The final (long) arc finally had the feel of the original series, which to me was one of the best ever.

Cameos galore. What a great prequel, they're so rare. I dont think I spotted a single retcon or contradiction in the story, and it never felt like pandering to the fans. Anyone know if it was adapted directly from the main novels?

Wiki says there's four prequel novels, one of which is titled "Hundred Billion Stars, Hundred Billion Lights."

loved it!
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

I didn't care that much for the first arc, but the last 12 episodes were all pretty excellent. The ending of this series reminded me of something Carl Sagan would say. "There's billions of stars in this very galaxy..." I loved it.

I think this was the best episode. It made up for that boring drug arc.

I dunno why you guys hated the kircheies arc, I found it to be badass. I mean, Kircheies was a complete badass in that arc, and we didnt have to put up with that annoying pretentious brats (j/k). Although everybody else in that arc was acting like an idiot...

Linz sure did a better job singing than Schenkopp ^^

I personally enjoyed the three arcs in the first half, without exception. Sure they did not give off exactly the same feeling the series did (and the second half did) but that's part of why I liked it. It was refreshing and it added new facettes to Reinhard and Kircheis.

God, it felt awesome to see Yang back in the drivers seat these last few episodes. I also thought this arc added a lot to Schenkopp's character, which is something no one else mentioned.

Overall, I enjoyed the entire series. So, I'll agree with Higashi_no_Kaze. Though, the drug arc was the weakest, I didn't think it was bad at all.

This make the LOGH series stronger. It's a shame Wenli's voice actor die early.

Yeah. But dont worry, his replacement is really good too, and you wont think about the change once you've watched the first 2 eps of spiral labyrinth. He's done a good job.

Well for me it's just because of Kircheis. :D

Wow Linz can actually sing, should I expect Blumhardt next? XD Maybe too late for that. I see Poplan still knocking boots everywhere like he always does even way back here. XD

Anyway I finally finished this one, moving on to the Spiral Labyrinth... (hmm that actually both makes sense and also weird even when taken out of context). LOL

Great ending, could have done without the singing :P

For the arcs I'd say:

Valley of White Silver 9/10
Mornings Dream 7/10
Disgrace 7/10
Billion Stars 10/10

It was a good prequel. In spite of the middle arcs being shaky story-wise, they introduced a whole new depth to Kircheis and Reinhard's characters. It was wonderful getting to know different apsects of these characters I've come to love. It served to make me love them more.

Oh, and as cool as I think the Rosenritters are,

The last arch was great. It was truly like I was watching an extension of LoGH, and was very much worth it.

It was excellent 9/10. But I don't see why I shouldn't have watched this before watching 'My conquest' and the main series. just because it came out later? that's not a good reason, It's not like it had any spoilers for the main series or anything like that.
Well whatever.
They weren't spoilers, rather the fact it highlighted characters like Bittenfeld or Kesler. Because of this it would make more sense for most who had seen the main series and get an "aha" moment when seeing one of these figures, instead of probably never making the connection to people like Ovleser or w/e his name was, once he appears in the main series.

Not alot of people liked the first half but I enjoyed it despite the rather mediocre mystery arcs just because we get to see Kircheis and Reinhard's interaction outside of the fleet battles.

Yang made me tear up a bit in this episode. At this early point in his career he's lamenting the fact that he doesn't have enough power to prevent pointless death, while in his final moments his greatest regret is all the death for which he was responsible. The guy can't win, such a tragedy.

Great OVA overall. The sidestories were enjoyable and it had so many awesome character moments. Must watch for fans of the series.

A Hundred Billion Stars, a Hundred Billion Lights chapter 12 (episode 20 in some orders).

When the alliance has an upstart good-for-nothing: We'll implement your plan but not properly, or you'll have to pretend it wasn't your plan and not get credit for it.

When the empire has an upstart good-for-nothing: Do it yourself.

Unfortunately for both sides, nothing really came of it. No happiness for both unrecognised genius commanders.
Yang wish he had more power to implement his plans and prevent unnecessary deaths.
Even though Reinhard allowed the Empire to have far less losses than the Alliance, the Empire's like "just under 400,000 but not 400,000, so we're going to initiate the attack next time".

Once a again a superb conclusion to an arc, but more importantly this Gaiden as a whole.

Singing scene speaks for itself and shows really great bond and shared moment ny the alliance.

If only Yang himself was there to save lives instead of seeing the many losses and suffers and being powerless
