Now I understand why they make Hinako a dancer. For Siva of course!
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

Maybe someone who's played the game can answer this.

Why do Hibiki and many others seem to view Yamato as such a villian? I mean, his core ideal - that the competent should rule - is something pretty much everyone agrees with, if not in words at least in practice (You don't see many people arguing for doctors and engineers should be chosen democratically). (I'm also assuming that his willingness to sacrifice *many* people is basically pragmatic, if somewhat cruel)

I haven't played the game, but anime-Yamato doesn't seem to view these actions as sacrifices but rather collateral damage. A sacrifice is giving up something you value, whether it be your possessions, your life, or the lives of others (if you value human life.) In Yamato's worldview, the competent (read: exceptional and gifted) will dominate and the weak either keep up or perish. As he said, he never once considered this a burden. This is neither the system we have now, nor the system that people pretty much agree with.

Humans do not cull the weak. Our major advances in technology have made it easier for the weakest among us to survive and multiply. One does not need to be especially talented to live a long and full life; one does not need to exhibit any particular talent to be success. Talent, it needs to be understood, is not skill in this context. A competent doctor is not a talented doctor. Yamato's view point is that the truly exceptional people should create the world to their own standards (with himself being the most exceptional person of all) with no regard as to how this new world condemns those not born with talent to live as trash.

And that's kind of a problem for most people--because even the gifted and talented amongst us who would benefit greatly from a system like that know and care for plenty of people who would suffer in such a system.

Well, according to the game, Yamato's meritocracy is that the strong(competent, useful) will LEAD the weak, not dominate.

It's not the matter of who is strong and who is weak,or who is talented and who is talentless,as long as you have proven that you are capable in something, you will get the position you deserve, so everyone will have to work hard if they want to move up in life. That's what Yamato's meritocracy is.

I mean, leaving Alcor aside, all the septentions powers and "abilities" seem very similar to those of the Angels in Evangelion---
Don't forget Yamato is similar to Gendou in quite many ways -- they both want to shape the future after the Angels/Septenrions according to his will and for the achievement of the objective no sacrifice is deemed too much. And neither cares even much of those who work with or under him. And of course both also knew quite a lot of the Angels/Septenrions long before other humans did.

Oh well, the talk with Alcor at the beginning was quite interesting. Not enough to make up for the lack of interaction with him for the past few episodes though.

I wonder if Nitta will die or not, she didn't die in my play through but things can always change.

Yamato did explain, by saying "Human hands shall recreate the myth"...

Yeah but those who never played the game or have no knowledge about that myth won't have any idea what he is talking about.

and yamato said afterward "Kama, the demon of charm who disturbs your meditation. Awaken the anger blablabla!" or something...

it's true that the anime only shows it briefly, still they explain although it's a little bit...

It seems that everything is coming to the same end. I liked the way the episode set the pace, this time we did not run that past episodes, everything has to be explained and dialogues happened naturally. Only the battle against the 5th which was well ... fast. It reminded me a bit Evangelion actually Yamato's ideals are similar to the Gendou, and that any layman can understand. I would like to see a little about the past of the characters, Yamato would a good flashacks.

As for the talk of the choices, I forced through, and despite Hibiki want to protect everyone, how he would survive until the end without the help of JP's? The methods of the Yamato can be hard but are still the best.

My guess is that the next deity/demon that is necessary to beat the next Septarion needs a human sacrifice and not every person fits the bill. I would say this is another objective for the body check besides finding the right people to summon Siva and Khama in this episode.

I won't mind if Nitta dies, since she's the definition of useless and all she does is whining how she wants to go home to her mother.
On the other hand, Hibiki's boyfriend best friend - the one with weak demons - has the same level of uselesness, so why didn't they choose him?
Anyway... okay episode.
Sakurai's character having an existential crisis. I see the NGE references. Hibiki is pretty annoying with his humanistic bullshit. Yamato is not very likeable either, but still, I'm leaning more towards his side.
I knew there was going to be a fanservice moment when Hibiki had jumped into that lift.

