fascinating episode!
Really good for the last batch of fanservice and hint of something blossom or awaking inside Ledo! *the way he look at Amy's dance and his common sense*
Just a great ep! Seem like next ep will be a bit action!
<< Lovely~!

That smile~

Another good episode! I guess the next episode has action scenes on it.
Can't wait for it!~

I think it's beautiful how we're seeing slowly seeing Red smile more and more... if I recall correctly, the first time was last episode when he was on Amy's glider and I think we got a smile or two this time around. What a cutie <3 He's opening up and that "wall" he spoke of between himself and other Gargantians is getting thinner the more time he spends with them and getting to know each other.

I have a feeling that the greenish glowing squid is just something Red mistook for a Hideauze like the octopus at the festival. If it actually was the enemy Chamber would have calculated a 100% probability instead of 99.7%. I'm sure by the end of the series we'll get an explanation of the relationship between the squids and the Hideauze but I really hope the story doesn't go Urobutcher style before that happens ╯.╰

More comical fish out of water scenes, some good fan-service and finally, maybe, possibly, some action...
....next episode....
Still visually very well done, lots of detail and colors etc, just wondering where this show is going =D

Where it's going? I'm thinking it's just showing us what it's like for a soldier who has known nothing but a cold life of war reacts to integrating into what we call 'normal society.'

F*ck yeah, finally. I bet at the end, Ledo will not want to return to Space because of her.
For now Im enjoying this slice of life moments and getting ready for the alien invasion at the end. Im sure there will be one, Urobutcher wrote the end.period.

Really nice animation. Getting Jyu-oh-sei anime vibes.

If that is true then the route must be something like Ledo dying and Amy giving birth to his baby XP

I'm not a big fan of fanservice in any anime but I can usually tolerate it. However this episode had just an unsightly amount of fanservice. This anime doesn't need it to begin with so that just made it worse.

I spotted this too, seems far too coincidental to me. It seems the plot may progress a little next episode as-well.

The dance scenes, especially the solo dance were done extremely well I thought, although the lack of buttcrack was disheartening. Maybe the action fanatics will quieten down a bit when the story starts to progress next episode, but you should all know by now this is primarily a SoL.

What the hell happened to this show.

For the first few episodes, it looked liked it had promise. A warrior in a high tech galactic war for humanity's survival crashes on a low tech earth. How will he survive? How will the low tech people on earth react to his super tech? Will he get back to space? How will he interact with people who have such a huge technology difference? His stand off with the fleet and fights with the pirates only fed in to this epic feel that he would make waves and go on lots of adventures. Instead we got a bland daily life drama where absolutely nothing happens.

Instead of fighting aliens/pirates/whatever, our main character goes fishing or sits around doing nothing the entire episode.

I was about ready to drop this daily life crap when the end of this episode finally showed that there MIGHT be hope in the future of SOMETHING happening beyond him fishing and flirting with scantily clad young girls. With this show though, i would not be surprised if the creature he thought was humanity's enemy actually turned out to be just some sea creature in the ultimate troll move.

I've been hoping for this outcome from the start though. It isn't a huge reach that if he crash landed on earth, the enemy did too (or there could be some other reasoning of course). This would also be a good way for the show to have some form of plot beyond just him slaughtering tons of pirates who can't effectively fight back.

Well at least something of significance is going to happen next episode, shame it took half the show to get back to the initial premise but oh well.

On a side note, I realised during the belly dance scene (yeah it's not really belly dancing but oh well) that I'm literally watching this show just for the soundtrack. Those pan flutes are just so yummy.

I think next episode might be the "dark" turning point in this series... Now that he knows that the hideouze are on the planet, I can see him just abandoning the ship and going off in the sea murdering those poor defenseless (well probably not) squids. Is anyone else really conflicted about the direction they want this anime to take though? I like dark twists and drama as much as the next guy, but really the way it's been going so far is not bad. This whole dealing with PTSD and re-integrating into society theme, reminds me quite a bit of Area 88 one of my favorite OVA.s Also I can't be the only one that is (quite reasonably) shipping LedoxAmy.

Aww you dick, I didn't take that into consideration and now that I think about it, considering that they mention bigger squids when they eat the octopus, and considering again that Chamber only say's that it shares similar "characteristics", what you propose might be right on the mark. Now I don't know what will happen ._.

You may be a little disappointed then. I don't think that was a hideauze, it didn't look like the ones in the first episode at all. I think it's going to end up being that octa-whale thiing they mentioned during the dance scene.

My guess would be that the hideauze came from earth, or something close to that anyway.

