The woman youkai taking care of Kubinashi is lol~
lol~ Aotabou was there with the human friends for reason!! Aotabou is a youkai to protect kids?? Or rather, a father who became youkai.
So, Kubinashi had long hair before.
Bunches of past revealing...
Wow, they are strong.
Thinking that it's back to Rikuo at the end, but with that cliffhanger!! Hopes that he's ok.
After the ending, Kubinashi's past with neck and meeting mini-woman youkai.
I ♥Two Syaorans from Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE and TRC!!!
Also, as I feared, they did NOT explain the stuff behind Yosuzume and the Maou's Hammer...
*sigh* They are really are targeting this at people who READ the Shikoku arc rather than at people who only watched season 1 >_<
So, I made a summary of stuff that was cut out from Season 1 so that you don't get confused or misunderstand something (I don't remember the whole season 1 so I will explain everything). I recommend you to read it:
Few centuries ago, the Shikoku Clan was a powerful Youkai Clan, constantly rising in power. One day, their ambitious leader (Tamazuki's father) decided to expand his power by attacking a human fortress (Nurarihyon offered his help but he rejected it fearing that he would get taken over by Nurarihyon's Fear and thus become his underling).
However, the humans somehow got a sword called Maou's Hammer and the Youkai invaders were utterly crushed, the Shikoku clan becoming pathetically weak. The Manga did not explain how they got the sword, but the Japanese mythology does: a youkai called Sanmoto Gorouzaemon, who claimed to hold a title of Maou (Demon King or Devil), took a disguise of Samurai and gave the humans the sword (I don't know why he did it, but knowing that the sword gets stronger the more youkai it hits, the reason seems might be obvious) so they could defeat the Shikoku Clan.
Not long before the present day, Shikoku Clan is still pathetic and only Tamazusa (who calls himself Tamazuki), the most talented of the former leaders children, believes that the Clan could still grow in power. For this, his siblings ridiculed him. Still tough, he never gave up on his dream and built his own Hyakki Yakou. Most prominent members were Yosuzume, a student who transfered to his school and ended up joining his Hyakki Yakou, and Inugami, a Youkai who didn't know of his own nature until Tamazuki made him to on a rampage and kill some of Tamazuki's human friends and who was persuaded than by Tamazuki to join his Hyakki Yakou.
Seeing the potential in this young Youkai leader, a traitorous member of Nura Clan's upper echelons (his identity yet unknown) comes to Shikoku and gives Tamazuki the Maou's Hammer. Tamazuki uses his new power-up to further strengthen his Hyakki Yakou and slaughter his unambitious siblings.
At some point in the story, before or after he got the sword, Tamazuki was already the leader of Shikoku Clan. The traitor from Nura Clan asks Tamazuki to come to the Nura Clan turf, crush the Nura Clan while it is weak and thus start the restoration of the Shikoku Clan. Using his influence as the member of Upper Echelons, the traitor took care that Shikoku Clan enters the Nura Clan territory with minimal trouble. In return, one Tamazuki conquers the Nura Clan, the traitor would get a prestigious position in Tamazuki's clan.
When at final battle Tamazuki got defeated, Yosuzume took Maou's Hammer and left, betraying Tamazuki. She took the sword to the Nura Clan itself and gave it to a member of Nura Clan upper echelons, Mitsume Yazura. She addressed him as Sanmoto Gorouzaemon-sama and he removed a mask (tough it is not shown what is under it).
In summary, this Sanmoto Gorouzaemon, who calls himself Demon King, was pulling teh strings behind the Shikoku Arc. Also, do rewatch very start of Season 2 Episode 1 and look at the sword that loli Kitsune is holding: it is Maou's Hammer...
And now, in this episode you see that Sanmoto Gorouzaemon plays a role in Kyoto arc as well, using Minagoroshi Jizou who manipulated Kyoto Youkai's memories to replace Tengu with himself.

People got disappointed by below average Season 1 so they are not even giving Sennen Makyou a chance.
Looks like s2 picked up what s1 cut off, like animating chapter 1 and now with Minagoroshi's transactions that was suppose to be at the end of s1.
Good job, though it's easy to forget these foreshadowing if you dont pay attention. I know I do when I read this ^^;

Nope, this scene happened at this exact point in the Manga (chapter 101). The end of S1 should have had Yosuzume bringing the sword to Mitsume Yazura at Nura Household.
I finally caught up with this anime. Watched first season and 16 episodes of season 2 in a week! BTW why do we have a ep 17 discussion when 16 just came out?

Because some streaming sites use the different numbering (they count a recap episode as ep13) so some people make mistakes... or they just like pissing other people off, who knows? Will probably be deleted by mods soon tough.

Wait for Season 3, Nurarihyon no Mago: Hyakku Monogatari (not confirmed but I am pretty sure it will called like this if it airs). The guy has quite a story to tell... as well as a badass character design at some point of time.
pieceofshota said: I wonder if that red eyed girl was the same youkai as in season 1 youkai who used blinding ability.
The long haired pretty boy's look just got screwed.
Yep, it is. She is a spy who infiltrated the Shikoku Clan. You see, Season 1 removed everything important for the plot from Shikoku Arc (yeah, makes no sense). Read what I wrote at the start of the tread to see what was removed.

Thanks for the recap. I've read the manga a bit past this, but always good to get a recap now and then.

Actually the staff with the humans and the cursed sword that defeated the yokai where shown in the first season. I don't read the manga and i remember them. It was the same sword that guy that fought Nura had.
One of the best episodes until now. Nice fights and some nice backstory of two important supporting characters.
The twist was the old man scheming something and maybe even fooling Haguromo-Gitsune(maybe she knows and just lets him do whatever he likes because she's useful and then she will kill him). That big guy obviously has some deferent memories. Who is he if his not a Kyoto yokai?

Yeah, it was but since it is directly connected with what was not shown I repeated it... as well as mentioned some additional stuff that was not in Anime nor Manga (but is in Japanese myths).
Great badass action episode. These side characters are surprisingly rich in background and are well flshed out. Execution was great. I'm enjoying more than most shounen.
8/10
Kejourou is so hot when she gets serious! I loved it when she took off part of her kimono. That fight was good and nice teamplay between Youkai & Onmyoji. Finally, the Onmyoji isn't completely useless.
Aotabou's flashback reminded me of Anji's from Rurouni Kenshin.
That post-credits scene was also interesting. I didn't expect Kejourou to be much younger than Kubinashi. I wonder who that courtesan is. Is she the one he loved in the past?
