What did you expect?

Seriously. You can't fault a god damn fighting movie for not being a high class show.
It's called street fighter.
It delivered on that name.

The video game characters were represented very very faithfully. The plot was simple and gave reason for the kickass fighting scenes.
And the animation was very very smooth and pleasant to watch.

Easily a 7.

Wait what? That's the best video game-to-anime movie I have watched. And I'm not even a Street Fighter fan. It gets a 7/10 from me which is very high considering I use the entire scoring system.

I have to agree with you. This movie is the best game adaptation of all times.

For me this film was amazing and I gave the maximum score for him. 10/10.

If you're going to watch a film called "Street Fighter II: The Movie" based on a fighting game, I don't see how you can expect anything better than this.

It's hardly a great film. But that's only because its basic premise could never produce a great film. I really don't see much they could have done much better, without changing the concept totally.

If it were to be a new brand without any background, I would call it bad. But since it's based on a fighting game, it could be much worse. I give it a 7 - the animation is not bad and the fights are between the popular fighters from the game. So... the grade is ultimate for me, I think.

This movie should make every Beat'em up-Fan jizz in their pants.
Great early 90-adaptation that's only beaten by the Victory-Series that followed the next year.

@messedup - Is there a better anime using the SF franchise? I've only watched this one so far and I'd like to know that ;)

This is probably my favorite SF movie ever. The english dub was solid, and the english version of the soundtrack was absolutely brilliant!

9/10 - No doubt.

The designs sucked (badly proportioned and drawn even for its age) but the fight scenes were surprisingly really good. Hats off to the choreographer.

The plot's not dissimilar to something like Enter the Dragon but maybe more complex (well, there are more characters). If you're watching a martial arts film (video game adaptation!) you shouldn't really be expecting too much. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would anyway.

Also, Chun Li's breasts.

Also, Alice in fucken Chains m/

(Ah, different soundtrack with the dub. Thought the US dub was actually decent and the music was great).

I loved this movie when I first bought it and watched it over 20 years ago( i was 6 at the time). This and Macross were what got me into anime to begin with.

Yeah, for what it was this was actually pretty entertaining. Highlights been Chun-Li's fight and Ryu/Ken vs. Bison/Vega.

I'm so glad I watched this kickass anime movie over the cheesy dull mortal kombat cartoon one. Best choice in grade school.

This was pretty good for an animated adaptation of a video game, and a fighting one to boot. Way better than the garbage that was the Super Street Fighter IV OVA.

The characters were portrayed faithfully. Also, a shout out to the Zangief and Blanka fight. Not that it was very good, but I like how they put them in the movie. T. Hawk and Dee Jay didn't really add anything to the plot either, but they had to have every Street Fighter 2 character in it. The only one that lacked was Akuma, but I guess this was before Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Not to mention that if Akuma was in it, it'd have been quite different.

Chun-Li vs. Balrog/Vega was a pretty intense fight. It also had some nice fanservice. Ryu and Ken vs. M. Bison/Vega at the end was nice, too. M. Bison/Vega was really portrayed as a ruthless badass and rightfully so, considering he's the final boss and the main villain of the series.

The other fights were alright too, but they were mostly appetizers. This movie did a good job showing each character's signature moves, I'd say.

I like how, at the end, Chun-Li pretended to be dead hiding under the hospital bed sheets. I also liked the facial expressions they gave her in her meeting with Guile. The movie really captured well her competitive yet joyous and playful nature.

I believe this is generally considered to be the best animated adaptation of Street Fighter. I guess that's expected when it comes to video game adaptations. Lucky us that Street Fighter got a good movie out of it, at least. The live action one was pretty bad.

I'm giving this an 8/10 rating. Seems fair.

The story was alright pretty much what I was expecting from a film adapting Street fighter 2, but true value of this film comes from the awesome art and battle chorography. All the characters looked badass M.bison especially looked really menacing like a brick house with a cape. I cant gush enough over how epic the fights where even the quick ones like Dhalsim vs. Honda was simply fantastic. Also Chun-li in the shower one of if not the most famous thing about this movie.

The art was good (though not when it comes to actual fighting scenes expect the Balrog VS Chun) but there was way too much padding in the film. There's a lot of slow scenes that serve really no purpose and make the movie dull to watch. Also it's always a bad idea to try to cram every character to a movie. It's better to just focus on a few instead of doing none justice.

The American OST was great though and at least Bison was done right (though this does come from someone who doesn't care abotu Street Fighter)

I think it was sleepy and boring for me, I fell asleep while watching this but I rewatched it and it wasn't that good. If maybe I was younger I would've felt in love with it because of the action, but now I don't get easily charmed by that shit and so it didn't deliver in terms plot.

Ryu and Ken lacked character, especially Ryu who was so boring that I was yawning all over the place. What's up calling M. Bison lord Vega and Vega Balrog, then who was Balrog??? I thought it was my subs, but they definitely called them that way which was messed up for me.

The subs were either using the real names and you were used to the american ones, or they were using the american ones while you were hearing the real ones in japanese, that's the reason for the discrepancy.

As fr the plot? Well, it's only an excuse to serve us a kung-fu/martial arts movie (and featuring most characters). Just like a Jac kie Chan movie (at the beginnings) was an excuse to show off his abilities and make you laugh.

@Dawudboxer Do you mean the electro music tracks from the US dub?

Until now I did only see the version of my country with the OST changed (in a bar, how many memories xD), and I liked, but yesterday did see the japanese version and is amazing too! Specially the final battle with Itoshi Setsunasato.

Watched the original Japanese version on the Discotek blu-ray. I knew about the name swaps but only have experience with the American games, so it was weird hearing them called out.

This is fanservice done right! Story was lackluster and downright boring at times but seeing the characters "come to life" is what anybody should want and they brought it for the most part. Too bad several of them were left hanging dry or with paltry fight scenes (like Dhalsim not doing his signature stretching, or the end with Guile and Balrog/Bison barely doing anything). But the major fights were all good and worth it, especially Fei Long vs. Ryu and Chun-Li vs. Vega/Balrog. Though I wish the music was more rocking like the western versions.

Amazing movie. The art and animation were superb, the story was serviceable and the fan service was on point (I like how they showed all the characters, including the little Akuma cameo, lol). There is nothing more you could expect from a Street Fighter II adaptation.

And thanks for the Chun-Li bath and underwear fight scenes, they were highly appreciated.