Nothing, apparently you were not informed enough to know this was pitched as a lighthearted anime, that is meant to encourage teenagers who are just about to enter society by showing them it's not that scary.

I liked all this talk about no killing thing and i hoped the story would develop this topic little bit more. But very next episode they forgot about it and started killing pirates, then they just started fishing, barbecuing and running away from trannies.

I'm pretty sure it is a sea creature. In fact, I remember Bellows saying something about a giant squid. I don't think it is a 'troll' move through.

I understand complaints about the show not having as much action as some people expected, but frankly I don't mind the lack of action. If you read some of what director Kazuya Murata has said about the show, it becomes evident that Gargantia isn't really an action show. Here is a little insert from a interview he did for ANN:

"Mr. Hirasawa, the producer at Production I.G gave me a call and briefed me about the project concept. The theme is based around the idea of "work" or "working people". It's a robot anime, which will cheer up young people who will enter and have entered society. I liked it. Moreover, hearing that the setting is a planet covered by water, I felt that it could be a chance to use one of my long-gestating ideas. Then, I got on board."

It's clear that the story is actually about Ledo learning about entering society and the value of work and having human connection, not a high action adventure. And I think the show is doing a stellar job. Plus, I like the fact that the show uses a character like Ledo to express its themes, rather than using an anti-social loser as most anime about entering society and learning to value work and personal connection usually do.
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone.

My best guess is we find out how the earth got fucked over or at least we get a decent amount of exposition about pre-spaaace Galactic Alliance humanity. What that will entail I have no idea but I'm calling dib's on finding the remnants of nuclear power.

Much better than the last episode (and the poll reflect this as well). Yes, there was a lot of fanservice in there also - the slutty appearance of Amy and co makes that obvious... BUT while (objectively) more outspoken in appearance, I have less qualms about it, because it wasn't as much senseless fanservice (aka, merely to cater to the fans) like in last episode, but a deliberate way of introducing feelings of...well, let's say romance ;-) to/with Ledo.

The fanservice actually had purpose and a context that went beyond mere fanservice, thus. And as said, as long as it makes sense and has a goal in-story, I don't mind some skin/boobs/implied eroticism. I think it was clear in this episode, they were exploring some other theme than just 'want to be useful/work' , but rather wanted to show Ledo's first experience with attraction towards the other sex/gender. For a moment I thought they were going to show (well, imply) that he got a boner and asking Chamber what was wrong with his body ;-p but that would be a bit too outspoken, I guess. Point being, in his culture he never actually had any sex or romance, so the feelings are new to him, and that's what they wanted to (also) show and explore a bit in this episode. And they did it pretty subtle (I mean the showing/discovering of his feelings *of that kind*).

So in short: more skin, but less nonsensical/irrelevant in a 'breaking-the-fourth-wall' sense, me thinks.

And that last minute was pretty darn good in creating suspense, though we all know he's going into overdrive/overkill, because it's just a squid. ;-)

HOWEVER, it does feel strange.. 99,7% alike? Why would squids on earth be SO much alike with the hideauze? I think there is some connection implied here. I'm wondering if they'll explore this more. Could it be...the hideauze IS originally/actually an earthly squid-form, genetically manipulated or something? an evolved form inhabiting space? Is there going to be a 'frankenstein'-theme, where Ledo's culture actually created something that is now a threat and they want to destroy?

Or is it just plain coincidence and a way to just bring some suspense in it? Yet...the 'lightning' bursts of the Milky Way of marine electricity-bugs and those we see of the hideauze, the squids alikeness... is there really no connection there? We'll see in future episodes I guess, but as of yet, it's food for thought.

I'm actually looking forward to see the next episode again, now. :-)
This episode made lot's more sense and had good pacing, as well for his 'searching work' thing , as for the fanservice - and luckily, they didn't make an attempt at slapstick, cut back on the shoujo-esque slice-of-life, but went for a bit of suspense in the end. Much improved in regard to the former episode.

I honestly don't see why so many people are complaining about the fanservice. I don't like it either but there is not enough of it to just drop the anime.

I can understand why people are disappointed about the slice-of-life though. I am slightly disappointed also but I things are not going to continue like that.

Plus, I think the action/suspense is going to start next episode.

I'm all for Urobuchi doing something different and more light hearted than his usual fare....but this show feels oddly generic because of it. Last 2 episodes I've honestly wondered if I was rewatching Infinite Stratos or something of that ilk. There's the distinct smell of harem, with beach and festival episodes and I don't care about any of the characters (except Chamber, who has the most personality despite being a mecha...)

If anyone else was writing I would have dropped this by now, but I have faith he can do something more interesting with the second half of the story
