This was just... not good. Sorry, Oshii, I love you for Angel's Egg, Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, etc. but this was a whole lot of cliché, ugly CG and live film, and a really obnoxiously bombastic attempt at being Significant and Profound. This is no 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's not Chris Marker's Sans soleil, either. Hell, this even makes the "qatsi" trilogy look comparatively appealing, and that's terrible.

The score from Kenji Kawai starts off sounding good enough — pretty much a rehash of the choral score from Ghost in the Shell, except that unfortunately this time it's filled out with a terrible "worldbeat" sound, like the kind of faux "ethnic" music your grandma might buy to go along with her Delerium and Afrocelt CDs.

This was way to abstract for its own good. I'm pretty sure the producers had something in mind when making this but the connections between the different parts don't really become apperent during these 35 minutes. It didn't help that the CGI looked pretty ugly at some points.

Yeah it was a little too abstract and about 15 minutes too long. I did think the music was good for the first half(would have helped if they changed it from Ghost in the Shell 2), after that it got kind of boring. Some of the CG was pretty good and had a very calming effect with the circling theme but by the time it got to the aye aye, I was gone. Didn't know what was happening at all. And they only showed those cool things that are in the display pic, in the very end and only for about 15 seconds. I was looking forward to those.

I don't really have anything terribly bad to say about it other than it was unmoving and boring, and nothing good to say about it other than it had Kenji Kawai music. This is the first and only Oshii work that has underwhelmed me this much. Bad CGI was a downer as usual.

Would have a hard time recommending this to even big fans of Oshii. Pretty much only for completionists. Having said that I myself fall into that category and I've dealt with much worse to work towards completion goals. The light runtime makes it more bearable, but it really is completely skippable and whatever.

Disappointing, too abstract and long for its own good. While its not outright bad or terrible, when you make a 35 min long piece of animation, only symbolism without any kind of story or dialoge can not make engaging enough for me.

Too abstract, I agree.

Extremely abstruse and the message/theme it tries to convey is not palpable for me within its half an hour duration of watching. The one decent thing that worth-salvaging from this show for me is Kenji Kawaii score albeit admittedly I am not really impressed by it.

Maybe it's wasn't the time for me to watch this and truly appreciate it yet.

I really came for the OST, which frankly carried this whole enterprise. A nice, dreamy atmosphere.

Rather than "traditional" animation, I would categorize this simply as art. Having a proper plot would perhaps be beside the point. That being said, the CGI has not aged well, and the live motion was a really awkward.

Nonetheless, it was different than the usual fare, and has some value just for that.

I almost glimpsed Motoko Kusanagi naked with this song.

The songs were good. I came here for the songs. However, the visuals were so weird, especially the babies part. It was freaky. I didn't get the visuals at all.
