They could put bit more effort into the fight scenes, though.

So, Satsuki is after Naruto, One Piece and Bleach?

Anyway, very intense episode as usual. I really like Mako.

What an insanely fun show.

I love how Mako casually mentioned that her father kills people for their blood (because its expensive), that's how she knows that when you die from blood loss you are dead.

As for her saving Ryoko being cliched. OF COURSE IT IS, THIS ENTIRE SHOW IS A CLICHE. From start to finish, that is what makes it so much fun.

New Year's break. Bah humbug.

Well, this ep was pretty cool, but i expected more tbh. The previous eps' ending really built this one up. Although i did like finding out this Nui girl actually did kill Ryuko's dad. They could've easily decided to leave that end loose. Plenty of people were sceptical as to whether she actually did it. Her fight with Ryuko's dad does explain her eye patch though.
I think it'd be really interesting seeing Satsuki and the elite four tackle the other schools. Should make for some epic battles! I'd love to see Nonon back in action better than ever ;p
Also, gotta love Mako and her comment on the blood loss. Reminds me of those signs you see on the net that go something along the lines of: 'wet when raining'. No shizzle sherlock!
Lastly, seems like Satsuki was just keeping Ryuko around all this time to test the elite 4? Make them stronger in order to combat the other schools?

Satsuki playing a role other than a villain. Interesting.

Mako stopping the whole thing with the power of friendship was really cliche and boring. I wanted to see more of Satsuki in her full power.

If Harime was that strong, i wonder how powerful Satsuki's mom is? I hope we can see another members of Nudist Beach beside those two, maybe someone who's on par with Matoi or Satsuki..

So I finally got around to watch episode 12, and holy shit this episode did not disappoint the slightest.

Harume Nui vs Matoi Ryuuko was really well made, and it went batshit insane from the very moment it started, even though Nui was some levels above her, even after Ryuuko went into Monster mode by the looks of it while spouting shit tons of boiling blood all over the place, this fight was really entertaining to follow, and once Satsuki decided to enter the battlefield, the hype for this episode went over 9000!

Tsumugu's traps never stops to amuse me, all the bombings and EXPLOSIONS! I can't wait to see more of him once he gets his Power up when he is going to train from the very scratch for him to even come close to Matoi, Satsuki and Harume's level. Dis gon be good.

The death flag for MAKO went through the sky once she "swam" her way between Satsuki and Ryuuko to calm down Ryuuko, which is succeeded! I feel the author and the director of the show is teasing with us when it comes to Mako and her possible deaths in this show.My heart can't take it!

Kinryuu Arimoto lending his voice to Isshin Matoi, I knew I recognized the voice right away when he spook in this episode, but I find it a bit bizarre though, cause I've seen him voicing in other 2 anime that I've watched and all of them has died in that show, now including this one. Nonetheless, his voice is like a father indeed, and when it comes to Isshin himself, seeing cutting Nui's left eye was a satisfying to see that this girl suffering a bit as well. Also someone noticed that when she coughed, she coughed up cottons? Could this be a hint of what she really is? Hmm

Also when Nui says "Muda Muda Muda!" I can't stop but thinking that this was another JoJo reference, so badass!

As for the scene after the credits, I feel this shows how there is a possibility of Satsuki and Matoi teaming up in the future, which I'm really hoping for, and this "BATTLEFIELD TRIP" sounds really interesting. There is no denying that Satsuki is planning a grand scheme at the moment, and I'm looking forward to it when that is revealed!

Overall a really intense episode with shit hitting the fan and some really great action with amazing OST by Mr. Sawano! The budget was well spent in this episode, and dem asses were shown in full glory for the viewers pleasure, not bad, Trigger.

Holy shit, what an episode. Definitely one of the best ones so far, along with 3, 6 and 7.

Interesting how much of a change of tone this episode has. Blood fricking everywhere. Plenty of action, too: Nui, Ryuuko, Tsumugu, Satsuki, even Isshin Matoi, showing the badass old man he was. Speaking of which, him slashing Nui's eye was incredibly satisfying.

The break is disappointing, but at least the OST will be released by Christmas so the wait won't be so bad. Battlefield Trip? Conquer the big three? Next year is going to be AWESOME.

I was hoping they'd improve, but safe to say the fights will be the same, poorly animated, repetitive attacks, etc.

Like I said in an older thread, this anime is at its best when there's no fighting

Yes, sometimes they use "still images with talking", but the fights are explosive, action packed, well directed and the animation is really good and fluid.
If you don't like them that's fine, but they are by no means bad.

Maybe that argument would be somewhat justified in some prior fight scenes. But seriously, there is some awesome fluid action between Ryuko and Satsuki this particular episode and you complain?

Honestly? What else were they supposed to do?

Let's look at it this way. Ryuko has gone berserk, she's losing lots of blood, her life is in danger. Nui is taunting her in an attempt to hasten her expiration, and now Satsuki has decided to permanently put down the girl being worn by her clothing. Now, either:

A. Mako watches. Satsuki kills Ryuko or Ryuko dies from bloodloss.
B. Mako watches. Ryuko ends up defeating and killing Satsuki; she still dies from bloodloss.
C. Mako steps in and attempts to calm Ryuko. It doesn't work, Mako is saved by Satsuki at last minute. Ryuko dies.
D. Mako steps in to calm Ryuko and is slaughtered. Ryuko remains berserk and dies.
E. Mako steps in to calm Ryuko and is slaughtered. Her death snaps Ryuko out of her state. She is then left in depression for a few episodes because her closest friend's death is her own fault. Before long, she becomes "re-inspired". TTGL all over again.

The friendship route was the best route for a number of other reasons. Firstly, it was blatantly foreshadowed earlier. Mako has always been the one thing that calmed Ryuko and took her mind off of revenge. It actually makes sense for the "power of friendship" thing to work, considering this. Secondly, as illustrated above, it was really the only option. Thirdly, what else were you expecting? Trigger doesn't subvert or invert anime tropes; they OVERPLAY them, which is what they did this time in regards to Mako's repeated slapping. Really, it wasn't all that bad.

Nah I'm definitey watching Kill la Kill. I'm a sucker for well animated fights (not one good fight could pass me by without me recognizing and praising it) but they are few and far between in this series. I actually liked the 3rd ep, but that Satsuki/Ryuko fight is a great example. Half the fight is spent them flailing their swords (no body movement added) with re-used animations over and over. Other sections of the fight were poorly implemented CG, canned screenshot of one character throwing an attack, switch screenshot to other character blocking, followed by explosion, etc. Uninspired probably best to describe it. "Well directed"? No.

It's justified for most of the fight scenes. I kinda already mentioned the instance where they had some decent animation between Satsuki and Ryuko in this episode that was shortlived. It's not like I ignored it, just the majority seems rushed. Dunno if that's their style but it doesn't look too great in motion.

I disagree, the only "uninspired" fight was Ryuuko vs Gamagoori, but i agree when you say that the CG is pretty bad, they shouldn't use it. Also in my opinion Imaishi is one of the best directors in japanese animation, he has a unique style and he is doing a great job with Kill la Kill.
