I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't want to be a part of something so revolutionary. When have any of us been given the opportunity to not just pay into the consumption of an anime, but into its creation?

60USD is more or less what the bluray will cost anyway, so I think this may be a good idea. Besides Yuasa-san is a great director!

And even if I'm not a fan of wrestrling, I have to agree with them that these kind of original anime is what we really need, I feel we're winning in quantity but losing in quality recently...

150k for a 10 minute short? yeah, no. Thats asking far too much... You can't be greedy and want to do a high budget short here for a kickstarter. Your average 24 minute episode is about 150k... this is asking for close to KyoAni budget.

Did you read the kickstarter page? This is from the page

" Our goal is raise a minimum of $150,000 for this project. After the film is completed, we plan on submitting it to film festivals around the world.

Here is how we intend to use the funds:

Increase the quality of animation
Increase the overall duration of the animation
Help offset the current production costs
Manufacturing costs for backers rewards (Blu-ray,Print materials etc)
Digital distribution costs for backers downloading the film
Festival Submission Fees "

I think all this makes up for the fact of all the money they need and plus they have to give out all those kickstarters rewards for donating which is btw a pretty good deal AND they have Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) as the project consultant and by Production I.G......yeah its worth it

like i said on another related forum this is a great start for Crowd-Funding anime, this will ensure a Break-Even profit (no gain, no loss) for an anime that does not sell well and if the anime failed to be Crowd-Funded that means its not worth making that specific anime project at all, so Crowd-Funding is a good safety net (or profit safety measure) for anime studios

That's one weird ass story.

I have an open mind about most things...but turning a Shakespearean classic into Lucha Libre? What.

Go on the kickstarter page and watch a clip of it with an interview with Masaaki Yuasa, the concept is actually pretty interesting, the animation isn't dull either http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/production-ig/masaaki-yuasas-kick-heart

I guess it's good that japanese animators search money for non conventional anime in the west, at least we're can help to save a little bit more artistry.

I like how the people who complain the most are the ones who watched over hundred days of anime for free. They should show some gratitude for once and contribute to this interesting experiment.

Anyway, backed. It'll be interesting so how everything plays out.

I have no interest in contributing to some wrestling anime when I wouldn't even watch it.

I've heard the name, but never seen any of his stuff. That arthouse kinda anime doesn't interest me.

There was another project by Studio 4C, but given the fact that nobody knows about it I would say it wasn't very successful. Bad communication on their part.

If they're going for an original concept, naming the two main characters as Romeo and Juliet is a bad start.

What I got out of this was "The typical anime investors didn't think this was a good idea to invest in, but you totally should".

The art style doesn't appeal to me much, but it's the synopsis that is the real problem for me, I mean, Romeo and Juliet, really? The names alone show the complete lack of creativity on the script, it's not like there aren't hundreds of anime out there with the sado/maso dynamic either.

The concept in which they are named Romeo and Juliet is part of the originality, they are just giving them random names because that's not really the important part of it. I think both the script and the artstyle are original, fun and fresh. Since it's an indie project funded by fans they have much more freedom to do crazy stuff (and, really, this kind of projects usually deliver it)

I love indie and I'm glad to fund it.

Agreed the synopsis seems completely retarded but after visiting the Kick Heart and looking at all the drawings, well I'm in. I think it's a great idea to help get works like these created. Minimum is one dollar. I'm thinking most people have at least a dollar to help Yuasa create another great anime and prove the concept that people will pay for great art and animation.

People should really at least see Kemonozume before they decide anything about this one. Kemonozume had an generic/cheesy synopsis, the art style looked like trash if you saw it in snippets, etc. And yet it's one of the best anime series out there IMO.

Btw, it's only been two days (from one month) but it's 1/3 way already. Going smooth, eh?

But actually, how much does 150000$ counts? Shouldn't kickstarter will also costs plenty of money (revenue share, merchandise and delivery costs) and anime production is especially costly?

They aren't the same thing and in the case of a Romeo and Juliet themed wrestling short I'd see it's neither.

Looking for free money for crappy ideas isn't a new business model. It's the same idea of borrowing money from a bank/investors except with no requirement to pay any of it back. It's acceptable to small indie groups that can't get backing, not because their idea sucks but because they are too small to risk investing in.
