much so worth watching. Very pleased so far. Kuroko no Basket III - Such basketball. Much hoops. Superpowers, wow. I want to see Kise smash this asshole's face in after he beats him. Kise is top tier husbando. Death Parade - Not quite a rehash of Death Billiards, but still quite similar. I hope the series has an overarching plot and some more compelling story lines to follow. Not that an episodic series on this premise would be bad, by any means, but it could be so much more, and I hope it follows through on that. This is shaping up to be a great season. The only show I didn't "like" wasn't even bad. Just absolutely what is happening. Since when is winter season full of quality shows? |

It reminds me a little of manga like "Bastard!!". Maria's manga artwork is also surprisingly decent. The anime looked a bit Akira Toriyama-ish for some reason. |

OK, now that every show I'm watching this season has passed 3 episodes (the episode at which I rate things), here's my opinion on everything I picked up this season, from worst to first. 8th: Aldnoah.Zero 2 Impressively, WORSE than the first season. By pussying out on the massive change implied by the first season's ending, and having EVERYONE that was implied or all but flat-out stated to be dead magically be alive, all we're guaranteed is more of the same, only with an even more unlikeable Slaine whose motives don't make a fucking ounce of sense. 7th: Yuri Kuma Arashi I can't believe I have to say this about an Ikuhara anime, but this is not how you do symbolism. The only purpose the symbolism here serves is to disguise how otherwise stupid this show is. Almost everything in it is just an unsubtle metaphor for sex, puberty, social exclusion, and bigotry. Besides maybe episode 4, the whole show could have worked more or less the same without its Ikuhara-isms, and were that the case, it would be painfully obvious that this is a vehicle for lesbian porn. 6th: Kuroko no Basket 3 I normally like Kurokos, but this first game has been awful. It exists for the sole purpose of padding, since the conclusion was obvious before this season even began, and since there is only so much space inbetween here and there to fit more material in. Haizaki is an irredeemable douchebag, what little semblance of a character arc he had was just a rehash of Rarity Murasakibara's arc which was much better, and Haizaki's ability makes even less sense than the usual Kuroko batshittery (which is usually just up-to-eleven takes on regular basketball, which I am usually okay with). Haizaki is also crammed into the backstory of Teiko despite having never been mentioned before, ever, just to give Kise a rival. And almost every line of dialogue centers around how much of an asshole Haizaki is. 5th: Saekano Oh, look, it's another fucking harem anime. But this one is aware that it is a harem anime, a fact that it will demonstrate by telling you it just used a trope every other time it uses a trope. You know, if someone punched you in the face, and then told you they just punched you in the face, it would still hurt. 4th: Death Parade This is probably going somewhere, but for now it's quite unremarkable. The first episode was just a rehash of Death Billiards (complete with the painfully obvious twist), only with more awful yelling and over-the-top facial contortion that makes it very hard to take seriously. The second episode was a whole episode of them talking about the first episode, painfully spelling out the implications of the first episode and making any justification for the ambiguity moot. The third, on the other hand, was much nicer, with the realization that they're dead leading to a heartwarming conclusion instead of the overblown mess of the first episode. The twist, whilst wholly unnecessary, was still interesting. This show could go either way at this point. 3rd: Ass Class This show is extremely offensive to me. My father was killed by a rubber knife. Anyway, I've been reading the manga since it started, and I'm quite pleased with the adaptation. The directing in the first episode was especially impressive. The mixture of slapstick and black comedy is always a winner for me, although the second episode wasn't anything impressive. Karma's introduction was pretty great, though. Let's just hope this doesn't get cancelled. 2nd: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders - Egypt Chapter I know goddamned well this is going to be the best anime of the season by the time it's over, but most of the best fights are stacked towards the end. However, even the weakest fights in Egypt Chapter are still pretty good. Surprisingly, I actually like the OVA's take on Geb more (it was one of three battles that the OVA did justice to, alongside D'arby the Gambler and... well, Justice). Oingo & Boingo were comedy gold, though, and I appreciate the amount of care David Productions put into this to make a custom ED theme for the Oingo & Boingo episodes. I'm most impressed with Anubis, though. This was one of those battles that could have really shined with some good directing, and unlike the chariot race from Part 2 (another fight I would have said the same of), DP really came through on this one. The atmosphere and choreography were excellent. Also: Easter egg game too strong 1st: Durarara!!x2 Shou Oddly, the first four episodes have only really served as an introductory phase for the new characters. However, the new characters have been really fun (in particular the Orihara sisters), and the various story threads that have come together have been more reminiscent of Baccano than the first season of Durarara. The setup for the next arc has me looking forward to the rest of the series, though, with Aoba having been revealed to be the brother of the Blue Squares' leader, and planning to outdo Izaya at his own game. Also, lots of Russians. So hopefully we'll get some backstory on just who the hell Simon is. |

The problem I've had with Death Parade these past episodes is that in nature they're very bland in atmosphere - too much surface-level interactions that apparently don't have meanings to characterization nor development (unless it's all a grand build-up of some sort, which I doubt) - and consequently fail to establish any really special, solid world-building. It also has the filler feel to it, frankly, and I dunno. Pls go back to being episodic or smt |