If Nitta is the definition of useless, what is Taichi?? Besides, she last whine about going home to her mother back in the first 2 episodes. Are you not watching the episodes between that and this episode when Nitta got used to fighting, even taking Hibiki's place when he disappeared to rush to the front line in the Osaka battle??

So what 's happened with coffee and bromance?! I can't help but recall the scene between Haruto and L-elf over at Valvrave. LOL. Both dark-hair protagonists got into a humorous conversation with two sliver-hair bad-asses using coffee and its bitterness as metaphor, then both protagonists were dismissed as naive by silver-hair dudes :))

Did they hire the same writing staff for both shows? XD

The episode itself is nice with all the revelations that have been mentioned before. Still, it's quite interesting to see the reactions from all the casts, which are actually nothing much outside the two camps: Yamato, and Hibiki's ideals.

Regardless of the in-between, when they confront Polaris, they can choose to follow Yamato, Hibiki, or maybe take over Polaris. All options lead to the new world being created.

You mean Daichi, right? I've mentioned him; didn't remember his name (looked it up now though) but from the description, I thought it was pretty obvious; and wondered why they didn't suggest killing him instead?
She might have not mentioned her mother in this episode, she said she wanted to go home though.
Yeah, I remember some scenes when she was trying to fight, I'd say. She looked utterly conflicted and exhausted afterwards, don't think you can call this 'used to fighting'.
Maybe I was exaggerating when I said that she does nothing besides whining, but even the two question marks won't convince me that she's not useless.

Actually, Io does a lot more than many other characters in this show. If you recall, her demon is the one that save Hibiki and Dachi collective asses in episode 1 and 2. After that she participates in a series of battle where her demon is the main fire power that keep the group alive.

Io is not useless, she is central to the story and by agreeing to sacrifice herself to defeat the Septentriones, she will have done more than Yamato, Hibiki, or anyone else to save humanity.

I understand that her meek personality gives off the aura of weakness, but it is totally different when you look at the facts. Some people may be annoyed by her crying to much. However, it does not make her useless. Shinji in Evangelion cries even more pathetically, yet no one can say he is useless.

His ideal is correct but wrong at the same time depending on your perspective. According to his ideal, people will work hard and thus get the rewards they deserve. However, it also means that regardless of whether you are good or evil, you can get the rewards as long as you are competent. It also means that people who try their best but are unable to do as well as a person who doesn't will be cast aside from society. It's not wrong, it's just cruel and thus, can be considered evil.

This episode sucked considering how funny the scene between Kama and Shiva was suppose to be. The game had both comedic and tragic elements mixed very well. However, the anime cuts out all the character development and the comedy which would be awesome in action. Also, I don't know why the animators chose Bai-hu and Feng Hua as Hibiki's demons. They aren't even remotely strong or unique, you can freaking buy them at the auction. I had a lvl 27 Apis who could one-ht a lvl 56 Bai-hu. If they wanted him to be the chosen one, they should give him a Deity, Kishin or Omega. Gosh, Yamato got Baal which is badass and crazily strong. How's Hibiki suppose to measure up to that with just Avatar and Avian-class demons?

Alcor and Airi were well-done but the Yamato of the anime feels weak to me. Him with his gruff attitude is annoying because the in-game Yamato had this bad-ass confident smirk that dared you to go against him that guaranteed a painful result for you if you try. I 100% prefer that Yamato over the anime-Yamato.

Also, do you have a grudge against Io? Her parents are dead for god's sake, layoff her a little. She might not die depending on whether Hibiki acts like a nice guy or a jackass.

No OP, but a very interesting talk at the start there. Alcor is interesting and can be pretty funny, be it unintentionally.

This attack was repelled relatively easy this time around, but there were a lot of civilian casualties.

So next up is Io's sacrifice; the one we've been hearing about last episode. I'm sure they'll find an alternative.

