1) Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu)- LOGH is the Treasure of Mal Elites and it deserves the praise and acclaim. One can't be considered a True Anime Fan without having experienced this amazing journey and story. Legendary 9.9/10
Yh I agree. What you said is all true. Beside all the kids from the 2000's are watching Anime nowadays it's getting mainstream soon. Japan 2020 is gonna be huuuuuuuuuuuge for Anime imo. God bless Lord Gaben!
I rate my shows ridiculously casually as you can see I rate most of my shows 10 and 9's I don't really care about ratings I just do it because 9 inch is a good size and 10 cuz 10/10.
Rating is flawed here most of the kids just follow the hype train. What they see on the net they believe. I hate kids. Why am I rambling. boobooboo
The review I made about Terra e isn't on MAL it's on a blog where I write some weekly reviews about airing shows and some other stuff. If you're curious and want to read it here's the link:
Beware it is quite long and my English is sadly, not so good at least not as good as yours :/
Yeah I gave fairly low grades to the movies but I guess it is linked to my problem with movies in general. It is hard for a movie to impress me mostly because I consider the length of it as an handicap, that's why I usually prefer series over short movies or even short anime. However everything I rate 5 or above means that I enjoyed it. 5, the average means "Meh". So 7 or 8 is pretty high for me.²
I agree with you on the good cheesiness of old shows. Especially for my favorite one Saint Seiya. I see yours is DGZ and if I recall those two plus Hokuto no Ken were called the Big three of the old generation. I indeed find them charming and epic. Even if they highly rely on some easy tropes such as the power of friendship and such things I'll forget them, simply because they are the ones who invented it. Also there's nostalgia, which makes me more incline to love those shows even more, like I used to as a kid. Furthermore I have some sort of fascination for old anime and I prefer discovering and watching the classics rather than focusing on new series that sadly are most of the time really forgettable :'(
And yes, I fully agree with what you said. I always like finding some connections between the issues brought up in some animes and what's happening in real life. It doesn't happen a lot recently, that's probably another reason why I prefer old shows.
I don't pay much attention to MAL top anime list anyway most of the time it's the series that have the most visibility that make it there so heh, I don't know, I prefer to find hidden gems like Terra E and spread the word that the show is good. Sadly for Terra e, our crusade to get the anime the recognition it deserves is going to be though. Although I sometimes see people with the show in their favorite which makes me really happy.
Thanks! I'm glad to see someone who also enjoyed this anime! It is quite rare but it makes me happy every time I encounter a fellow fan! I still love Terra so much that I actually made a crazy ass long review about Terra e...fan girling a bit too much about the show.
I've actually started LOGH! Well, to be more precise I'm almost done watching it X) ( I'm around episode 93 or so). It was on my "hold on" list so that's why you did not see it.
Right after writing this comment on Terra e I decided to try LOGH and I wasn't disappointed at all! It is truly an amazing show... I don't even know where to start to describe how much I'm impressed by it. Like you mentioned, I'm quite an old school fan, I fail to explain the reasons but I definitely find old animation charming, so LOGH's one is perfect.
As for the plot and thematic is a win for me, I love socio-political stuff. But what I like the most is the non machiavellian tone the show took. No side is right and the other wrong, everything is relative. I think the perfect example is Yang wondering if an autocracy governed by good people would be better than a democracy directed by corrupted people. This kind of thought is still actual nowadays.
Also the fact that the show presents real politics with some hard decisions, like Reinhard hesitating to let that planet being destroyed in order to use this event against his opponents.
There's a lot more but it'll be too long to write everything down and I doubt I'll do the show justice with my poor analysis.
All those things that I had found in Terra e ( although it was less present) made me fal in love with LOGH, it's definitely going to be in my Top anime once I'm done watching it :)
Well I finally got to Legend of the Galactic Heroes and no doubt about it, I was very impressed indeed. Easiest 10/10 I've handed out in a long time. It was like watching history unfold and the ending made me both agonize over wanting to see more but also respect that it knew where to draw the line. The flow of events was so impeccably natural and organic.
Woah man, if that happened then I'm pretty sure LoTGH will earned it's rightfully place as the #1 animu in ranking :D
I do love Yang as well :3 but I'm only putting 1 character only per series. Yang would definitely get in my list if it wasn't for Mal 10 fav characters spot limit.
I find Julian to be a much more realistic character compared to the likes of Shinji Ikari etc.. ( SORRY NGE FEGS XDD )
It's really nice to see the admins taking actions ^^
And I have seen that alot of people has decided to watch LoTGH, more fans is always good for the fanbase :D Hopefully we will see the day when Reinhard/Wenli has 10k favs XDD.
I started out Ashita no Joe btw, old school boxing show with an impressive MC. He reminds me alot of Wenli for some reason, you should definitely check it out bro.
