I'm referring to this:

"After graduating from high school, Natsuko Hirose starts her career as an animator. Her talent quickly flourishes, and she makes her debut as a director in no time. Her first anime becomes a massive hit, sparking a social phenomenon and earning her recognition as an up-and-coming genius director. Her next project is set to be a romantic comedy movie themed around first love! However, having never been in love herself, Natsuko struggles to understand the concept of first love, and as a result, she’s unable to create the storyboard, causing the movie production to come to a standstill."

(No, it's not the current synopsis up on MAL representing the anime - at least, not any longer). It's still the default up on various other anime database-related websites on the series' page, including on sites like Kitsu and AniDB.

But the point is that it says absolutely nothing - not word one - about the series being a form of isekai and that situation and setting being the overwhelming focus. Was it a bait-and-switch type marketing ploy?

It was probably meant to be a marketing ploy.

this was probably the initial write-up of what they wanted zenshu to be about then had to find creative ways about it along the way then lost track that the premise doesn't reflect the overall anime. probably best for viewers to make their own synopsis once the anime is done.

Even if it was a marketing reason, I don't see how people would react negatively to the idea of a "MAPPA original isekai." Isekai is still massively popular. Even if they hide the fact that it's an isekai, once the anime airs, people will find out the truth, so what's the point?

Also, I don't think people would react that much more positively to a drama anime about an animator... I personally find the concept interesting, but I fully understand it doesn't really have "mass appeal."

The weird thing is the teaser PV that came out with the initial announcement already had clips from the fantasy-anime-within-the-anime.

If the direction of the project was already changed by the time of the announcement, why didn't MAPPA update the synopsis?

How is it misleading? She is still struggling with the storyboard by being trapped in another world fighting monsters. It is at a standstill because she can't get back to her job.

It was created to mislead you. 🧐

Malicious, thought provoking and very serious -> for you

Mundane, irrelevant and not worth a 250 word Text, to the public -> for everyone else

...the fact that this is indeed an Isekai is also mentioned on the official MaL-Page for the Show.

So...I don't know what confused/surprised you so much xD

The Isekai tag was added very recently then. I remember that when the show was announced, it wasn't there.

We are all very used to synopsis spoiling the entirety of the first few episodes so I'm glad they didn't do that for once. It was a pleasent surprise for me to find out this was an Isekai in episode 1. It felt like a proper plot twist, as it should be IMO.

Now I'm quite honored, I must say, that this thread topic was deemed worthy of receiving the classic and signature Merve sarcastic and dismissive reply. It almost feels like an unofficial MAL badge or unlocking a secret level in one of those strategy puzzle games.

From what I've observed in other threads, it usually ignites a fiery back and forth exchange where the OP feels compelled to defend their query and position like their life depends on it in an old school miniature internet flame war, which I don't feel so inclined to here, but honored all the same.

"Bait and switch" assumes that the advertised product (a workplace anime) is better than what is actually offered (an isekai). My guess is that they genuinely thought the opposite, I mean that finding out that this isn't a "boring and grounded workplace anime" but an "exciting action fantasy isekai" is supposed to be a pleasant surprise... and I'm sure it is for many isekai enjoyers.

I initially skipped this show because I don't usually like office-based shows, but I do like isekai (yes, usually even the dumb isekai). I gave it a chance only after I heard it was actually an isekai (and people were saying it was good). So in my view, concealing the premise was dumb.

I'm sure there were people with opposite tastes as well, who would have loved an office show but hate isekai, and those would feel let down and it being a bait & switch.

It had "fantasy, action, and isekai" at the top where they show genre. If you didn’t realize what this anime was leading into you’re probably retarded

I think if anyone feels the need to "defend" or "position" themselves...that's pretty much on them. I don't mind^^

It has very little to do with me, actually^^
Im just speaking my mind.

If you're feeling dismissed, by me giving my 2 Cents....oh, well ^^ you'll get over it, Im sure

I know - I'm not sure how exactly to phrase this in a way which doesn't sound sarcastic or insincere (especially considering the context), but I actually enjoy your comments, even when they are or could be perceived/interpreted as rude or directed at me. Genuinely.

Anyway, that is all.

The written synopsis is misleading however, the third trailer spells out the premise very well. I don't know. Do with that what you will.