Lol, Kama was only summoned so Shiva would get pissed at him and fire his spear? And the dude was brought out with a teenage girl only flashing her belly button, haha, the lolicon.

And Yamato dropped the bomb to the remaining, relevant summoners. Seems like Hibiki will inevitably clash with him with the way the story is headed.

I'm guessing Io's sacrifice has something to do with the giant rock thing last episode?

Wow, they're rushing hard; opting to cut out the OP and ED.

I've been honestly quite bored with the past episodes. DS started off good, then suddenly it just became cliche, but now it's back!! Well, in my opinion, that is.

When that talk with Alcor started, I just can't immediately stop laughing. Then there was that Alcor/Hibiki moment which made me internally scream, and then the part where Daichi and Nitta entered.... the float part.... Alcor is certainly such an interesting character.

The fight was fast, but I honestly think it was better than the last ones? I mean, I've really been quite "meh" about the hey-im-raising-my-phone thing. It's fun to see whats-her-name-again dance and Airi showing her belly button was just funny.

(( And tbh I don't know whatever myth was that until I saw the posts here.... but okay honestly, what was that myth about- ))

The moment Yamato trapped Hibiki in the wall, I immediately sensed some fanservice. BUT WHEN YAMATO SAID SOMETHING ABOUT SUBMISSION AND THAT PART WHERE HE LEANED IN I JUST CANTTTTTTTTTTTTTT-

And I don't really care more or less about Nitta. I don't think she's useless or anything, but well, what happens happen. I am still disappointed about Keita and the rest... will they get revived ;w;

And that one one hell of a dinner.

From the 9 I gave this when it started, to the 7 for the past episodes, I'm going to change it back to 8. Depending on the final episodes, I might give back the 9 or even make it 10 ~

In the game the title refers to everybody splitting up because of their ideals on how to proceed with what little time they have left. I'm still hopeful that something similar happens like Hibiki decides to take Io and Daichi with him because all JPs have done is treat them like crap.

Informative episode!!!

We learn slightly more about Alcor and his existesne along with JP's plan led by Yamato. I see that he is thinking in an odd way but somehow makes sense in an ideal way. Hibiki realises that such a thing may be too rigid and vows to stop him if he goes in the wrong path. I have to say that everyone is pretty tensed up but its not surprising as the day is coming closer. Alcor made me laugh in this episode as he was being very friendly with Yamato and that coffee and floating scene was pretty comical. Nitta is told by Makoto that she will die and be used as a sacrifice for the upcoming mission. I kind of saw that the Alioth may have that characteristic as the size really does pose a serious problem if it just fell like that and I guess Nagoya has been completely destroyed. Everyone is also told about the plan and the secret by Yamato and they will individually think hard about their decision.

Looking forward to the next episode!!

One more point in voting because the battle made by Hinako and Airi was not bad, especially for the performance of Hinako! XD Half-naked as if it is going to fight the enemy! XD Funny also the speeches of Alcor made with the protagonists. We are almost at the end, Nitta has to die, if true, would be quite a coup!

Maybe it just didn't appear in the route that I took in the game, but I enjoyed Alcor's more frequent appearance in the anime, and his personality too.
i definitely think the Airi-Hinako scene had way more impact in the game compared to the anime though. With DS's story dependent on your choices, it seems hard to incorporate and choose the best route choice for the anime, and the people who have played the game may dislike it because of this. I think overall, it's ok, but I don't think the pacing is right and I wish some of the scenes went into more detail. 13 episodes just isn't enough I guess.

This episode was so rushed. Septentrion 5 deserved at least 2 episodes to explain everything and do all the battles involved. Not to mention they never once mentioned the fact that Alioth deploys toxins as one of his main attacks and they had to create a device to neutralize it.

I feel like they wasted way too much time on day one and it's showing by rushing the remaining days, not to mention the mass killing spree and lack of character development in the previous episodes.
