I thought that Urabe's punishment was that he lost his hands, when I first saw it, but I guess they just poked holes in them, or cut them, or something.

Well, why not? He's insane, despite being a genius, so it's only natural. :3

Looks to me like they broke all of his fingers as they looked all kinds of twisted up. Anyway, Akagi is a crazy bastard.

Insanity is awesome.
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.~

I am now convinced that Akagi is a demon that can indeed see through Mahjong tiles.

His reasoning made my day! I loved the episode. Can't wait to see him find a matched opponent.

"if you leave without telling me, I won't be able to sleep tonight, it will be torture."

I had the same exact thoughts at the start.

Then just slowly making sense of all the mindblowing thought process, too awesome

Holy shit, that thought process mode by akagi was so fucking awesome. How the hell did he thought all of that up ? What a monster he is :) Urabe got screwed.

Not a bad episode but it took so long to explain how he won that it almost felt like a recap of the match. Also, the narrator "spoils" the story yet again ;_;

One of the strongest episodes in anime, and certainly the best Akagi episode thus far. I didn't fully catch everything, and still have only picked up "Hon" or about Half of the complexities of Mahjong including the terminonogies (with the aid of multiple wiki pages open after an hour + research), but even still it was great. Akagi is such a demon. Love him. Perfect complement to Kaiji.

The first half did felt like recap as I didn't knew anything of mahjong. Lastly we got to see Akagi is new Japanese Demon!

Note: Btw I forgot that little boy's name but he looks really weird at the last minute.

Against all odds, the one tile Akagi left on the table happened to match perfectly with Urabe's last tile, making it the deciding move in that really high-stakes game. It's very intimidating to see him completely read his opponent's psychological state through every single gesture he did during the game. Now the guy's hands are crushed and he has millions in debt but it's either him or Akagi and no one wanted that to happen anyway.

He's on a streak so it won't be a surprise if he keeps betting higher and higher in riskier backgrounds.

I actually liked Urabe, but knew he'd lose. Akagi was crazy at the end, loved it. I think I know who's coming up next (didn't watch the preview, though, of course)!

This series is fucking insane! I don't know shit about mahjong yet I'm liking it more than Kaiji (not accounting for recency bias ofc)

Actually lol'd during the moment when Akagi's 2pin was revealed and Urabe's face got blurry and was twisted for like half a sec lollll

Jesus fucking christ funny how having a death wish looks like a crazy thing to do, but only in akagi's eyes its the most logical and reasonable thing to do... to truly experience what life is about. Self indulgence at its truest core.

Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.

Akagi revealed the basis of his playing this episode, you have to understand your opponent to their most primal instincts. I will give it to him, he is a really smart guy able to pay attention to so many details and remember them all, but if there is one thing I understood this time, is that he doesn't play the board, he plays the players.
