It seems that Section 2 has more cyborgs than just the ones shown in the OP. From the look of things though, Elsa is probably...

After all, her role was replaced by Jose during the mission. That must have done massive damage to her pride.

This anime show isn't categorized under action.
It's a drama, adventure, sci-fi(ish).

I feel bad for Elsa, her supervisor or whatever should just be
nicer to her. She looks so sad :(

Another powerful episode (poor Elsa, not being able to connect with anyone and not letting anyone get next to her...).

You know Elsa looks like she is probably going to break down in the future with all that neglect emotional abuse and you can help but feel bad with her antisocial attitude :(

This was actually a pretty good episode, I liked it =D. I expected action from the title, but I guess this is good as well.

yeaaa going by this episode I can see one of the girls snapping and going on a killing spree. If your going to make a tool get rid of all emotions. Since emotions make you do things you wouldint do otherwise. Also we got our second douch bag handler. Guess not all of them could be nice.

Lauro is scum. There's a reason why they're called Handlers and not just chaperones.

Regardless of whether the handlers are nice or cold toward their cyborgs, they are all a bunch of heartless bastards. The use brainwashed children to assassinate people and they get paid for it. No matter how many teddy bears they buy the girls and no matter how many times they show them the stars at night with a telescope, they are still scum.

Hmmm, I never thought about it, the consequences of Elsa's rampage. What if her actions cause the social welfare agency to make the conditioning level mandatory to a point where they become emotionless dolls...

Have you watched the anime series "Now and Then, Here and There"? The mixed emotions I feel about this show and your comment is perfectly encapsulated in that show. Remember, Claes's first handler, Ravalo, the older chap who was Jean's mentor? He tried to leak this to the media and got assassinated by Jean.

They are scum,...

but the anime refuses to leave it at just that and let the viewer unabashedly loathe the handlers. They show the viewer the kinder humane sides which struggle against the system, their doubts and insecurities; and the complicated webs binding their actions. In the first episode, the agency was originally set up to use trained adults as assassins and Giuse was very much against it when the news broke out that it was changed to children. Nothing that any of the employees said would've changed the decision, especially if it was going to put a target on their back.

The anime is very much a faithful take on how the world really works, with war the demonised sides always has their own tale to show. The terrifying thing is how easy it can be for the viewer to visualise being in their shoes, given a scenario where you are between a rock and a hard place. At work, you often find yourself disagreeing with the company policies on an ethical basis or your boss doing something not acceptable by the books. E.g. Apple factories in China. Can you be the one to stick your neck out and make a stand? Or will it end up like Jean who had to work his way into building an elaborate labyrinth of logical justications to rationalise their work.

Guys, guys even though I feel sad for Elsa too, she screwed up because of jelousy. Lauro isn't abusive bastard like Jean, he is just being proffesional. Etiquette about using girls as cybernetic military tools aside, they are assasinations tools and as such they have much bigger potential to die (in action or because their implantants and conditioning greatly shorten their lifespam). Lauro is trying to keep distance (in some scenes it really looked to me he want to be nicer but keep his distance) to not be emotionaly attached and potentionaly burn out/get depressed if something is going to happen to his girl. Like military and police dogs. For me, dog is family, but in police and especially military dogs are members in service who might die if duty calls for that. Especially in extensive cases like in war soviets trained dogs to bring bombs under enemy tanks and blown themselves. Japanese used people for that. If you get attached you won't be able to do and keep your job in long-term. Maybe Lauro have family he needs to feed.

Elsa... So sad.

I think, as several others in this thread, that Lauro is not a "bad" person. He just is approaching his job from a different angle. I don't agree with his approach, but I would never describe him as abusive or "scum."

Some very interesting messages down here. Meanwhile, in the previous thread, no one wanted to analyze the Tale of the Prince of Pasta Kingdom. I'm only half kidding.

I can't defend the project, or excuse the handlers of their crimes, but, in the case of Giuse for example, maybe it's in Henrietta's best interest that he doesn't leak the operation and instead stays her handler, making her life a little less awful to the best of his abilities, even if his methods cross over to enabling territory. After all, if he tries to leak and gets silenced, who's to say Henrietta's next handler won't be much worse?

While I understand Lauro's reasons, it's clear that his methods also fail, at least in-universe. Elsa ends up copying his behavior, obsesses over him his approval to a fault all the same. It's actually quite eerie how much the cyborgs end up being reflections of their handlers.

"I polish his rifle while I think about him" that was funnier than it shouldve been for me.
Also did Lauro up the music so she couldnt talk to him ... lmao

Seems all Elsa wants is the recognition and love that Henrietta gets and not just be considered a tool.

Poor Elsa, seeing Henrietta and Giuse's relationship made her taken a back since Lauro is really cold to her :/ I feel bad to her but she's also not interested in other people aside from her handler

Elsa is too harsh on Henrietta, I mean I guess her words are true.. though not truly

That two sniper shots are beautiful, I want to hear the sound though.. not the music :(

Well it's easier to lose everything when you only have one thing to lose
Just look at Claes, well she got books and good memories I guess unlike Elsa

Elsa is just a tsundere flavored jelly roll. All hot and bothered because her connection with her own handler is so much more feebler than everyone else. She's probably my least favorite girl of the bunch.

I'm surprised it isn't a prerequisite for a handler to treat their "cyborg" as if they were a normal girl, given that there's still a whole package of emotions, ready to unravel at any moment, when it comes to these girls. Just a little more nuance in their actions and words.
