RedStarLight said: 1.)Isn't Konan(paper) like Suigetsu(water) in being resistant to physical damage due to being made of *insert element already mentioned*? Shouldn't stabbing her, like Madara did, not work? Or at the very least, shouldn't she have been able to turn to paper to escape?
2.)Why didn't Madara at least try to use his Susano's?
3.)Madara took Nagato.. Were Tendo Pein's eyes not good enough? I suppose it's a bit redundant since you've already gotten a number of responses, but even so, I think I can add some details.
1) Konan's Shikigami no Mai wore off — the subs were odd for this episode (at least on Hulu and presumably also Crunchyroll), and they named the wrong jutsu. She overexerted herself and so she had solidified involuntarily, leaving her vulnerable.
2) Whether or not he even can use Susano'o has not been confirmed, but it likely wouldn't have helped either way — Susano'o has a serious weakness, in that it provides no protection from below, and since Madara was in midair, this opening could have been easily exploited. Additionally, Susano'o does not solve the "falling from a height that would bring certain death" problem, as even if Susano'o kept him from splattering against the bottom, the instant deceleration out of terminal velocity would kill him on its own.
3) Given that the Rinnegan requires both the Sharigan and Senju powers to awaken, and neither Yahiko nor any of the other bodies (nor the summoned animals, for that matter) possessed either of these things, it is safe to presume that his was an "extension" of Nagato's, somehow.
Now then, my thoughts on the episode:
• Amusingly, this is the third time Madara has lost an arm. However, this is the first time he's suffered any lasting consequences from a fight, losing a Sharingan for the cost of Izanagi — which also makes Konan the only person to actually damage him in any way.
• Madara quite clearly used Izanagi near the beginning of Konan's bombastic onslaught. We'll let slide the fact that she presumably should have noticed him cease to exist, and chalk that up to her technique making it so she couldn't see nor sense him, but there's still a problem: Konan kept the jutsu going for the full ten minutes… so Madara used Izanagi, and then didn't reappear until ten minutes later?
• Interestingly, almost no one in the Naruto series would have been able to survive Konan's technique. Only a handful of people would be able to survive the fall or otherwise compensate for it, but few if any could respond to the 600,000,000,000 explosions that followed. Aside from Madara, the only person I can think of is the Third Tsuchikage, with a "possibly" for Minato — the Tsuchikage can fly unaided, and so could escape rather easily, and depending on the distance to the nearest tag (we do know that the his technique does have a limited range — this was why he couldn't just warp immediately back to Kushina after Madara abducted her, though he did catch up rather quickly), Minato may be able to warp away. So, at least as far as I could figure, there's all of three characters who would be able to survive Konan's technique if unprepared.
• The animation had some very noticeably poor moments. Yay for QUALITY.
• Well, we have another example of "how not to use flashbacks" to learn from. Today's lesson is "Maintaining mood consistency in music". A flashback that could work well where it is placed can still be a jarring and unwelcome intrusion if the creators do not mind the music, and therefore create a clashing tone — like jumping immediately from a quiet, somber moment to a cheerful "happy memories" bit. For example, the frog-suits scene. Without the lighthearted music playing in the background, this shift would not have been nearly as disruptive as it was. |
