THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I've never though I would enjoy a compilation movie so much, it was great. Definitely cleared up a lot of things I couldn't connect in the original series. And of course it was awsome to see Char and Amuro in modern animation. I'm glad they redid Amuro's entrance at the end, with the epic planecrash and his reunion with Char. That was first class. |

GOD, is the animation hop jarring and awkward as all hell. Still a great movie though. Completely and utterly NOT for someone who hasn't seen Zeta. |

v good - would have been a lot better if it was 2.5 hours long though - you could almost feel the editing, 'ok we've only got 3 minutes for this scene - chop, chop, CHOP!' |

MrHatandClogs said: Surprisingly awesome for a compilation, though you would be completely lost if you hadn't watch the series first. This wasn't made for newcomers in mind. Remember that this was released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the franchise. MrHatandClogs said: The new animation, is top-notch! I just wish they would've redone the whole thing. But, it was cool to see the comparison between the two as well. The movie was a huge improvement over the TV series. They fixed a lot of issues that plagued the TV series and made the whole thing actually enjoyable. But again, this is NOT a substitute for the TV series, so don't watch this if you haven't watched the original episodes. |

Although overall the film was good, I wish that Sunrise I had just reanimated the entire thing. The switching between the older footage and newer footage was painful. It would have probably been even more interesting if this were a direct remake of the television series instead of a complication movie series. |

The last battle looked freaking amazing :D Only thing that bugged me were a few scenes missing here and there but besides that it was a pretty great movie. On to the next one! |

The switch between the new and the old animation didn't bother me. I wish they would just reanimate the entire thing. I was a bit confused at the beginning. There were so many new characters and I couldn't tell who was fighting who. Luckily by the midway point I figured it out. I'm going to have to re-watch this later on. |

Less slaps and punches, less battles, no awkward dialog: a big improvement on the 14 first episodes I just watched ! Of course they could have edited out less material: we don't know how they get the mini MS, no introduction of Mr.Lee (who felt kind of important in the show)... by giving it more time but I suppose a 2h-2h30 movie couldn't be screened in the 2000s. Some things who bothered me: - Hayato and Kai's opinion about Char was modified (no mention about his ability to become a good leader for the Earth ie.), - some little things become illogical: new suits pop out of nowhere, colour change of the first one never mentioned... - the cuts made Camille a lot less antipathetic but because of it he also seems to stagnate. A few more scenes from his beginnings as a hot-blooded angry teenager would have made him more interesting, - the instants where Amuro and Char recognize instinctively each other's presence were not remade. Some of Camille's powers scenes were ´lso removed. This tends to diminish the Newtype abilities of everyone. - while the difference in rendition of Yasuhiko's style didn't bother me at all, the shifts between cellulos and PC animation are quite ugly because of the paint colours. (And because in my eyes computerized animation looks very flat compared to old hand-drawn cellulos manually animated.) Again, the disappearance of all those terrible lines and overused "punishments" from the TV series, who made it somewhat ridiculous, more than make up for the lost bits. Enjoyment: 5/5 Score: 7.5+/10 Only 7 as a movie, but more as a better rendition of the episodes it recapitulates.(wasn't that the goal of this first movie? ^^) |

Well, that was surprisingly good. I enjoyed it a lot. Switching between old and new worked surprisingly well too. I thought it would bother me but it didn't. New animation was amazing, battles looked great. Especially the last one. Char's and Amuro's reunion was just as great as in the original. |

I agree however I thing this deserved an English audio translation to accompany it. The Epic reunion at the end really shows why the gundam franchise is loved by so many fans. |

The first half of Zeta -before Amuro meeting with Char- is average but this movie omitted a lot of important details and for some reason it has a duration of 1 hr. and 34 min. unlike +2 hr. like the first 3 movies from the original Gundam. 30 min. more and the pacing could be much better. The pacing is too fast to the point that I found several scenes incomprehensible. Finally, I don't like the sudden switch between old and new scenes, it took me out of the immersion. Some notable differences: -Emma treason build up was extremely rushed, so much that her character was ruined in the movie. -The Colony 30 Incident was shown in a video to Emma by Reccoa. -Kamille found Haro mixed in with the supplies. -Since the Colony 30 Incident episode was replaced by a video, Lila dies in the AEUG's Jaburo Drop rather than beforehand. And of course the new scenes replace and change the episodes that were not shown from the anime. 4/10 for the movie. |

The new scenes almost all improved on the original, save for the ones that weird way they skipped over things like the journey through Colony 30 |

Either I forgot how much I enjoyed the start of Zeta series, or this movie was just so much better. For a compilation movie it was good regardless. |

I will give points to Zeta Gundam for trying to do something differently here, though the net results are not all that even across different departments. If you are new to the series or even revisiting after some time, prepare a notebook for all the jargons, names and factions, otherwise it's really easy to lose track of everything going on (not to mention the political intrigue and dramatic nuances this Zeta Gundam is famous for). |
